Although he certainly was expendable given the rest of the cast.
Arguable, since the show didn't last very long after he died.

I don't really remember him being a large part of the show. He was always there but not integral to most of the episodes. Don't know how much of the audience tuned in just to see him. But I wouldn't think the ending of the show had as much to do with him as the mediocre ratings.

Newsradio was ok without him, but he was the best part of the show. He was ridiculously funny. Too bad his wife was psychotic. He didn't leave her because of their kids. From every account he was a genuinely nice guy - I saw this a few weeks ago:

Rogan talks about him a lot on the Joe Rogan Experience, and has nothing but great things to say about the kind of person he was.

Because Netflix contract with showtime expired. I think showtime wanted to start their own streaming service or something like that. The reason Weeds is still up is because Weeds is owned by Lionsgate.

I remember hearing about this one a few years ago, then forgot about it until it was covered in IFC's Indie Sex series, so I put it on my queue. The big deal is that there is lots of unsimulated sex but it's not porn. The problem is that, like porn, there isn't much plot, dialogue or character development. A lot of things in an intense sexual relationship is only interesting to the parties involved; but this relationship is pretty boring ---I kept waiting for "something to happen" but it never did.
Luckily the couple go to a lot of rock shows, so half the film is live concert footage of some decent bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Dandy Warhols; I actually fastforwarded thru some of the sex to get to the music :lol

I watched Cher on TV as a kid. Her first hit was in 1965. Her first solo was 1964. During the concert, they show archival footage also. Unless for some silly reason, you cannot stand the greatest woman singer of all time, it is a must see.

Her Alibi
1989 PG-13 94 minutes
When author Phil Blackwood (Tom Selleck) learns that beautiful Eastern European immigrant Nina (Paulina Porizkova) has been accused of murder on shaky evidence, he decides to intervene. Hoping to mine her story for material for his next novel, Blackwood offers to provide Nina with an alibi, forcing her case to be dismissed. But when Romanian spies start showing up at his house, Blackwood begins to think Nina might not be so innocent after all.

Absolutely. It's just about 1% better than the "Todd Margaret" show. It seems IFC has slipped quite a bit (starting when they added commercial breaks to the movies) and I'm watching less and less frequently. The sketch comedy shows are good, but they haven't produced a great series since Z-Rock or The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, neither of which are available on Netflix.

Not a recommendation since i haven't seen it yet but it's Netflix’s First Original Series.
http://www.geekosystem.com/netflix-lillyhammer-original/
Netflix’s first foray into the realm of original content will kick off this coming February with a new series called Lilyhammer, about a New York gangster trying to make a new start in Lillehammer, Norway. The new show is billed as a fish-out-of-water series, starring former Soprano’s mainstay (and E Street Band guitarist) Steven Van Zandt.

i'm actually watching this movie right now and figured it was worth a mention because it has former spurs center Mengke Bateer in it.. I knew i recognized his face somewhere lol.. i had to google it during the movie..
not a bad movie so far though.. and he's not a bad actor himself.. it's got subtitles so if you can stand that then check it out..
it's a bit slow in the beginning but it's for the sake of the telling the plot..

Shameless is pretty damn awesome. The US one is good too (cuz showtime had the sense to bring Abbott over to run it), but the casting choices for Steve and Kev are just nowhere near as good as McAvoy and Dean Kelly.
So who rates these movies over there?

So did anyone check out "The Man From earth?" The title says nothing about the plot. I consider it the best "B" rated movie I have ever seen. The most expensive prop might have been the bottle of Johnny Walker Green. No special effects, the entire movie is inside and outside of a cabin. The storyline in my opinion is absolutely awesome.
A college professor is moving. His colleges join him on his last day in his cabin. About 9 minutes into the story, he reveals "I could have sailed with Columbus"... "I thought the world was round, but still thought he might fall off someplace"
He reveals he is about 14,000 years old.
Great story.

Netflix lands deal for Turner and Warner Bros. TV series beginning in March
It looks like Netflix users in the US will soon have quite a few new TV series to choose from as they wait for Arrested Development to make its big return (http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/10/netflix-arrested-development-season-4-may/) in May. The company announced today that it's struck a multi-year deal with Turner Broadcasting and the Warner Bros. Television Group that will see a variety of animated and live-action series from the Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Animation, Adult Swim and TNT be made available for streaming. That includes the likes of Adventure Time, Ben 10, the Green Lantern animated series, Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and TNT's Dallas, the last of which is an exclusive deal that begins in January of 2014 -- all the other series will be available starting March 30th.
At the same time, Adult Swim shows like Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, as well as Sony Pictures Television's The Boondocks, and Childrens Hospital from WBTVG's Studio 2.0 will also hit Netflix. The Warner Horizon Television-produced TNT series Dallas is also exclusively heading to Netflix in Jan. 2014.

