Has anyone had the misfortune of trying to return anything to Target recently?

I just got married, and we registered at Target. For anyone who's been married with a registry, you get a ton of double and triple gifts. Target won't return ANYthing without a receipt. Doesn't matter if it's on your registry or not, they won't let you exchange anything. If it's an online purchased gift, they don't even send a receipt - they send a shipping receipt, which clearly states "this is not a sales receipt.."

They do allow two non-receipt returns a year, as long as the product is under $20. Even then they give you about it.

Bed, Bath and Beyond, however, will return everything - and even give cash back on gift cards.

Two points I'm trying to make here...

    1) Don't ever sign up for a gift registry at Target

    2) Peter Burns is a

Call Target (regional corporate office) and double check that. At least with baby registries, they rescinded that policy, so that you could return any item on the registry without a gift, because there was such a big, public backlash.

It may be too late now, but I think your store is misinformed - unless they did not extend this courtesy to wedding registries. I had a million babies born in my circle of families and friends so it was big news.

But yes, generally BBB is WAY better for registries because of their liberal return policies and discount coupons. I love BBB.

Of course, there's a reason everything at BBB costs 2x what it does at Target.

And Target gives everyone a gift receipt (sans cost) with everything, so you should also express anger at the ppl who were too lazy to include them with their gifts.

Hopefully a call to the corporate office will help straighten this out, tho.

    I'll look into point #2.

As for point #1, have a garage sale.
    You'll get money.

    Yeah, that's lame.

When I worked at Academy, we would return anything. If it was in our stock, we'd take it back. If you didn't have a receipt, you'd get a store credit. Even if you didn't have a receipt and it was done on credit and you threw a fit, you could usually get a manager to look up the sales report and do a cash refund.

We used to get fully worn and dirty shoes back all the time. Customers would complain "oh, they hurt my feet"

The people who worked Customer Service were so 'lax that one time they returned a $200 Air Mattress, only to find the box filled with doorknobs.

Word to the wise: If you ever buy anything at Academy, save the receipt. I don't care how freaking used it is when you bring it back, if you bring it back with a straight face, they'll refund it.

That was one thing I forgot to mention.

We were in the store yesterday and going at it with the manager about the policy, and he said 'call the Guest Relations, and they can give you an override code for us.'

So, we called, and they asked us for the receipt number.

If I had the f'n receipt, I wouldn't have called you. I would've taken care of it with Acne Zach right here behind the bloody counter.

So, we made the manager get on the phone and talk to guest relations - and then he said 'yeah...we can't do anything without the receipt.'

I've returned stuff at Target WITHOUT my receipt. In fact, I bought something I can't remember what, didn't have the receipt, but I did have my credit card which is what I used to originally pay for the item and they let me return it and credited it to my card instead of giving me a store credit. Also, they let you return anything in whatever shape or form if you DO have the receipt.

That does suck about the registry. And a little weird, since technically they could do the same thing they did with the credit card and just enter your name in the system and find out for sure that someone purchased the item from there. But maybe they'll let you exchange?

1P1, I think this is some new policy they recently started about not taking returns without a receipt.

Chopster--I love ya, but that was waaaaaayyyyy TMI. Now I have to return the damn trimmer I bought because it looks like it had been used

That's what I initially thought too. But then I realized, not everyone buys from the registry or where you're registered so you can still get double stuff....

It is the responsibility of the person buying the item to give them the registry information so that it gets marked off the list.

It is the responsibilty of the person giving the gift to provide you with the gift receipt.

The store has a clearly posted return policy that was there when you chose to register.

Hence why you need proof it was actually bought there.

The items were marked off the registry. I could take the registry in, item marked off, and they still weren't budging on it. As far as giving the receipt to the recipient, sure...but I can't do anything about that.

We just have the misfortune of not associating with all the high end people who shop at Tiffany's for wedding gifts like yourself.

People up at 2am drinking beer at home alone while surfing message boards.

You know, that really high tax bracket.
