Of course, it is not right to just focus on what the Suns did wrong. San Antonio is a marvelous team that probably played its best game of the season. Van Gundy offered a perfect summary of why the Spurs are the model NBA franchise: "I think that the best trait of the Spurs' organization is that from the owner to the GM to the coach to the best player they are a humble organization. They never think they have it figured out. That is why they stay sharp, that is why they stay urgent and that is why they stay selfless." Early in the game, Jackson noted that the Spurs will not outsmart themselves; they were killing the Suns by using Parker in screen/roll plays, so they kept running that action over and over. At various times, Van Gundy and Jackson both criticized how the Suns defended the play, saying that the Suns' defenders took bad angles, gave up too much ground and needlessly exposed O'Neal by switching instead of fighting their way through the screens.

All of those things are true but how many times have you seen an NBA team score two or three times on a play and then go away from it and start doing something else? That always drives me nuts; if a play works, wear it out unless or until the other team stops it. That sounds simple but the problem that creeps in for some teams is that other players start clamoring to have touches and shot attempts; Jackson made an outstanding point when he said that Duncan did not start demanding to get the ball in the post but instead let Parker run the show and make the decision to either shoot the ball or pass to cutters.

This is what I was afraid of going into halftime with a 14 point lead. I was hoping Pop would find so many things wrong with a seemingly perfect half of basketball and address it at halftime. During the game's closing seconds, you won't see Pop (or any players for that matter) laughing or anything on the sidelines. They realize it was just game 3 of the 1st round and there's still tons of ball to be played

You would've thought it was the Spurs that were down 0-2 given the urgency with which they played.

Thanks Findog. I know it's all you want from the Mavs, to play like they care. The Spurs have their moments where it looks like they don't care but when it matters they always seem to remember how to play the game. As a fan it's a joy to watch. This time of year even the non-fans find it a joy to watch. It's hard not to appreciate the display of team work and class that the Spurs put on when they're at their best.

The Spurs may mail in regular season games but they're money this time of the year.

I don't understand how the Spurs get the boring label either. The Finals against the Cavs was boring because Cleveland wasn't a worthy opponent. And when they played the Pistons, that was a little boring because two defensive-first teams bring that out in each other. But you can't call yourself a basketball fan and not enjoy the way they carved and sliced up Phoenix last night. That was a beautiful display of basketball. If they continue to bring that, it doesn't matter if we beat the Hornets or not, we're not getting past you guys.

Thanks for the classy post, Findog.
Oh, that's not me with the pornstache, I just think he's right on about the differences between Phoenix and San Antonio. You can pretty much juxtapose Duncan/Amare, Pop/D'Antoni.

I think this year they continue to bring it. This is Duncan's best chance to repeat. He's healthy and motivated, Parker is playing out of his mind and all Manu needs to do is be 100% and there will be no stopping them. This is a dangerous Spurs team. Last night we saw the team that can beat Boston in a 7 game series.

Last night was a beautiful display of basketball, the way it should be played. Unfortunately, all people want to see is flashy play and slam dunks and that's what they think good basketball is. But it is all the little things, the fundamentals and the teamwork that really makes good basketball. And if you like that kind of stuff, then the Spurs are never boring.

I really like how this team hasn't said one derogatory thing about the Suns, how this team didn't get y after wiping the floor with the Suns. Part of me wants them to because I hate the Suns and how much they talked pre-series and even after Games 1 & 2, but they are doing the right thing. At least people can't hate them because they are y assholes.

Watching the Suns get their just desserts is awesome. That's Amare!
