game 1: we took their hearts
game 2: we just took them
game 3: we took their hopes
game 4: we toyed with them
game 5: we took their lives
Very simply, this series was an archetype of a victorious Spurs playoff series. We had:
1. a game won with incredible events - game 1.
2. two games won from behind with guts and 4th quarter execution - game 2, 5
3. a blowout - game 3.
4. a blowout against us - game 4.
It may just be just my instinct, but this series seems to mirror the way the Spurs often win in the playoffs. Occasionally, we win in a series full of close games (2007 Finals, 2007 1st round vs Nuggets, 2003 1st round vs Suns), or we win going away from the opposition (2007 vs Jazz), but it seems like Spurs series wins often follow a similar pattern as above...
...or maybe I'm just happy and hallucinating!![]()

My heart can not take any more of these 4th quarter miracles...hopefully SA will win 4 games with a lot more ease.

I happen to love close, exciting finishes. Makes the victory even more worthwhile.
But Ruffy, I think you might be on to something. I take it this is the subject of your master's thesis? More interesting than mine, I assure you.
What's your thesis about, Don?
If I had the time and inclination I think I could chart at least 6 similar series during the last 4 championships, although 1999 was pretty much ownage from start to finish.![]()
