i like both of your ideas... but tell me MB... would we seriously keep Griffin? or he would be just6 bought out? what you'd do?
RC should be able to cook up some kind of small beneficial draft day trade with Sam.
One that would make sense for both clubs might be the Spurs taking Adrian Griffin's contract back using the Beno trade exception along with sending out a 2nd round pick (perhaps #45 or one in a future draft) for the #24 pick.
Griffin's 2007-08 salary was $1.59 mil. He has one year remaining on his contract, but apparently he is guaranteed less than what would be the full amount for 2008-09 (approximately $1.7 mil).
Another might involve dealing Bonner for Damien Wilkins plus the #24. The Spurs would probably have to include some cash and a pick. That would save the Sonics about $500K over two years.
Of course, maybe Horry has some kind of weird non-guaranteed year left on his contract ala Ferry, which would allow the Spurs to give the Sonics some real payroll relief.

Spurs would just take back his contract and either buy him out or cut him and eat the salary.
I could see Griffen hanging around if that happened.
More than likely though he wouldn't make the squad.
I really like both scenarios. I would guess the viability of such deals would depend on which prospects are available as the draft rolls into the later round. I'm sure RC would want to have such a deal in place if two prime prospects look to be on the board.
Seeing as how the ownership is likely wanting to trim salaries, Seattle would probably be THE most logical and attractive trading partner.
Also, since the Spurs do not have a first round pick next year, the time to strike such a rare, first-round "double-dip" would be this draft.
Not bad ideas, but I would like to see us use the TE & actually get a player like Jarrett Jack, but if that is not possible, then I would like to see us acquire another lower first round pick, Portland is looking to move their pick, so I would like to see us get a pick between #13-21....if all else fails then these make sense.
I think Seattle's more likely for a salary dump trade as payroll reduction means more to their ownership than one of the Earth's wealthiest individuals. Plus, Jack's career isn't over.

Seattle has 13 picks in the next two drafts, 6 of them this year. I'm thinking they won't be averse to moving #24.
That's way too many picks to keep them all. I would hope that the FO is burning up that line - the SAS have some catching up to do given some of the off season Faux Pas (that means mistakes for our less educated posters on the left coast).
wow! Seattle has 13 picks 6 this year and 7 next year!? they could build a whole team off of just draft picks... LOL! Yea I bet we can get one of their late first round picks...so we would have 4 all together... that would rock.
I would love to get a two of Seattle's 2nds this year and possibly their first.
We don't have to use all 6 of the picks.....we could then trade some of them away for 2009 so we will have more than 1 pick (near the bottom of the 2nd) next year.
Remember the other thread where someone said we could trade with Washington and get their 18 + McGuire? What if we did that....
And also did one of these Seattle scenarios where we get the 24 and their two middle 2nd rounders (46 + 50).....maybe in the deal we give up 57.....
That would give us 18, 24, 45, 46, 50
We could potentially get Donte Green and Brandon Rush in the 1st Round......
We could package 45 & 46 to move up higher into the 2nd Round and get Alexis Ajinca, Courtney Lee, or Jason Thompson if any of the 3 are still on the board.
We could use # 50 to either draft Keith Brumbaugh or trade for a 2009 pick.
I don't see them letting Wilkins go. Man I would love to have the kid however he is worth more than Bonner, and them adding that pick is just bonehead.
The basis for a deal with Seattle or Washington would be helping them reduce payroll. I don't believe it would be worth it to the Wizards to give up their #18 to move McGuire's minimum contract. Unless they really didn't want the guaranteed contract that goes along with that 1st round pick.
Also, if the Spurs did a deal such as taking back Griffin's contract, I doubt the Spurs would be able to get much more than just the #24.
so what u are saying is that they are giving us the 24 for the 26 plus taking away Griffin's contract? I think they should at least toss in one of those 2nd rounders.......
I wasnt the one who started the Washington thread.....i was posting based on what i read in that very thread about Washington wanting to dump salary......and not have to deal with guaranteed money or at least that much in guaranteed money.....I think the idea was for us to give them the trade exemption for McGuire and then to trade our 26 for their 18....so their cap hit would be smaller.

So basically we trade the 26 to Washington for the 18 and take two players off their books.....we also acquire the the 24 from Seattle for taking away Griffin's contract? Do I have this right?

Maybe, but McGuire is the guy we should be after.
You give me Chalmers, Hendrix/White, McGuire, address the scoring with the MLE, and call it a day.
