US Evangelist Gives $6 Million to Israel
    By BETH MARLOWE –

JERUSALEM (AP) — American evangelist John Hagee announced donations of $6 million to Israeli causes on Sunday and said that Israel must remain in control of all of Jerusalem.

Hagee, a Christian Zionist who has been in the spotlight lately for endorsing presidential candidate John McCain and criticizing the Catholic Church, brought hundreds of backers on a solidarity trip to Israel.

Hagee and his group, Christians United for Israel, joined keynote speaker Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of Israel's hard-line opposition Likud Party, at a rally in support of Jerusalem remaining united and under Jewish control.

"Turning part or all of Jerusalem over to the Palestinians would be tantamount to turning it over to the Taliban," Hagee told an audience filled with Americans who waved Israeli flags and cheered.

Palestinians claim the eastern part of the city, captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war, as the capital of their future state.

Hagee said his group was giving $6 million to 16 Israeli causes. Recipients include the Magen David Adom rescue service and a conference center in the West Bank Jewish settlement of Ariel.

The fate of Jewish settlements like Ariel is at the heart of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The support of evangelicals for Israel's continued control of the West Bank endears them to Israeli hard-liners but troubles more dovish activists.

McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, distanced himself last month from Hagee following an uproar over the San Antonio megachurch leader's comments on Catholicism.

Hagee has called the Roman Catholic Church "the great " and a "false cult system." He has also suggested that the Catholic church helped shape Adolf Hitler's anti-Semitism.

Hagee has vehemently denied he is anti-Catholic and said his remarks have been mischaracterized.

When did John McCain distance himself from Hagee? I must have missed it.

What a cruise from , being on a ship with Hagee that long....from Texas to Israel.

I had a prominent attorney ask me years ago if I knew why Hagee fund raised so much money for Israel. In my naivete, I said because of his religious beliefs. The attorney schooled me and said it was for Hagee to curry favors (business deals) with the powerful and rich new York Jewish center.

Regardless, all of his book railings do sell him a bunch of books and CD/DVD sets.

"When did John McCain distance himself from Hagee"

he didn't. he also said Parsley is his spiritual guide.

McCain is flip-flopping, grovelling, pandering sonofa . Did he learn ass-kissing the military and in the Hanoi Hilton? He can get away with connecting to these extremist, nutty pastors because they are white, but Rev. Wright is the wrong color.

America likes their presidents dumb, and McCain qualifies.

His speech today on Iraq was bull . He confuses military objectives and honor, like he experienced in VN, with civilian/political objectives.

If he can't quit being a VN vet, and become a US civilian, he shouldn't run the Exec. The Cons ution clearly intended for the military to be under civilian control. McCain's mentality is still enlisted in 1970.

McCain “categorically rejects” Hagee’s anti-Catholic statements

Sen. John McCain / Rev. John HageeNew Orleans, Mar 8, 2008 / 03:25 am (CNA).- Senator John McCain made efforts on Friday to do more than just distance himself from the anti-Catholic teachings of John Hagee by repudiating any comments made by the well known televangelist.

In an interview with the Associated Press the Republican presidential candidate said, "We've had a dignified campaign, and I repudiate any comments that are made, including Pastor Hagee's, if they are anti-Catholic or offensive to Catholics”.