And the Award for the Next HBO Goes to...
Quote:
The quirky little start-up that once printed money by mailing you DVDs is hell-bent on morphing into the HBO—and the network, and the any-show, any-time streaming service—of tomorrow.
Quote:
"What if you could radically alter the way stories get told?" asks Ted Sarandos. "What if the way people wanted to consume content actually changed what you could make?" Rhetorical questions, perhaps, but the kind of things Netflix's chief content officer, its point man in Hollywood, likes to ponder when he has a down moment.
Which is hardly ever. These days, he is the man everyone wants to take a meeting with. People love you when you're handing out the cash, and Sarandos, who looks the part with pressed jeans and a crisp white shirt but has one of the weirdest résumés in town (graduate of an Arizona community college, worked his way up in the DVD business from video-store clerk, landed at Netflix in 2000 to run distribution), has $6 billion to dole out over the next three years. Most of that is for licensing content from networks, cable companies, and movie studios, but about $300 million is for original programming. "There's not a lot of really great, deep, serialized television," he says, "and we can see from the data that that's what people want."
He hopes to make at least five new shows a year, he says, leaning back on a sofa in his Beverly Hills office in an anonymous-looking suite. His dream project: a Netflix series created by Warren Beatty. "He's great in long form," Sarandos says. "His only problems have been when he's constrained." Sarandos is also warming up Jodie Foster, who directed an episode of Orange Is the New Black. "The goal," he says, "is to become HBO faster than HBO can become us." His seductive pitch to today's new breed of TV auteurs: a huge audience, real money, no meddlesome executives ("I'm not going to give David Fincher notes"), no pilots (television's great sucking hole of money and hope), and a full-season commitment.
Quote:
On February 1, all of Hollywood will be watching the debut of House of Cards, David Fincher's drama starring Kevin Spacey, for which Netflix outmaneuvered HBO. (Fincher, the director of Fight Club and The Social Network, has never before done television; Hastings gave him $100 million and let him make two thirteen-episode seasons.) Subscribers will be able to stream the entire first season of the pitch-black Beltway thriller—imagine the anti–West Wing—in a single sitting. Within months of that debut, two other series, Orange Is the New Black (by Weeds creator Jenji Kohan, from a memoir about a Smith girl in a women's prison) and Hemlock Grove, an adaptation of the supernaturally tinged novel, will also stream exclusively on Netflix. And in the spring, Netflix will debut the long-awaited season four of Arrested Development, the beloved series that Fox canceled seven years ago. (Also on the tarmac: Derek, Ricky Gervais's much maligned show about a dim-witted eccentric who works in a nursing home, and season two of Lilyhammer, Netflix's first attempt at an original series, which debuted last February and stars Steven Van Zandt as a mobster taking shelter in a small Norwegian town.)

It's absolutely great. I was leery of the direction it was going in the first episode. I don't like the glorification of evil people. The show is addictive, like Dexter in that I like something I normally wouldn't. In this case, you get to see some corruption inside of politics.

yeah very underrated film. I called it epic cause it seems they have hours and hours of film and they edited to the max, some scenes are a few seconds long. But the acting is A+ so makes up for it.
and the chick is hot :D

Fringe is up.
Is it any good tbh?
Fringe is awesome. They brought it back?
I watched the first season on Netflix then bought them in Bluray as they came out. I haven't bought the latest released season yet, so I checked, and it wasn't available. Now I need to check again!
Yep, just started watching this last night. Got hooked even before the pilot episode was over which I rarely do.
John Noble is great here. He's almost at the Morgan Freeman level of voice over mastery.

decided to start watching Alias with Jennifer Garner.
Decent show. The game I came up with is to take a shot every time someone gets tortured. If you can guess who will get tortured in the episode, make the other person drink.
I also had no clue Bradley Cooper was a regular on the show for the first two seasons as friend that had no idea she was a spy. I think he got tortured twice before his TV contract expired.......I mean before they placed him in "witness protection"

I thought I remembered it being so much better than it was.
JL Unlimited was really the bigger letdown. It had so much potential. The background storyline was good enough but the filler episodes completely/utterly sucked.
I mean....Wonder Woman turns into a pig and Batman chases after her the entire episode? That was awful.
Lex Luthor was also lame here compared to the cool calculating one-step-ahead playa he is in Young Justice.

Unlimited suffered from cartoon network axing two part episodes, which is why we got crap. But the storytelling from the original Justice League were good Legends in season 1 and hereafter in season 2 are probably my favorites

Really interesting documentary (filmed conversation might be more accurate, really) about the differences between film and digital and the hows/whys the former is increasingly being abandoned in favor of the latter in contemporary filmmaking. If you give a shit about that trend from either a technical or artistic point of view, there's a lot of really interesting information here and a great opportunity to get inside the heads of major directors. The film makes almost zero attempt to be entertaining to people who don't give a shit about any of this, though.

I saw a documentary on Netflix called Top Secret Rosies that I thought was really interesting. It was talking about how female mathematicians recruited by the University of Pennsylvania made a huge contribution to the war effort in WWII by working as computers, solving ordinary differential equations numerically to compute ballistics tables for the allied powers. Then these computers (that was their job title) ended up being the first computer programmers when ENIAC was developed at Penn. The name comes from Rosie the Riveter.

Apparently this was conceived as one long documentary (900 minutes), but it's presented on Netflix as fifteen one-hour episodes, each thematically and/or chronologically organized. It's narrated by its director, an Irish film critic, and so far the narration is a bit... odd to listen to, but he provides a very interesting look at cinema. I find myself appreciating what he has to say even during the times I don't necessarily agree with his point or how it's being made. Perhaps most interesting about this documentary, compared to other film/film history documentaries I've watched, is that there is a very strong and intentional desire to avoid looking solely at cinema in the Western world or through a Hollywood-centric point of view. I haven't watched all of the episodes yet, so I can't speak to their success, but I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've watched so far and imagine other movie nerds will, as well.

Burzynski was very very good documentary about a cancer doctor/scientist in Houston. How the Goverment tried to shut him down because he had a 20% cure rate on cancer vs 5% with the normal expensive Chemo treatments. Conspiracy Theorist will love this. Tron: Uprising the series
I have no idea why this has gone under the radar.
Best TV animation I have ever seen. By far. Might be the best I've seen anywhere.
Decent storylines, Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Paul lol Reubens and even original Tron: Bruce Boxleitner lend their voices as regular characters while Jeff Bridges makes cameos here and there.
Matrix, Star Wars, Mask of Zorro, Hunger Games all rolled into one
Can't wait for season 2.
