    Curious...

Do you guys generally follow the Dallas Cowboys or now the Texans?

    Do the Mavs affect this?

I have loosely adopted the Texans as my AFC team but I don't follow them even remotely as close as the Cowboys.

I am just curious because there was a lot of discussion about this when the Texans came on the scene on where the fans would go.

I think it was a lot more split during the Oilers days, with the majority of football fans being Cowboys fans. Now, it seems like Cowboys haters and ex-Oiler fans are now Texans fans, and there's quite a few of them. I also don't think people associate the Cowboys with the Mavs, simply because people here have been Cowboys fans long before the Mavs had any fans at all.

Simply put, you couldn't find a table ANYWHERE in town when they play on a primetime game, especially an NFL Network game.

I grew up in San Antonio, and followed the Cowboys. I think most people in SA followed the Cowboys over the Oilers. I would think the same is pretty much true today with Cowboys v. Texans.

I know you said SA residents, but live in Austin but grew up in the RGV. Growing up was a Oilers fan and somewhat Cowboys fan because grew up watching them because of my dad. When I was old enough to realize who to root for I was a Oiler. Don't care much for the cowboys, but follow them to a certain extent. I was forced to find a new team and respected the Bucs def 2 years before they won a championship on the team that Dungy built. Texans fan now and finally have a team after the oilers left. So I have never tasted NFL championship victory with a team I could call my own. Hard to find fellow Texans fans here although there is a Austin Texans Fan Club chapter, but Austin is either Cowboys fans, or VY ans gobblers.

I was born, raised and lived in SA for 35 years....am I qualified to comment?

For me, as a diehard Cowboys fan, I view the Texans as I did the Oilers....I want them to win, unless they are playing Dallas.

And no, the Mavs do not affect that for me. IMO, its a team thing, not a city thing.

I still wear my Oilers jacket.

And tell people they have won as many playoff games as the Cowboys the last ten years.

Born and raised in the RGV, living in San Antonio now . . . have always been, will always be, a Cowboys fan.

I feel the same way about the Texans as I felt about the Oilers, I don't give a crap about them.

I was a Cowboys fan before I lived in San Antonio or Dallas. I hated the Oilers since the mid 80s when I started following the Browns.

I am a fan of the Cowboys. I was never a fan of the Oilers nor am I a fan of the Texans now. I do want to see if Kubiak can make them successful because I always thought he would make a decent head coach. This will be the year I think to see if he can.

Yes. What was especially galling about that, is during that one year, there was a small bonus circle in the end zone where a touchdown was worth 15 points rather than the usual 6, and Renfro was standing in the bonus circle. That is why Houston fans cry foul about one lost touchdown in a game the Oilers lost by 14.

Family is from Denver, so I am a diehard Broncos fan. The fact that I grow up in Cowboys country has caused a very strong hatred for all things Cowboys. Weird.

I can't be soured on Dallas....I met my wife there. After she met me, she decided to enjoy championship basketball and become a Spurs fan.

if you get away from that uppity, snobby, 30k credit card millionaire infested, pretentious Uptown area, you will find that the rest of the people in Dallas are no different from other Texans.

I don't care about the Texans at all. Maybe if they were on TV every week (it's pathetic they aren't on reliably this close to home) I would, but I still cheer for the ans in the AFC, but nothing close to Dallas.

grew up in SA and didn't really start following football till the age when NFL Sunday ticket started up due to just being a hardcore basketball and baseball fan.

I'd say I'm a Texans and rams fan due to family being in St Louis and following them but following the Texans due to them being closer to home.

I pretty much have co favorite teams.

Born and raised in the RGV, living in San Antonio now . . .
Where you from down there? I was born in Harlingen and my family moved to SA before I could walk.

To answer the question I grew up in San Antonio and became a Colts fan my freshman year in highschool by virtue of a school trip to Indianapolis in which I hung out at the mall the whole time and was converted to Coltism by some nice fellows wearing Marvin Harrison and Edge James jerseys. Prior to that, I didn't really care about any team, but I hated the Cowboys because of my experiences with a drunk stepfather who was Cowboys Crazy. My dad is a lifetime Dolphins fan and I got a new Marino jersey every year for Christmas from my grandma until I was like 14. Believe it or not I think the year I stopped getting the Marinos was the year I became a Colts fan.

But yeah, I'm from SA and I hate both of those teams. The Boys cuz of my ex-stepdad...and I don't really hate the Texans much since they're Indy's for life, but when they beat us by a flippin' FG and celebrated like they won 10 Super Bowls all at the same time, yeah that was pretty gay. At least we won it all that year.
