Bryant Could Miss 10 More Games

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...ck=2&cset=true

By Mike Bresnahan, Times Staff Writer

Kobe Bryant, sidelined since sustaining a severely sprained right ankle Jan. 13, is not expected to play on an upcoming trip and could be out until mid-February.

The Lakers have four more home games before beginning a five-game trip Feb. 6 in Houston. Bryant already has sat out six games.

"As of today, it's unlikely that he'll play on the trip," Laker spokesman John Black said Thursday. "We maintain hope that he'll be back soon. He's a fast healer compared to most people, but that was a severe sprain."

Even if he doesn't play on the trip, which includes games in Atlanta, New Jersey, Detroit and Cleveland, Bryant will travel with the team to continue daily treatment sessions with trainers.

When the Lakers return, they will have one home game, Feb. 15 against Utah, before the All-Star break.

Bryant is second in All-Star voting among Western Conference guards, although he will skip the game if his ankle hasn't healed. If he plays before then and does not exacerbate the injury, the league would expect Bryant to play in the All-Star game, Feb. 20 in Denver.

Kobe won't pass up the All-Star game stage. He needs all the positive press he can get and playing in the All-Star game and smiling and hugging people would help his image.

I concur with timvp. He could have a broken leg and he'd still suit up for the A-S game, it's the game's biggest glamour event (outside of the Finals), and is about the only stage he'll be getting to for the rest of his career.

If he doesn't play (and it IS an if), then I would think Manu would almost be a lock. If he can go, I would imagine that he will play, even though the game IS in Colorado.

What if Peja doesn't go (I know he's listed as a forward on the ballot), but would they take another swingman and take Manu?

Fans won't care if Kobe plays or not. Before the suns game I would hear PARKER over MANU,now it is the other way around. If PARKER 25pts and 5 assist in the next 3 games and MANU goes 10 and 3 who deserves it.

Manu. Sorry, Tony's kick ass and all, but Manu is one of the most exciting players in the game today, and I'm talking about the whole league.

People are right, the Spurs are boring... whenever Manu's not in the game

when Dallas topped the WC before the ASG, they invited Dirk & Nash. Last year, it was Minny at the top of WC and they invited Cassel & KG. This yr, they shld consider 2 Spurs to participate, they have the best record in the West Conference & over-all. Would it be Manu or TP, doesn't really matter, these 2 players have the potentials and credentials(2 les,Olympic MVP for Manu), to back them off.

Since there is about 3 guards that have higher ppg ave. than Manu, its going to be tough for him to get in.

You're aiming for a hug, aren't you, LJ.

I actually agreed with Vex today. Guards in the ASG should be McGrady (vote), Bryant (vote), Nash, Ray Allen, Manu (fill in for the injured Bryant).

BTW, you guys might get to see our Photo Editor. Found out last night he got a credential to cover it for some paper from Central/North Texas, IIRC.

Speaking of which, I have been having an argument w/ my cousin for the past year or so. I say that if a player scores 20-some points on 12-for-16 shooting or so, its better then if a player, I wont name names (AI!), scores 40-some on like 20-for-50 shooting. To me, production is more important then ppg. But thats just me.

Wouldn't 15 for 20 shooting be at least 30 points? Just checking my math, don't want in on the debate.

    Nope.

Not statistically, not in fantasy either.

    Sorry.

I would agree with you (except for the math ). If somebody is taking that many shots, it doesn't allow others to get their shots, get some calls, create offense.

Now, if your team can't hit the broadside of a barn, then maybe a 50-shot night is in order.

If there's one All-Star game Kobe might like a excuse to skip, it'd be one in Denver, don't you think?

My bet is he doesn't play.

Not if he hugs the wrong person, who later recants and says they never wanted a hug. Then the wifey gets a matching bracelet, Kobe gets more legal fees, and I get to point and laugh.

    Yao 03.

    Stockton, many times.

Yao was voted in. Wake up.

Stockton was off the charts in assists and still scored more than Manu.

Manu is average in all categories...

    Average.
