Hmmm...8 more games...3 at home, 5 on the road.
The cutoff date to determine the All-Star coaches is February 6th.
I know that this was talked about in a few threads, so I just wanted to clarify.

The coach of each All-Star team is chosen based on the best team records in each Conference, right?
In case of a tie, what is the tie breaker (i.e., head-to-head, conference record, div record, flip coin, etc.)?

Coach Pop said he doesn't want to coach the All-Star game. I would think it would be because of all the prima donnas that don't know the concept of team basketball and he also knows that the All-Star game is looked upon as a showcase for spectacular dunks - not defense!!

If you're going to be negative (and you always are) at least get your facts straight. Who could complain about Spurs league-best 1-loss home record? So I look elsewhere to see patterns in the Spurs losses, to see where/why they have failed, where the rest of season offers room for improvement, where the real "tests" are, in the runup to the playoffs.
(Although the SEA loss @SBC is also grounds for complaining, was a Spurs giveaway to a top (WC) team). Without just that one 2nd qtr of Spurs' disappearance vs SEA, 12 - 29 pts, and the Spurs would be 21-zip @SBC.)
I am fully justified in pointing out, with compete accuracy, that the Spurs suck badly, 1-6, __ON THE ROAD__ against playoff teams. That's a damn negative inidcator. It's the basis of why I call these Spurs soft.

I'm fully enjoying this and all Spurs seasons that I've followed closely. I hate losing badly played games to inferior teams. For sheer pleasure, I much prefer the Spurs playing better teams where both teams play well, no matter who wins.
The 1-6 stat is huge, it's represents 6 of 9 total losses, it indicates a Spurs softness when the going gets tough, ie, 1) on the road, 2) against better teams (esp if they play a little defense). It's a toughness the Spurs will need in the playoffs, and road toughness isn't something that magically appears after April 20. It has to be developed during the season.
The 03 Spurs had it, having the league-beast season road record, IIRC, and then, season road performance blending consistently into playoff performance, closing out the first 3 playoff rounds on the road.

I think the point is, they're not even half way. How good this team is at this juncture compared to teams past, yes even 2003, is fun and scary at the same time. SA usually doesn't even break even against WC playoff teams (overall) until March. As you pointed out, they are not 6-6, but 7-6 so far.It has to be developed during the season.

with ShaQ playing as center in East now, I don't think it would be an easy game for the West. Last year Yao started I think he only had 2 pts(?). Pops has spent time studying ShaQ's moves, he knows how to stop him, he must coach.
All the all star game coach does is manage minutes and select reserves. the only reason i can think of that pop would even want to coach this game is because it would mean his team had the best record in his conference. That and he would have a chance to select Parker and Ginobili.
