Well ive wanted or sort of been interested in one since shortly after highschool. I never did because i dont think there is much worth putting on your body for life, and i didnt ever have much of a reason to.

Since my son was born, i thought of it again, and i think im going to get some sort of Celtic Cross, with his initials and DOB in the art somewhere. I think the back of my calf is where ill get it.

My question is, does anyone know a good artist in town? Does anyone have any suggestions on designs?

    Any suggestions at all?

High quality portrait work is always worth it.

I have my son taking the 9-ball out of the palm of my hand on my left shoulder. I must have taken 30 black and whites to get our hands perfect. I've always loved from my hand to his type work.

Me being the nerd I am, the only tattoo I want is the word "Sinister" on my left forearm.

That's cool. If I weren't so fat, I'd get a Venom symbol on my chest.

With that kind of work I would definately find someone skilled in shading and depth. You want(or I think you want) the design to have some 3 deminsional qualities about it vs. a flat 2D look. Biggest mistake people make is not always in the idea but more in the execution of the work.

Check around various tattoo parlors and ask to see their portfolios. Ask for someone who is good at shading. Make sure that they are up to code with health issues, that they have their own autoclave and that they take new needles out of individual sterilized packets. Many places will let you set an appointment to talk with their artists, but generally want you to be serious by that point. The places I've been (for my own and with others) were happy to let you browse portfolios if they were busy or you just dropped by.

And don't be afraid to explain your concept to the artist, and let them play with it. I had one idea (and drawing) in mind for my ankle band, but the artist didn't like it, and asked if he could play with it. I liked the original piece, but he was ultimately right about what he wanted to do - I needed something bigger than what I'd pictured, and I like the way he did the spacing. If you have a good tattoo artist, they know what they are doing, and can make something spectacular.

I got my Koi Fish half arm sleeve done by Carlos at Dandyland. He is FANTASTIC and I will NEVER go to ANYONE else. I get stopped all of the time by folks who talk about how nice of a job he did.

I think it would look real nice if you had it lettered vertically. That way the "O" will hit right on that bottomless pit belly button of yours!

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm not crazy about tattoos on women. Unless they're small and feminine, I don't like em on wimmin. Call me sexist, I know.

And what's with men inking themselves up like they're on the prison yard? I mean, a couple of tattoos is alright, but what's the point of covering your entire body? I've never gotten it.
