Here, here. I second that motion.![]()
I would give up any Spur not named Tim, Tony, or Manu this summer to get this guy for the SF spot.
The guy can play, and he already knows how to defend.
Here, here. I second that motion.![]()
The one thing I noticed about him was that the two shots I saw him take were LONG twos. Back the up one step, or put the ball on the floor and penetrate.
Too bad the Spurs aren't goping to have much left after Scola.
These threads are funny.
Every time the Spurs play-- someone comes up with a what about <Insert Name> on the Spurs team? Would you trade for <Insert Name> ? If so, who would you trade for?
Oh you would huh?
Well kiss my ass, ingrates.
Simmons hits 87% of his FTs.
Not Spur material.
He's a budding star. I'd love to have him...although I don't know that I'd trade Parker for him.
Anyone else on the squad not named Duncan or Manu? Absolutely.
ZStomp,
I have him on three of my fantasy teams. The kid fills up the stat sheet at both ends. He'd fit in perfectly here in SA - he is an excellent perimeter defender.
Plus, he is shooting right at 50% from the field, pretty crazy for a wing player, not to mention 87% FTs.
Simmons is Bruce Bowen and Devin Brown all rolled up into one player. Actually he reminds me a lot of Sean.
Your are right funny threads, everone wants to trade for a certain player after every game.It is just funny.I wonder who people want to trade in the next 3 games.NASH,PEJA,DA.
He would be the perect roleplayer. Off top he is still in his mid twenties and still has a little bit of room fto improve his game.
he'll get overpaid by a bad team this offseason more than likely.
But, once again, if there is a lockout, who knows what happens.
Simmons is an excellent spot up shooter. One of the better ones in the league right now. If he gets his feet set and is open from mid-range or long range, its money.
Hes a pretty solid defender, and a solid passer (always finds the open man).
He can't create much, but thats why he would be a nice 3 for the Spurs. He could hit open shots, play D, and be ultra efficient overall.
In the beggining of the season he was basically outplaying Maggette.
He wouldn't work on the Spurs. He gets a lot of his points around the basket on post ups and by getting good position on the smaller small forwards. He's a lot more in the Quentin Richardson or even Antawn Jamison mold.
Simmons is NOTHING like Qrich. Qrich jacks up 3pters open or not. Not an efficient scorer at all.
Simmons shoots open jumpers and posts from time to time, but never to the detriment of the team.
He also does not turn the ball over much considering his postion and touches.
I like Simmons because he is a hard worker. In Pop's system, I think he would thrive and improve every season.
That can be overcome through coaching.
I disagree slightly. He gets a lot of his points around the basket
Hes got a nice jump shot, and is pretty athletic.
He would fit great in the small forward slot IMO.
Maybe a trade of Devin Brown, or some combination to get him could happen.
Oh you would huh?
Well kiss my ass, ingrates.
word.
Richardson and Simmons are twins if you take away Richardson's penchant for jacking up too many threes and made Simmons a little more athletic. Look at their other numbers and see that they are similar in rebounds, assists, steals, etc. They are both physical small forwards who thrive at scoring around the basket. Simmons can hit the open J while Richardson thinks he has three-point range.
I know that the Spurs have scouted Simmons a lot in the past. They came to the conclusion that too many of his points come on the inside for him to work on the Spurs, who need their swing players to be threats from the outside.
I don't think Manu has earned that "untradeable" status as of yet....
I think Pop would be strung up if he traded Manu, who is probably the most popular Spur right now.
Maybe they will reconsider Simmons when they see that he is shooting .385 (15-39) this season from downtown, after being only 6-16 in his first three years, combined. Wouldn't someone working to improve a weakness in their game get them another look, and perhaps even be points in their favor with Pop?
I agree, it seems that it would be easier to teach a good shooter to extend his range than to teach Bruce to expand his offensive repertoire.
Not that I'm advocating getting rid of Bruce.
Exactly. Nothing alike in results, especially if your considering both players as Clippers.
Simmons is efficient as a Clipper, and Q was not. Thats a difference. One takes horrible shots, the other does not. Simmons has a good jumper, Q does not.
Aside from SIZE, and ability to post and rebound they are helping their teams in different ways (aside from maybe rebounding).
One has a good jumper and an efficient offensive game, and does not force shots. The other takes bad shots and on days when he is on can score a lot, but needs a lot of shots.
Similiar skill sets but hardly the same in the context of each player as a Clipper. Simmons can actually pass and hit an open jumper with consistency. Q simply takes and makes more shots -- but he needs more shots to be effective in an offense.
Guess our definitions of being 'similiar' differ. They have similiar attributes and strengths, but Q did not know how to use them in the Clippers scheme, Simmons does without forcing.

Simmons is hitting 38% of his threes this year. What about the old Join-the-Spurs-and-your-three-point-shooting-goes-up-ten-points corollary?
