When I first tried Sushi in San Antonio, I thought it was horrible, It was at Golden Phoenix on Perrin Beitel i believe. AFter coming here to Costa Rica, My GF took me to a place called GOYI. Man i love Sushi now.

**for those of you want to try it, I recommend California Roll, probably the safest way to go for trying it as ur first time**

Getting a big plate of sushi , dipping it in soy sauce and scarfing it down when ur hungry, there's nothing better. got a 48 piece , with 2 drinks for about $24. not bad.

I love sushi! In Seattle, there's this place called Blue C Sushi where it has a rotating conveyor system with plates that are color coordinated with prices. I thought that was awesome.

I'll be in Costa Rica next month so I'll try out this Goyi since I was looking for a sushi place. Tell AJ I said hi.

Of course sushi is going to suck at a buffet. For anyone out in SoCal, Noshi Sushi on Beverly & Western is outstanding (and affordable). Their fish is the freshest I've ever had, and their sushi pieces are large and with little rice. The only bad thing is they don't have fresh wasabi (you get the putty-looking fake wasabi).

My favorite sushi here in Austin is at Sushi Sake on 183 and 360. I've never had a bad experience there. They have an excellent assortment of rolls, generous on the fish, great Sake, and a great ambiance.

very, very few places have real wasabi because it is expensive... most is just green horseradish

Hokey smokes. You got sushi at the Golden Phoenix?

That probably wasn't sushi. That was just stuff they forgot to cook. Be glad you're alive.

we didn't go there for the sushi, but my girlfriend loved sushi and told me let's try some, so yeah it wasn't good for my first experience. it was very chewy and had a stench , I thought that's how it's supposed to be .

but man now that i've had some sushi the way it's supposed to be made, it's so awesome, nothing like sushi when u feel like chowing down something different.

    I've had wasabi, man it's y

Several very good places in New Orleans. Rock 'n' Sake on Magazine St. is very good, as is Horinoya in the CBD. If you're in Metairie there are also a few good places I would recommend.

I was, however, introduced to sushi while working for the U.S. Forest Service in Connecticut. During our time in the lab, when I was in town, we stayed in a building in Ansonia, near New Haven. There was a female scientist, from Hong Kong, who also stayed there. Her expertise was beetles. She was at URI I think. Anyway, she and I used to go down to a couple of places near Yale. Those places were outstanding!

Even better were these white Yalies, dressed in Buddhist robes! Is that what they're learning in the Ivy League now??

My favorite kind of sushi involves eel -- I love it on top of rice, in a salad of some sort, or in sushi. I also love deep red tuna and pink salmon. The rolls are great too, provided they're not covered in mayonnaise-y sauce. The California roll is good for the beginner, but I generally opt for the eel hand roll.

I also have hot dreams about seaweed salad. The place in Metaire (Oki Nago) makes an excellent one. And miso soup. And cold noodle soup with large take mushrooms. At this point, I am migrating away from sushi towards Japanese cuisine, but it's all good!

    Anyone like kimchi?

I also recommend Shusihanna on NW Military. It has been a couple of years since I have been there(I hope it is still there)but DAMN they have good sushi.
Il Sung on Blanco at 410 has good sushi as well.

i love grilled unagi with a side of seaweeds and pickled ginger.
And you guys should try uni sushi (sea urchins). they are creamy, sometimes tastes a little milky and has a strong ocean aftertaste..dip it in soy sauce with a lil wasabi and finish the meal up with juyondai sake.

you know what you could do,

buy a piece of salmon, i think it cost about 20-30bucks...

take it home and slice in long thin pieces...about 4-5cm x 2mm thick....

dip it in japanese soy sauce and wasabi...

this is what my mom usually does....we use to get free sushi rolls also

kimchi is just like any other fukn salad man, only thing i hate about it is the smell.

Korean food is okay, a bit pricey though...only thing i dont like about it is they bring out too many dishes and it covers up the whole table ....feel sorry for the person doing the dishes by hand....

Korean hasn't really caught on in America, not like the other Asian foods. I like it, though. Used to eat it all the time in Biloxi-Gulfport, Mississippi.

    And kimchi is great.

But back to sushi ... New Orleans is not known for its Asian food, but some of the places here are still excellent. Haven't tried sea urchin -- will have to give it a try.
