Pit bulls attack, critically injure 3-year-old in Fort Worth
By SUSAN TALLANTSpecial to the Star-Telegram
FORT WORTH -- A 3-year-old girl was in critical condition at Cook Children's Medical Center after being attacked by two pit bull terriers Wednesday night.
Police responded to the call shortly before 8 p.m. at a mobile home park in the 5000 block of N. DeSoto Court, Lt. Jimmy McCarthy said. The child's aunt, who was also injured, was taken to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, McCarthy said. Police declined to identify the woman.
The girl does not live where the attack took place, but was in the care of her aunt at the time, said Lynn Alexander, a neighbor at the Redwood Estates Mobile Home Park in southeast Fort Worth.
"This is unbelievable," said Leslie Cranston, a neighbor who lives across the street. "I walk my dog every day and never knew they even had dogs in that house."
The mobile home park manager said residents are required to sign a contract when they move in, and the rules are clear.
"They state, 'No pit bulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, chows or other dangerous breeds,'" said Walter Winters, manager. "If we would have known, I would have given them a notice to get rid of the dogs or vacate the property."
The dogs were seized by the city's animal control department.
The Fort Worth Crimes Against Children Unit is investigating the incident
Pit bull thread!
Pit bulls are no more dangerous than any other breed. , pit bulls aren't even an actual dog breed. I'm not sure an actual pit bull even exists. My guess is that the parents of this child killed their own baby and then tried to pin the blame on this innocent pit......errrr......ugly ass dog.
The fault in this, and every other pit bull related death, is not the fault of the dog owner, it's the fault of the parents of the now-dead child for believing their little person could actually walk around without fear of being mangled by someone's 'pet'. I say shame on them. They should live in fear like everyone else and respect the rights of citizens who choose to needlessly put others at risk just to own a particular non-breed of dog.
Not every pit bull is like that man. The reason you hear more about pit bull attacks then other breeds is because of a few reasons:
1. Pit bulls are the most widely owned breed in the U.S., thus having higher bite statistics
2. Pit bulls fall into the wrong hands because some people get them to look "macho" and even train them to be mean
3. Media bias- sometimes the paper reports pit bull attack when it was a chow or some other breed
4. Being as strong as they are, when they do attack they will inflict serious damage and it will get publicity. More chihuahuas and small dogs actually bite people but these are minor incidents and go unreported.
Thank you, TSA. Why am I not shocked that you're a pit bull supporter too.
Do you know why chihuahua and small dog bites go unreported? Nobody is DEAD afterwards.
The kid probably pissed off the pit.
Serves him right.
I'm not really a pit bull supporter, just an unbiased animal lover. It's not the pit bulls fault he has lethal power, man bred him that way. It's up to the owner to raise and train the dog right, and maybe stricter laws about who can own one. 99% of these attacks are by dogs owned by irresponsible people, who probably wanted the dog to look "macho" and maybe even encouraged aggressive behavior. More Labs, Golden retrievers, and small dogs like chihuahuas bite people every year, it's just they usually aren't lethal. It's sort of like that saying..guns don't kill people..people do.
half of the alleged Pit Bull attacks aren't even Pit Bulls. Breed misidentification is all too common. There's an attack, looks pitish, yeah we'll call it a pit that sells.
Any loose dog is a threat.
Our pitbull is a wuss and we don't plan on making her mean. Granted shes still kind of puppy.
Even though im sure you are joking, thats still a bull thing to say.
especially being a father.
You and alot of dumb s dont know WTF you are talking about. I have a family member with 2 pitbulls (raised them since pups). Ive been around the pits personally, and they are great dogs, never seemed violent or anything. The guy who owns them is an upper middle class family man with a wife and 2yr old daughter. I spoke with him the other day and he said he is getting rid of the dogs.......they have become more aggressive and jealous towards his daughter, and he is afraid they will eventually attack her. He felt the same way about Pitbulls as you posters......NOT ANYMORE. He said he doesnt even understand why the dogs have changed.
So STFU unless you really know what is up with these animals.
Oh yeah, have a great day.![]()
You don't think this ever happens with any big dog breed? This sort of thing happens all the time, it's more to do with the personality than the breed of the dog. Sounds like your family member is a smart responsible dog owner and saw the warning signs that these dogs may not be great around kids. Good choice.
I cant believe the absurdity of somebody claiming that Pit bulls are not any more dangerous than other dogs…Ask your local All-State agent to pull up the statistics…In CA Pit bulls, Dobermans, Chows (to name a few) are on a banned list for home owner insurance coverage…
I have never seen a headline that says, Fluffy Golden Retriever mauls child…
It does happen......a bite for sure, but not to the death. C'mon, use common sense.![]()
Terminate all pit bulls, the world doesnt need them. They are naturally aggressive, more violent than other breeds. Dogs doesnt think, they rely on instincts and even if they have a good personality, instincts will still kick in. It's their nature. Im afraid of kids walking their pit bull pets here in the neighborhood, regret is always at the end.
I second that motion!
I have a blue pit and she is the biggest wuss in the world, I have grown up around pits my whole life and never has any of our pits ever tried to attack anyone.
Baby pit we just got a month ago

Breed misidentification is never mentioned though, sadly.
I'm guessing 95% of the people here can't identify one.
Take a try here....http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
Labs and Golden Retrievers are now also banned by some insurance companies because of how many bites are recorded per year.
Naturally aggressive towards other dogs, sure, but towards humans.............you couldn't be any more wrong.
You want to bring up instincts, then think about what they were bred to do. They were bred to work and eventually bred to fight.......against other dogs, not humans. If a fighting dog bit its handler, it was immediately killed. The dogs temperaments were constantly being monitored and the dogs that showed no aggression towards their fighting handlers were the ones that were bred. Which all led to a dog who's instincts were to NOT be aggressive towards humans. The American Temperament test proves this.
I'm not getting into this again though, re-read my old posts if you want any info.
One of the ugliest in dogs on the planet.
i cant see a reason anyone would WANT to own one, other than to try and look tough.
That's ed up. Didn't you just have a kid?
