Steve Francis exercises contract option
HOUSTON (TICKER) —Houston Rockets guard Steve Francis elected to exercise the option on the final year of his current contract, the team announced Wednesday.
The Rockets did not disclose financial terms of the contract. But Francis made just over $2.4 million last season, a disappointing campaign shortened by injuries.
Francis, 31, averaged 5.5 points and 3.0 assists in just 10 games before undergoing season-ending right knee surgery in February.
It was a lackluster return to Houston for Francis, who spent the first five seasons of his career with the Rockets - earning the nickname “Stevie Franchise” as the team’s star player.
Francis had spent the previous three-plus seasons with four different teams. However, he did not play a game for the Portland Trail Blazers, who bought him out of his $30 million contract last summer - allowing for his return to the Rockets.
The 6-3 Francis was considered one of the NBA’s top all-around point guards during his first five-year stint with Houston and has averaged 18.1 points, 6.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds in parts of nine seasons with the Rockets, New York Knicks and Orlando Magic.
But the high-flying Francis has been a different player since originally suffering the knee injury with the Knicks during the 2005-06 season.
maybe the franchise and starbury can team up with coach d'antoni and run the out of the italian league.
I heard that he wants to go back to Canada
He's gonna be back. Then we will have a nucleus of Franchise, T-Mac, and Yao. Get ready es!
if you consider Franchise as one of your core players, then your teams is in alot of terrible. Luckly for the Rox's and their fans, the Coach and GM dont think like you. Stevie is washed up and you should just retire
Cuttino Mobley is pissssssssssssssed. They might break up.
i like the 20 year old college pick. stevie franchise now needs viagra and cialis to get up that high.
how's your big 3 playing against N.O., Mr. lmao![]()
If he can do this with a torn quadriceps tendon in his right knee, what the do you think he will do after he recovers from his recent surgery to repair this

besides, anything we can get from him is gravy anyway.....low $ risk, potential big reward.....

who cares what anyone thinks, all they need is to stay healthy and get a 3rd scorer, backup 5
78 points.
that's how they're doing.
if he had subs uted dikembe mutombo for franchise it would be less comedic.
Um, how the is your team playing against New Orleans, even before tonight?
@ Roxfan. Francis sucked with two healthy legs.
Is he able to recover back to normal self after he heal from surgery? If so this Rocket team look good.
PG Francis/Alston/Brooks
SG McGrady/draft pick/Jackson
SF Battier/free agent/Novak
PF Scola/Landry/Hayes
C Yao/Mutombo
They justs needs good draft pick replace crap player Luther Head and good free agent replace Mike Harris. They also need center but maybe not able to one yet. If Francis is recovers team is capable of fight for champions.
If he healthy player he is better than Brooks, Head, Alston also than crap players of Spur like Vaughn and Stoudamire.
alston outplayed him even when he was healthy.
Rocket fan site say he have play with injury for last 2 years. How Alston outplay him when healthy then?
