damn...i was hoping battier would win it but KG has been great as well. where did u get the story?
Kevin Garnett has been named Defensive Player of the Year for 2007-2008.
KG helped spark an historic win/loss turnaround, anchoring what quickly became one of the league's premier defenses. More information should be available soon, but it was probably a close vote between KG, Marcus Camby and Shane Battier.

The way people praise Gana Diop on this board, I thought he would have been DPOY
Oh well. At least it wasn't Battier or Camby.
This could be viewed as a sympathy award for not receiving the MVP.
KG is a very good defender, but what I think really put him over the top for the award is the fact that he didn't win MVP.
edit: damn rembinboton and his 1 minute earlier post.
Gotta say, the NBA isn't dragging their feet this year announcing awards. After the embarrasment known as the Dirk MVP, I bet the MVP is announced by early next week at the latest so they can make sure the player is still playing when the award is given.
Duncan was 9th.This guys who are voting for this award suck!!!!!!!!

Duncan wasn't great defensively this season.
Duncan had more rebounds and blocks than Garnett and played the post much more than Garnett.
Duncan is still the superior all around defender and one of the best of all time.
Duncan is one of the best defensive players of all time for his career resume of work. This year he did not play great defense. He got lit up routinely by players down low all season long.
KG deserves it. He held opposing starting PF's to a lower FG% than any other PF. Plus the rest of the team played defense when they probably wouldn't have otherwise, solely because KG would have beat the out of them if they didn't.
