MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) -- A psychologist was sentenced to 33 years in prison Friday for conspiring to murder the stepfather of Boston Celtics star Ray Allen.

Ernest Garlington was convicted in November in a murder-for-hire plot against fellow psychologist Derek Hopson. Once married to Garlington's wife, Hopson is now married to Flora Allen-Hopson, mother of the Celtics guard.

Hopson wasn't injured when shots were fired at him in 2003 outside the Middletown clinic where he worked and had been beaten with a golf club less than a year earlier.

Garlington was sentenced in Middlesex Superior Court.

Ray Allen was in Atlanta for Game 6 of the first-round playoff series between the Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks.

"I don't want to talk about that," Allen said before the game.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers doesn't believe the case has been a distraction for his star guard.

"I'm not worried about that," Rivers said. "There's so many stories out there."
