Sergio would be an INCREDIBLE fit with the Spurs... dunno if pritchard will be giving up a potential Blazer killer to us though.. he may see his franchise unseating us in years to come...
The Donnie Walsh news has me thinking of the coming Knicks shake up.
The Spurs might have an opportunity to get something for nothing with their trade exception. Given the cap situation, this could be a big play. Although, it's doubtful that they'll actually be able to use it.
There are at least three players I'm hopeful Buford will make a phone call about.
The first is Renaldo Balkman. Wilson Chandler has a higher ceiling and is playing pretty well given the team he is on and the fact that he's a raw rookie. Is there a place for Balkman on the future Knicks team. I'm not sure. I was at a recent Knicks-Blazers game and got in early with baseline seats. Very few players were working out with coaches, but Balkman was one of them. He spent about 40 minutes with a shooting coach and was consistently knocking down corner threes and elbow jumpers. During the game he played very respectable defense on LaMarcus Aldridge, but, Zeke Thomas, for reasons unknown to rational thinking, opted for David Lee. Lee is a good, high energy rebounder, but he's a defensive black hole. McMillian ran several plays right at Lee. Balkman held Aldridge in check, Lee sent him to the line.
The second player is Javaris Crittenton . It's hard to imagine the Griz giving up a recent draft pick for a trade exception, but they're not playing by the same rules as everyone else right now. They're loaded at pg with Lowry and Conley and have an owner who is recklessly shedding cap to better market the franchise. I'm not sure if Crittenton is an NBA player, but for a trade exception he would, at worst, give the Spurs a quality Toros assignment player to develop. His salary is low, Barry could play some point next year, blah, blah. Low risk, high reward.
The third player is also in a wild card roster situtation. Segio Rodriguez. The Blazers want an elite point, but until they get one seemed determined to play Blake and Jack. They're carefully managing payroll and need to open up roster spots for guys like Rudy Fernandez. Rodriguez could bring a draft pick, but Portland is overwhelmed with draft picks and would like to move one or two. Maybe Pritchard will find himself in a bind.
Feeback? Suggestions?

dumb it down for me. How does the trade exception work and how does it land us one of those players?
Since the Spurs traded Beno for no return salary, they technically completed a non-simultaneous trade. It means they can use the money that would be Beno's salary to obtain a player through either waivers or trade. It cannot be combined with other exceptions or players, but you can use it in pieces.
I'm not sure what Udrih was making though.
