When was the last time he beat an opposing team by himself? Do you think 127 yards passing is beating the other team by himself?
your too stupid to understand what i said
i was alluding to the fact that you are waiting for vince young to somehow force his defensive coordinator to only play vince at defense
somehow get the coach to only play vince on special teams
waiting for the offense to only feature vince with no OL RB or WR
then for vince to win the game
That's what you are waiting for to eat crow. Until that happens, you win.

all facts...Vince is 2-0 and played a good game
nuthugging
are you denying that Tennessee is more confident with Vince?
his ability to run opened up 172 yards passing.
nutlicking
Yeah...pretty much. His ability to run opened up 172 yards passing. They have to watch the QB to make sure he doesn't rush, taking their focus off the receivers. Do you watch football? Do you know anything about it?
Blake
11-09-2009, 11:32 PM
Dude, stats aren't everything. You need to watch the games (or at least the play by play).
VY ran for the Titans' first TD in a 3rd and 7, not many QB's in the league could have done that (definitely not Collins) and that was a key play, it was a game changer.
right now, how many teams would VY would be the starting QB on?
choose your answer wisely for it will determine your nuthuggery.

Where's Harrell again? Sonny Cumbie? BJ whateverthefuckhisnameis?
whateverthefuckhisnameis plays in the Mexican Football League (MFL), but Tech QBs have nothing to do with your nuthugging no matter how often you might bring them up.
Now I see the source of hostility in this thread. 127 NFL yards is 127 Harrell would trade his nuts for right now, lol
Harrell would probably trade one nut to be in the NFL.....don't know about the 2nd.

I didn't say he did. That's why I asked questions.
youre such a retard, im sure you can go to a local college and take a class on reading comprehension. then maybe you can come back here and carry on a semi intelligent conversation.
Are you trying to put words in my mouth or are you not able to understand what a question mark at the end of a sentence means?
you should be able to comprehend what a question is before you get to college.

Your reply to my post showed what a retard you are. And then when i spelt it out for you, you ran the opposite way with it.
If you're trolling and trying to get a rise out of people it's cool. But the VY nuthugging in here was realistically a bajillion times less than it would have been say, 2 or 3 years ago. He won the game. That's basically all that needs to be said. Calling that nuthugging just shows you're expecting something unrealistic (like in some fantasy world Vince beating a team 1 QB versus an entire squad, which is what I was saying earlier.)

Then it's settled. You are waiting for the Titans to either
1) clone Vince Young, play him at every position on defense offense and special teams, win a game.

2) you're waiting for Fisher to persuade the refs to let him only field one player on the field at all times. And that player be Vince. Then win the game.

ok...I'm only gonna say this once, Simple Jack.
When you have the ability to run, linebackers and safeties are going to be focusing on the possibility of you taking off and running as well as the receivers. If you are a fucking statue, like Kerry Collins, they don't have to worry about you running a QB draw for 10 yards and a first down, so they can focus on covering the receivers. Also, it opens up for a lot more screens, because naturally, if a QB can run the ball, you have to bring more people in to blitz, because if you just sit back in coverage, the QB will go on a bootleg and take off and get at least 4-5 yards. Do that twice and you have a first down, and when LBs rush in, it leaves the field open for 5-10 yard slants and passes to the flats, as well as screens..which opens up his fucking passing game. Once again, something that anyone with football knowledge would understand....

Then why isn't Vince passing for 300 yards a game?
Is it because your theory sucks or does Vince suck?

the theory is correct
its just that:
1. vy has crap for receivers
2. vy isnt a great PASSER
just because he isnt launching 300 yards a game doesnt mean that his presence doesnt change the way defenders play
just because Jason Kapono and his amazing 3 point shooting helps open offenses up, doesnt mean hes going to be dropping 20 a game due to other holes in his game. but the presence is there, and it has a very positive effect on the team.
as long as VY avoids turning the ball over, the titans offense will be fine. VYs biggest problem has been throwing interceptions downfield. his accuracy isnt great, but its not horrible either. he has a good arm. he knows how to check down to the TE and RB when nothing is open. he just needs to learn how to make better reads on downfield throws. i think he doesnt see safeties and linebackers dropping into coverage sometimes and that is when he gets in trouble. if he can learn how to make those reads better, he could potentially be a hell of a QB.

Maybe because of the playcalling and because they don't need to throw more.
If you can move the chains and win games by running the ball, then there's no need to throw the ball.

With just one or two plays for game, it's hard to have an impact on games in so little time. Brown, Williams and White have a lot more touches and are ussually in game rythm when they have to run the wildcat.

