Lithuanian shooter scores 76 points to set new North Carolina scoring record - Jan. 26, 2005 - by Mindaugas Veromejus
Matthews, North Carolina, January 25th. - Statesville Christian School senior guard, Zygis Sestokas exploded for 76 points on Tuesday night in a 117 - 32 romp over Covenant Day School in Matthews North Carolina. Sestokas broke the North Carolina single game boy's high school scoring record previously held by former Statesville Christian player and current William and Mary standout, Edwin Ofori-Attah (193-G-85).
Sestokas, a native of Vilnius Lithuania and in his first year in America shot 27-38 from the field including 14-21 from the three point arc and was 8-14 from the free throw line. Sestokas was also credited with 11 rebounds and 6 assists. "I have never witnessed a shooting performance like the one Zygis put on tonight. We had played this team earlier in the year and beat them by around 40 points so we were looking for a way to motivate our players and get some good work in. We had been notified that an assistant coach from the College of Charleston was coming to the game tonight to watch Zygis play. We decided as a team that we would try to feed Zygis since he is our lone senior and hope he could show this coach his shooting stroke. Zygis has an official visit tenatively scheduled at Oral Roberts University and Tennessee/Chattanooga has expressed interest but no sound offers are on the table as of yet. Zygis responded in a way no one could imagine. He hit his first six three point attempts, was getting put backs and running the floor with reckless abandon. At halftime he had 38 points. We talked about what to do as a staff and a team. We are a Christian school and certainly wanted to show sportsmanship but did not want to deny Zygis the opportunity to have the game of a lifetime either. We asked our starters if they were willing to sacrifice playing time to let him play with four of our bench players. They agreed and that is how we played it all but two minutes of the second half which was when we gave Zygis a rest. Sestokas who had a relatively calm 13 points in the third quarter ignited again in the 4th going 6-7 from the 3 point line and scoring an incredible 25 points. At this point it became a spectacle to watch as anywhere from one to three defenders were hanging on him on every shot. When it was all said and done he ended the game with 76 points." Sestokas cried in the locker room after the game and thanked his teammates for the gift they helped him achieve. Sestokas sports a 3.7 GPA and has scored 960 on his first SAT attempt.
Sestokas, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound senior, has showed his shooting touch all season by averaging right at 55% from the 3 point line. He does not just pick on the little guys. He had big 3 point nights on national powers, Mt Zion (5-7), Laurinburg Ins ute (4-6) Oak Hill Academy (3-5) The Italian Junior National Team (3-3) and Charlotte Latin (4-6). Sestokas also won the 3 point shootout at the US Prep Basketball Foundation Holiday Tournament in December.
Statesville Christian, which also has another Lithuanian – 6-foot-7 junior forward Mantas Leonavicius on the team, is currently ranked number 1 in the latest NCISAA/Rivals.com 1A North Carolina Independent School's Athletic Association weekly poll. This marks the first time in school history a basketball team has been ranked number one in the poll.

Yeah, 960 on the SAT is pretty bad. I scored higher than that when I was in 7th grade.
Once again - He may or may not read English well, but if that is a challenge...on a timed test...that could be a factor.

Off topic, sort of, they are changing the SAT for 2006 grads. Now it has three sections, the third being writing.
I always had better grades in school than I scored on standardized tests...which was never bad, but I always ended up sitting at a table with the 1.) sniffler, 2.) the pencil tapper, and 3) the gum smacker.

I killed both. 4.7 GPA and 1400 SAT.
