A scant 35 dead, 8 of 13 million registered voters cast their ballots. Iraqi voters and soldiers dancing in the street, children playing...

60 percent turnout isn't something i'd throw a party over just yet. neither is a "scant" 35 dead.
All in all, i hope it turns out well, but I don't think thats a huge turnout.
It's bigger than what we had in America.
35 is a small number considering the assholes over there were saying the streets would flow with the blood of voters. I'm not demeaning those who died, just that all the talk of 400 suicide bombers, streets filled with blood, yada yada yada, and then what actually happened today proved a couple of things:
1. Iraqis are getting tired of the insurgency's bull
2. The pathetically inflated numbers of "insurgents" claimed by Dan and other whackos is way off
3. The transitioning American security posture, Iraqis in the front with US advisors, is working.
4. More people got out to vote today in Iraq, with threats of violence and death, than got out to vote in our last presidential election (speaking in terms of percentage).
It reminds me a lot of Afghanistan. All those threats by Osama, then when push came to shove election day, teh insurgents could only muster a weak wimper.
I'm sorry Manny but you have just verified everything I have suspected about those that oppose this war...you just don't have a clue man.
That would be one of the highest turnouts in US history...and they did it under threat of death and with individuals using harsh intimidation tactics.
For the record...63% is the best American turnout...and no one was being threatened with death...
And by the way Manny, I think you need to adjust your death total.
9 of those were the suicide bombers, and I won't give those assholes the credit of negatively impacting the death total.

I've got about 15 friends over there, my sister will be going at some point in the next year, and I may be joining her as well, so suck it.
For the record, contries coming into democracy on their own display much larger voter turnouts than those here in the United States.
Please, we are the poster child for people who don't care what the government does and do nothing about it, I hardly think using our figures as a baseline is setting the bar very high.

So, the military does more than handle Iraq.
Vietnam was a mistake in how we fought it, and how we let propaganda (press) distort what was going on.
The Vietnamese credit our press as being the biggest reason they won, and admit that in reality they were losing on the ground.
The Kerry criticism lies in the fact that he turned his back on his fellow troops and committed treason, whether you like it or not.
My dad fought over there, and he and all his buddies think Kerry's a POS.

You notice none of those countries were Arab countries right, particularly Arab countries that have had the kicked out of them by the US Military? Figure it out. Then maybe you'll have a better understanding of this war