He wouldn't start for the Jets, Lions, Chiefs or Bucs. All of these teams invested high picks and/or a ton of money into their current starters.
Jags? Don't see the upgrade.
Dolphins? Doubtful as Parcells loves Henne.
49ers? Interesting scenario with Alex Smith. Considering that Smith has played decent this year and that he's their very own high pick reclamation project, it's doubtful VY would start over him right now. I'd say a coin flip at best.

bottom line here.....
Vince has played two games this year as a starter for the Titans
The Titans have won those two games

Watching Vince against the Niners this past Sunday, he's not nearly as bad as I remembered. He even threw a few nice deep balls. Overall he managed the game and didn't make mistakes. He's certainly improved from his last run of starts a few years ago. If he can continue to improve he'll certainly avoid the 'bust' label.
But the main reason the Titans won that game is Chris Johnson. End of story. That, plus, Alex Smith sucks balls. (and so do the Niners, pretty much)

the theory is correct
its just that:
1. vy has crap for receivers
2. vy isnt a great PASSER
you answered it right there.
Blake
11-11-2009, 10:58 AM
Maybe because of the playcalling and because they don't need to throw more.
If you can move the chains and win games by running the ball, then there's no need to throw the ball.
naw, it's not about need.
If the passing was really opened up that much, then the numbers would reflect it.

UT bias?
bias?
how is people saying he won two games and played well, bias?
choose your words more carefully, youre hurting your cause and making yourself look ignorant
perhaps you can go to dictionary.com or someshit and learn what bias is, or else read on up on what a message board is
As soon as i said "nuthugging", it was like I stepped on an anthill and all the UT fans started running out, you included. I looked it up at someshit.com and it confirms that I'm right.
why don't you go back and re-read some of the posts that went beyond "he played well". If you need help finding these posts that I've already noted on several occasions in this thread, let me know.
If you weren't a ut honk, I doubt you would even be responding right now.

i dont think "bias" has anything to do with VYs first two games or a SPORTS MESSAGE BOARD but whatever
besides using the word bias incorrectly, your entire argument is vince is winning not because of his play, but because of chris johnson and the defense
well naturally every qb has defense and running backs, i would love to do this every week, every fucking week i would love for you to say that vince youngs defense and runningbacks win games for him
pick your spots man, he'll lose again, he'll throw picks, he wont win the super bowl every year until he retires, youre clowning yourself blake

you are apparently confused about what the arguments are.
The comments about him shooting the Titans in the ass and how he should have started from game 2 are coming from biased nuthugging ut honks.
That has nothing to do with the argument that the Titans are winning because of their defense, Chris Johnson and Vince not making any mistakes.
He's not losing games, but he's not really winning them.

Vince owned Tech and won a championship in the best college game ever played...Blake is obviously still butthurt over that and will never get over it, so will never give Vince credit for anything he does. He wont give credit to Vince for managing a game perfectly. Blake even shits on Vinces' charity work, because again, he is still butt hurt about U.T. winning a championship.Vince has even done some great charity work and has taken a positive male role for the late Steve McNair's children, but Im sure Blake thinks that is stupid of Vince to do, because he think's Vince is a loser.

Wow..you really don't know a lot about football...The Tennessee Titan's offense is not one based around the skills of a running quarterback...it's too basic. That's why they never should have drafted Vince in the first place. When Atlanta drafted Michael Vick, they knew he was a running QB, and wasn't that skilled at throwing perfectly accurate passes, but because they were so horrible at the time, they changed their style to one that works with a running QB style...they promptly reached the SB a couple of years later. Tennessee brought in a running QB, but kept a pocket passer style. If they let Vince work the way he's comfortable, like he did in Texas (where he led the NCAA in accuracy his senior year), they'd be in a hell of a better position, but Fisher won't. Because of this, they should have let someone else draft Vince, and go after another position player.

Eh, sometimes a benching is the exact thing a player needs to get motivated. Sure, I wish he hadn't of done it, but it may have been the best thing to happen to VY, to get him more focused on football. Remember what happened after Drew Brees got benched for sucking horribly... he completely changed his workout and diet in the offseason and worked extra hard to get ready for the next year, and turned into a top QB in the NFL.

Because of this, they should have let someone else draft Vince, and go after another position player.

im not saying they would or wouldnt have, but i wouldn't say its as farfeched as you think. collins didnt exactly do anything to wow people. he completed under 60% of his passes, and pretty much let Chris Johnson (a rookie) carry the team.
i think people forget how good of a weapon Chris Johnson is. VY never had a weapon like him before, and didnt really get much of a chance to play with him last year. but CJ was clearly the MVP of that offense last year, and its obvious how much he helps VY this year, because VY actually has a weapon he can depend on to lead the offense with him. remember what collins did with the same supporting cast that VY had in his first 2 years with the titans? he completed 46% of his passes and had a 1 to 6 TD/INT ratio.
again, i wont say that they would or wouldnt have been as successful if VY stayed at the helm, but i think having CJ would have benefited him quite a bit, much like it helped collins.

