    Willis returns to Hawks

    Associated Press

ATLANTA - Kevin Willis, second among all active NBA players in games played, will return to his original team, the Atlanta Hawks, for his 21st season, general manager Billy Knight announced today.

The 42-year-old Willis returns to Atlanta after a ten-year absence.

In eleven years with the Hawks, Willis averaged 14-point-five points and ten rebounds per game. He was the team's first-round pick in 1984 and was an All-Star in the 1991-92 season.

Willis will provide depth at forward and center. Among active players, only Karl Malone has played in more games. Willis spent the last two seasons in San Antonio.

I'll miss Willis as well. I'll never forget the big smile on Kevin's face as he subbed in for D-Rob in the final seconds of Game 6 of the Nets series in 2003. Then the tears coming out of his eyes as he hugged his Detroit neighbor Steve Smith, telling him, "we finally did it, baby," as they won their first ring of their long careers.
