The post-season opened up with all the talk about flopping, and how the Spurs are the worst in the league, etc. In the last 3 games of Round 1, the Spurs weren't the ones attempting to draw cheap foul calls by flopping.
Before this series, there was really a lot of smack being talked about the Spurs flopping. And the New Orleans fans all insisted that the Hornets players are all much too tough to ever have to resort to that sort of thing. But it hasn't turned out that way, has it?
All of the Hornets big guns have proven that they are more than willing to lay down, if they think it will get them an easy whistle. So much for being too tough. I think the sports commentators, as well as the loud-mouthed fans from other teams should take note: the Hornets have been the ones flying around and begging the refs for cheap fouls.
Ditto for whining to the refs constantly... the Hornets have proved that they are more than a match for any team in the league in that department. Even with all the friendly whistles they have gotten so far, they come up crying like babies every time one doesn't go their way.
For a stretch during the game, we actually counted flop attempts and whining-after-fouls. The Hornets are up 2-1 in games, but they are way ahead in both the flopping and whining departments. If they are whining this much now, imagine what will happen if the calls actually start swinging a little bit in the Spurs' favor. The Hornets will absolutely implode.
Either way, I think they have ridden the media hype about as far as it will take them. Because even Hornets' fans will have to admit that their team can flop with the best.
