You can Put lipstick on a pig.....

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is speaking this morning to Grover Norquist's weekly powerhouse gathering at Americans for Tax Reform of conservative associations, think tanks, and political operations.

At the semi-secret gatherings which Republican political hopefuls migrate to to get the blessing of not only Norquist but the diverse parts of the nation's conservative money and political machinery, Norquist gives everyone in the room 3 minutes to pitch their cause or issue. I have attended before, but if one wants to attend again -- no one may write or speak about the internal discussion or who attended.

In this case, however, I am not attending -- but a source other than Norquist has leaked this information to The Washington Note and Huffington Post.

As one major Republican operative told me yesterday:

Someone like Condi Rice doesn't go to Grover Norquist's den to talk about the Annapolis Middle East peace process. She's going to secure her future in Republican politics and to position herself as a 'potential' VP candidate on the McCain ticket.
    Washington Post

    ....but it's still a pig...

Rice has been pretty ineffectual as Secretary of State and was downright incompetent as National Security Advisor. McCain would do much better to get a Senator Brownback type as VP to settle the base a bit.

Well, let's say that's true for a moment. She is still more qualified than either ary and B. Hussein Obama for an executive position.

Besides. She is both a woman and black! She was actually raised knowing what it is like to be black too!

Now I don't really believe that's happening, but I like Condi. I would definately vote for McCain rather tha Micky Mouse is she is selected for his VP.

Why would anyone like Condi for anything other than a Russian studies professor? She has been extremely weak in her high level government jobs. Just awful.

No, if McCain wins, it's the states faults who have open primaries. The republicans should have had a conservative to vote for. Not a RINO.

Okay, deciphered, our snake friend probably meant something like this ...

With the nomination process dragging on and likely to go to the convention, the Democrat party is a mess right now. In fact, there is a good chance that the Clintons steal this thing. Another plausible scenario is that Obama squeaks it out, but has nothing of real substance to run on.

Now, this should be a golden opportunity for the GOP. Unfortunately, the GOP candidate has drunk the global-warming kool-aid, and has been out to lunch on immigration and social concerns for years. If they'd only had a solid conservative who would want to (a) secure the border, (b) drill off our coast yesterday, (c) protect traditional marriage, and (d) keep texas low and gummint small (I speak very generally here), then the GOP would win in a landslide.

So ... I'm sure there are quite a few conservatives who would like to redo the nomination.

Once Hitlary is either forced out or drops out, then it becomes a two-dog race....during the 04 election Kerry was killing at this point, so don't read into polls too much for now...

I still find it hard to believe that there are actual oxygen-breathing human beings in this country who feel the federal government should officially legislate that marriage is expressly between a man and woman.

...and then say something stupid like "keep government small".

They shouldn't have to. The accepted definition should not be changed either, but liberals love to change what words mean. We, the (conservative population of the) people do want government to intervene when a majority of us feel it's necessary, as long as it isn't increasing the dependency of government or increasing the tax burden.

...and then say something stupid like "keep government small".
How does it increase the government? What am I missing?

OR... they got a candidate undecided and inevitably disgruntled lefties can vote for when their candidate (Hillary or Obama) doesn't get the nod...

"when a majority of us feel it's necessary"

    us = enough conservatives?

    or

    us = all US citizens?

majority rule is fine, as long as implemented with legal protection for "rights" (which are created, non inalienable) of the non-majority, iow, for everybody.

Your entire philosophy is self-serving bull since you support the government interfering in the private lives of citizens.

    no!!!!!

If McCain wins it is because the Democrats are to ing stupid to stand behind the cadidate that wins the Primaries.

If I have to go by what most of Obama and Hillary's supporters on this board are planning to do after the Democratic Primary is decided, then it is painfully clear how stupid the Democrats have become.

They will give a Republican nominee the Presidency, after 8 years of Bush!!!!!?????

How can they be so ing rer ed?

After 8 years of Bush, no Republican should do better than losing by a landslide . . . and these ers (the Democrats, the liberals or whoever votes Democrat these days) are making a Republican victory very plausible.

CROFLCROFLCROFLCROFL!!!! (in my best pimpo impersonation)

Condi's time in any kind of federal role will be over the day after W. leaves office.

She's been weak and ineffective in her current position and in the culture at the center of the world's front burner problems (Muslims) the only thing they despise more than 'infidels' are women and blacks. In short, she's a bad choice to be anywhere involved in the process in that part of the world.

    Who is "we"? "government interven[tion]?"

    Youre a conservative?!

How does it increase the government? What am I missing?
The fact that our elected federal Congress cant pass legislation to improve education or change existing tax codes, yet will find the time to fit a bill in that does absolutely nothing to improve ANYONE's life. The only thing it does is appease God-fearing hillbillies from the bible belt who think sexualism is a disease.

You, a conservative, want Congress to take time out of their busy schedule of campaigning/fund-raising/concession/palm-greasing to coddle to a stark minority of the country that actually feels a law should be made to outlaw gay marriage?!

    Are you mad?!

Newsflash: Majority, a vast majority of Americans dont give two s about gay marriage.

I feel "moral laws" are an impingement of rights, in all cases.

Keep your ing morals to yourself and your family. Not everyone believes the same things YOU do.
