When asked what he thought of Stackhouse's cheap shot on Manu, Avery Johnson said, "When you play a guy like Ginobili, you have to be man. He was a man."
Another of many stupid statements by Avery Johnson. So in Avery's world it is okay to cheap shot a player, continue the action after Manu was knocked down and then get tech'd? He is clearly proving he is one of the worst coaches in the league not to mention plain stupid. And to think we retired that little MOFO's jersey.

This is why Avery Johnson should NEVER, EVER be a coach on the Spurs bench, assistant or otherwise.
It's not just Avery. It's the whole Mavs team.

I think it starts from the top down. I think Cuban's stupidity infiltrates the entire Mavs organization. Avery is just a mentally weak coach and is susceptible to Cuban's idiocy. As far I can remember, Nellie obviously wasn't. I think Cuban will find himself selling the team after he fires the next coach after Avery and can't turn the team around to championship-level basketball again (two or three more years tops). He just interferes too much into the court decision-making aspects of the team.
Avery needs some time as an assistant somewhere to learn how to more mentally tough and how to better interact with players. But I think he has shown flashes of what it takes to be a good coach, he just needs more training.

Avery was right....to a point. You do have to be a man to play against Ginobili....problem is when Avery said "man" Stackhouse thought he said "punk "
