Any thoughts about signing Turiaf next year, who (i) is in the last year of his contract with the Lakers, (ii) does not have much playing time with Gasol and Bynum, (iii) and seems to be a good defensive presence (great shotblocker) with pretty good hands and a ton of energy

and he is young and I guess he would come fairly cheap

One question is would he fit in the Spurs system (though I've sometimes wondered what this system is over the last few weeks)

This is the first thread I start, so I hope the topic is not considered ludicrous...

Word is Philly wants him too. He will be a restricted FA iirc so LA can match a deal and they have already made it clear they want to bring him back.

But yeah, no shot at a starting job in LA. So if thats his motivation, he likely follows the money elsewhere.

Hard nosed player. If there's room and he's available, I'm sure the FO will look into it.

I wouldn't call the thread ludicrous, just premature.

He's an attractive prospect, has the kind of work ethic that Pop loves so much, and all that. I would question how cheaply he'd really come. Big man contracts, especially ones where you have multiple suitors, can inflate really quickly. He'd be great to have at a reasonable price, but with Ian and Splitter waiting in the wings I won't be crushed if he goes elsewhere.

Doubt we'll have the room. Nice player though -- even if he is French....

I like him a lot too. In fact, I'd take him over a guy like Bonner. Of course, he doesn't have Bonner's shooting range. If he had better range, the Spurs might be interested.

No way can let Ronny go ....his value is doubled by what agreat TEAMMAte he is ..as long as the offers made are within reason we have to keep him. I would trade Walton or Radmonovich if need be to keep Turiaf they are BOTH overpaid but Vlad has started to shoot well this year ...Luke cant stay healthy

He'd fit in with the spurs for sure and probably get more minutes than he would on the Lakers next year.

Isn't it about time the Spurs signed one of Kobe's countrymen (Pietrus or Turiaf)? After all, they did the same for Manu. OK. OK. Before anyone rolls over, I was just joking.

I doubt the Lakers are going to let him walk. Esp given how injury prone Gasol and Bynum have proven to be.

Hahah, never seen that comparison before.

Ronny is an above average big man. He still has foul trouble but if you need 10-15 solid, bruising minutes, he's there.

But more importantly, Turiaf IS THE MAN, the glue guy on the team. Fish keeps the team together on the court. Ronny and Luke are the reasons why the Lakers get along off the court. It's probably the first time since the 90s that the Lakers are a team and alot of the credit goes to Ronny.

You see a resemblance between Venus Williams and Ronny Turiaf?

I would not assume that Tiago is coming next season until that actually happens given recent history.

I like Turiaf (the man and the player) but Spurs don't need an extra young big with Splitter and Mahinmi.

Turiaf is a PF not a C. He is playing C out of necessity since the Lakers have no bigs. When Bynum returns he will backup Gasol at the PF spot and get the same amount of minutes he was getting.

And I hope Ronny will leave Lakers this summer.

First, I don't like to root for a player and to root against his team at the same time.
Second, I think it's the best for Ronny. Lakers frontcourt is really deep and he can get more playing time elsewhere.

I can see your point about rooting for and against the man and the team.

Ronny's an exception...I hope he stays on the Lakers but I'll always be rooting for him and his team as long as they're not going up against the Lakers and Spurs.

He's like a big kid out there with decent skills...that's one guy who's hard to root against.
