Is it just me or are the lakers during this era misunderstood. All we hear about is how the Lakers were a dynasty of this era because they won 3 les in a row. Does anyone forget they lost in 99 03 and 04? Therefore Kobe/Shaq won 3 les in 6 years. They were just as much as a dynasty as the Spurs are right now.

It's almost hard to fathom...winning 3 in a row and as I recall each year we were the favourites but there were still great teams. The portland team and Sac teams were stacked. Also, the spurs were great as well. It took a lot of luck to win and health was on our side, especially to both Kobe and Shaq when it mattered.

They weren't a dynasty, they were starting a dynasty - unfortunately Shaq got fat and lazy from '03 on (except for the first year in Miami, when he got back in shape).

There are only 2 true NBA dynasties: '90s Bulls (6 rings in 8 years) & '50s -'60s Celtics (11 rings in 13 years)

'80s Lakers (5 rings in 9 years) and current Spurs (4 rings in 9 years) are the next best thing.

Trying winning back-to-backs 1st before you criticize. And 4 Finals appearances in 5 years is damn impressive no matter how you look at it.

I remember headlines when we were playing against the Blazers....

    "Too Deep vs Two Deep"

Classic, but the blazers were indeed stacked.
    Sabonis
    Pippen
    Steve Smith
    Rasheed
    Detlef
Jermaine Oneal (granted didn't play too much)

Kobe pulled the plug on it after a 2-year le drought. WTF? Imagine if Magic broke the team up after they blew the Finals to Boston in 84 after being swept by Philly in 83.

This is just about the stupidest and gayest thread ever. Hey er, try repeating before you go and diss a threepeat.

That's almost as impressive as the speed with which "Dirk is weak, inferior and pathetic, like women are" posts show up in Mavs-related threads.

Lakers could have had five or six rings by now if they didn't implode.

Not really. Shaq declined horribly fast and they had no bench. If Buss payed Shaq what he wanted (30 million) it would have been virtually impossible to fix their depth issues.

It all worked out for the best. The current squad will be le contenders for the next 5+ years.

This is what everyone says, but always seem to forget that they lost to SA...almost swept by detroit. That team IMO, had to break up...they wernt improving because of the salaries and all the other teams were gettign better. I dont think they were gonna win another le after the 3 peat.
