If Donaghy was betting on games so much, then he MUST have had inside information. Inside information telling him who is more likely (or is guaranteed) to win. Now how else can a team be guaranteed to win? The way each player plays isn't guaranteed each night. But the officiating can guarantee a win especially since refs have a lot of power these days.

Some of his inside info was a few games that he knew were fixed. In the 2002 Western conference finals, in game 6, two refs were in on the fix, Bob Delaney and Bavetta. These two refs could not guarantee a Lakers win, but were able to pull it off.

Had the Kings blown out the Lakers, the fix would have failed.

The whole point of my post was that there is only one way you can get inside information on an NBA game and that's if it was fixed. Players can't guarantee a win because the way each player plays isn't guaranteed night to night. Refs however can fix games.

According to this article, Donaghy was not just feeding inside info to gamblers, he was fixing games by making bogus calls and gambling himself.

He can easily effect a game. Just call a key player for touch fouls early on and you effect his aggresiveness on Defense and driving to the hoop on offense. I swore I saw him call a foul on Amare Stoudarmire in the backcourt when the ball and 7 other players were on the other half of the court last year in the playoffs. Then a few plays later nailed him for a touch foul.

Call fouls on key players and you also mess up rotations and flow of the team.