I think it doesn't really matter.
The schedule for the Titans this year to start was brutal. 4 of those first 6 were on the road against Pitt, Jets, Jax and NE......the two home games were against Indy and Houston....
they get the bye week, then play Jax and Buffalo at home and SF on the road for the 3 wins.
imo, you could interchange the QBs and you would get the same record. Neither one really throws enough passes to either win or lose the game on his own.

Agreed, but, Vince simply was not ready for last season. VY fans should be happy Collins played so well for a year, that gave VY a reality check that he needed to start working and it was no longer like college where everyone's main objective was to keep him happy.
I remember an article several years ago about how Texas players are coddled too much in college and it leaves them completely unprepared for the NFL. Look at Benson once he had a year off, and now look at Young. That article appears to be right.

Some players need discipline from other people, some can do their job on their own. In those cases, the players didn't need anyone to be hard on them to stay motivated.

true
its funny though that the "head cases" like benson, vy and ricky. (all statistically some of the greatest players in college football history) all are currently having good seasons, and that proves they were coddled?
roy is having a bad year after he was sent to the annual shitstorm that is the dallas cowboys and now he was coddled?
Blake
11-20-2009, 02:05 AM
........I have written about the Roy trade plenty over the months, and I am still confident that he is capable of getting done what they need done. But, part of this equation is bigger than running routes and making catches. It is being able to handle it when you play poorly. People are going to question you. People are going to boo you. Are you going to freak out, As Vince Young did when he was introduced to adversity , or are you going to prove you want to defeat it?
Which brings us to another fun thread. The thread where you question why Vince Young and Roy Williams (and Cedric Benson and Ricky Williams) have such a hard time achieving that which they were thought able to achieve at the NFL level.
Those 4 names have 2 things in common: 1) All were taken in the top 10 of the NFL draft and paid handsomely before ever taking a snap, and 2) All were products of Mack Brown’s Univeristy of Texas football program.
This is the portion of the blog entry where I suggest that maybe, just maybe, high-profile players from Texas are sheltered and coddled by Mack and assured that victory is your fault, but defeat never is. Not to suggest that Texas players cannot play at the next level (which many UT fans already confused) but RATHER, that players who are asked to stand in the spotlight at the NFL level from Mack Brown’s program do not appear to like it when people are throwing insults rather than flowers at their feet.
If my email box is any indication, this will cause some Texas fans to change the argument. Here are some examples from the last 24 hours:

By the way the following Longhorns made the 2009 ProBowl:
Leonard Davis
Shawn Rogers
Now if you want to do honest journalism evaluate the other major college programs for comparison:
Oklahoma (outside of Adrian Peterson who else has been a hit, how is their Roy Williams doing these days)
USC (Mike Williams, Matt Lienart, Lendale White, how is that greatness doing these days)
Penn State (it’s well documented their running back struggles in the NFL)
Florida (seeing a successful NFL quarterback from there lately, how is that working out)
Before you bag on Texas, please do just a tadbit more research.
Thanks,
Matt in Frisco
Using Phil Dawson to deflect heat from Vince Young? Priceless. Or, this one:
Hey Sturm VY was 30 -2 at Texas what did you want Mack to say to him. Please lose more so we can yell at you. Hey Ricky please don’t win the Hieseman so we can yell at you more. Shawn Rogers please don’t anchor the best defensive line in football so we can yell at you more. Please stick to throwing your panties at U2 and Brett Farve. Maybe next segment you tell the listeners about all of the Sooners who are tearing it up in the NFL because I can only think of one “AP”. Thank you P1 Clay in Shady Shores.
U2 and Brett Favre? That is staying on topic.
While I do appreciate those guys listening/reading my material, I wish they would listen closer. The discussion is not about ALL Texas players having something in common. As you point out, there are many Texas players who are having fine NFL careers. That is not the argument.
The question is also NOT: What about other schools having busts? While this is also true, It would seem that Texas has as many Top 10 picks who continuously underachieve as anyone in the country (Mike Williams, anyone?) over the last decade.
Also, this is not a question of whether Oklahoma has a list of NFL players that compare to Texas. As someone who pulls for the Wisconsin Badgers, I don’t have a dog in this fight. But, I would suggest that Adrian Peterson and Tommie Harris alone provide two players who were taken very high in the draft and not only achieved, but perhaps over-achieved from their spot in the draft. In fact, Tommie was chosen 7 picks behind Roy Williams in the 2004 draft. Think the Lions want a do-over?
We can change the topic if we want to protect our favorite school, or we can look for answers. As UT fan Brandon points out:
Bob -
Listening to BaD radio about Roy Williams and the comments on the Texas country club. As a UT grad, I am not going to deny that. The year of Shawn Rogers, Vince, Ricky, Roy….yes. Mack had a bubble around the team. But that I believe has changed. Look at some of the kids coming out of Texas these past two years. Orakpo, Griffin, Tony Hills (not too bad), Cosby (trying to make a team) to name a few. The team now always has their job on the line from what I have read. If you do not produce, move over, we are going to put someone else there to prove it.
BTW…see highlights of Orakpo from the Redskins / Steelers game. Poor Tony Hills getting blown up
Link of Play
And yes, I am tired of Roy talking.
Brandon
I think he is right. I think Mack Brown realizes (although good luck getting him to admit it) that he was too soft on his high-profile guys, and perhaps is asking more of Colt McCoy than he did of Chris Simms in the critique department. Time will tell.
Look, I know that nobody likes to hear critical things about a team or school they love. But, I am not sure it makes a ton of sense to deny the trend.
We all want the same thing here. Let’s hope Roy can handle the heat in 2009.

