BREAKING: MI Caucus Likely, Says DNC Rules Committee Member

A member of the DNC's Rules And Bylaws Committee--the committee that stripped Florida and Michigan of its delegates for moving their primaries before February 5th--told me that Michigan plans to get out of its uncounted delegate problem by announcing a new caucus in the next few days.

"They want to play. They know how to do caucuses," the DNC source said. "That was their plan all along, before they got cute with the primary."

Michigan Democrats had originally planned on caucuses after the legally permissible Feb. 5 date, but then went along with top elected Democrats, including Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who pushed for an early primary.

Hillary Clinton won that Jan. 15 primary, but was the only major candidate on the ballot. Barack Obama and John Edwards had removed their names, although Obama supporters in the state urged voters to choose “uncommitted” over Clinton. Forty percent of the voters that day did just that, compared to 55 percent who voted for

Hillary's OH victory speech said she won FL, and of course, she claims to have won MI being unopposed.

Slate's Delegate Caculator says she has to run the table, win ALL remaining the primaries AND by 20% points to get the nomination. Otherwise, she loses on delegates and popular vote, so can't appeal to superd's to overthrow the popular vote. The superd's say they won't overthrow.

Anybody found somebody who shows in numerical detail how Hillary could possibly win?

Hillary's gameplan is to last until the convention and then make it a brokered convention where she can get delegates behind closed doors and cut deals with them

Once again, primaries aren't the general election and no one is choosing electors; they're choosing nominating delegates for their own partys' conventions.

They can do that however they please. And, I say let the Democrats rip themselves apart over this issue. It's entertaining and healthy for the nation.

Our moral and intellectual superiors at the DNC decided in a fit of hubris to strip Michigan and Florida of their rights to hold a presidential primary whenever their legislatures felt like it.

To protect Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina – as well as to throw a bone to Harry Reid’s state of Nevada, the Democratic Party decided to strip of its delegates any of the other states that dared to have a primary in January.

Michigan and Florida flipped the DNC off.

The DNC made good its threat.

Now the DNC is crawling back to have the voters of Michigan and Florida bail the DNC out of this mess it made of its own nominating process.

Good gosh, Dr. Howard Dean is saying, we cannot have the presidential nominating convention, gulp, actually nominate a president.

Well, Dean is not really crawling. He’s still pretending to be right, according to AP.

The two state parties will have to find the funds to pay for new contests without help from the national party, Dean said.

“We can’t afford to do that. That’s not our problem. We need our money to win the presidential race,” he said.

Good luck winning that race when the party is divided in August.

Dr. Dean sure made a mess of this. The DNC had a Woody Hayes moment when it voted to tell the voters: “Go to , Michigan.”

The Ohio State coach had a reason to hate Michigan.

But the Democrats?

All Michigan wanted to do was hold its presidential primary on Jan. 15 while such things are relevant. But the party bureaucrats had it in their head that no one can hold a primary before Groundhog’s Day — except Iowa (a caucus), New Hampshire and South Carolina.

With 9 million people, Michigan has more people than those 3 states combined.

For once, I'd like to see the Republicans capitalize on a DNC idiocy. They should welcome these stripped delegates into their convention.

My gut tells me Hillary is going to end up winning the nomination. She has the experience to get her way and Obama has stumbled and is going negative which is not his style and it will back fire.

Considering many, including the entire Clinton Campaign team, thought she had it in the bag, I really don't consider it a comeback.

I think Florida is broke, too, but the states wouldn't have to pay for caucuses.

Actually, it was very clear when MI and FL voted that the delegates would not be based on the votes. Everyone who was paying attention knew that. Part of what that means is that the results are suspect because many people stayed home because they did not think their vote would count.

Yeah, I don't see a way for her to win without alienating half of the party. Even if Obama opts to be the good soldier (which I have no doubt he would do) and accept it for the 'good of the party' I think a lot of his supporters would find themselves unable to support her in the general election.

I love to see the possibilities myself. This is an eye-opener regarding the party that the mainstream voter has a hard time missing if it unfolds.

If I were ruling on such a case with what I believe are the facts, I would say the states rights were suppressed, the only fair way is to have a new vote, and the DNC must pay for it.

Plans for a mail-only redo of the Democratic primary in Florida are mostly dead, a key advocate of the idea said Friday.

While there is a growing push for Florida Democrats to hold a new election between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton,, there is no funding for the idea and even if there were, there would not be enough time to pull it off.

"I think it's pretty much dead," said Rep. Keith Fitzgerald, D-Sarasota, who has been one of the Legislature's biggest proponents of holding elections via mail.