completely is such an all encompassing word.....
how prepared do you think he was/is?
imo, he's got a job because he's a gifted athlete......not because of any special prepping from his days at UT.
if you check the resume he had some great seasons in detroit
i would like to hear an example of a college specially prepping a player and that being the reason for success in the pros
peyton manning? randy moss? leinart?
roy was always a straight line, one cut route runner, hes even bigger now and hes running some stupid shit in dallas
of course deep down i have to root for him to fall on his face because i hate the cowgirls

true
its funny though that the "head cases" like benson, vy and ricky. (all statistically some of the greatest players in college football history) all are currently having good seasons, and that proves they were coddled?
all three had meltdowns before they started getting their shit somewhat together.
roy is having a bad year after he was sent to the annual shitstorm that is the dallas cowboys and now he was coddled?
from the way he has been responding to all the criticism at this level, I'd say hell yes he was coddled at UT.
of course deep down i have to root for him to fall on his face because i hate the cowgirls
hows that working out for you? having to balance longhorn love and cowgirl hate.
you in the 512 brah i got the hook on some dank right now

you could have a longer threa than this about ricky

he had one outstanding year in Detroit. so?
i would like to hear an example of a college specially prepping a player and that being the reason for success in the pros
I think Tech does a better job preparing WRs for the pros than UT, but that's just my opinion.
peyton manning? randy moss? leinart?
I don't recall hearing about their coaches coddling players.

seems to me UT/Mack did him no favors other than put him in the national spotlight.

what special prepping are you talking about then?
my point was its hard to say he was "unprepared for the nfl" after 3 good seasons for the lions, yes they sucked, no he didnt set any records but he had good seasons
seems to me UT/Mack did him no favors other than put him in the national spotlight
i have to agree because im not following you, i dont know of any favors mack brown did him, besides recruiting a country boy from odessa, letting him start 4 years, throwing the ball to him, thats pretty much what i noticed
i dont think mack talked with the lions or cowboys about signing him

Three good years?
Nah, two years where he had everything from a cracked nail to a bruised labia and one year where a converted FS had more catches than he did.

what the hell are you talking about?
he violated the league's drug abuse policy 4 times and had to sit the fuck out of the NFL because he wanted to smoke all day.
I don't recall seeing Mack Brown getting in his face to get back up on his feet, stop being a douche and get back out there.

what special prepping are you talking about then?
I said he's in the NFL based on pure talent and not on any special prepping.
I don't know of any special prepping per se, I just know for sure he didn't get any at UT on what it takes to succeed at the next level.
my point was its hard to say he was "unprepared for the nfl" after 3 good seasons for the lions, yes they sucked, no he didnt set any records but he had good seasons
he had one great season, 2 average seasons, and now he is crying about how the light gets in his eyes when he drops passes.
i have to agree because im not following you, i dont know of any favors mack brown did him, besides recruiting a country boy from odessa, letting him start 4 years, throwing the ball to him, thats pretty much what i noticed
I don't know for certain, but it wouldn't surprise me if after he dropped a ball or two that Mack would say something like "don't worry Roy.... it's not your fault that the sun is so bright"

yes youre right, did he owe you money or something?, i think its well known that hes a different guy who really didnt give a fuck about football anymore, he was a millionare, and an adult.
youre saying that proves he was coddled 15 years ago under mackovic, who recruited him and coached him for 3 years, and that THAT made mack brown coddle benson and vy and not prepare them for the nfl, and thats texas' style
thats a stretch but i get you
now we know colt mccoy is gonna suck in the nfl by default
shit
