Not really, I think the talent level is far better in the NBA (obviously) and the games and you always get the better team winning a best of 7 series as oppose to a one game fluke.

I know I'm in the minority here, just stating my two cents.

stuff like market size doesn't matter

The one game shocker is really the drawing point. To have Wofford beat, say, BYU (or the chance of it happening...) appeals to people. The 7-game series is nice, but sometimes a series goes through a doldrum on its way to concluding. Both have their merits, but March is generally NCAA time.

That's the beauty of March Madness. There's virtually no chance you'll see a 5 or lower seed win the NBA Championship, but you'll see teams from tiny colleges sometimes upset mammoth programs like Kansas. There's beauty in the upset. Again, isn't that one of the main reasons to watch a sport, especially if you don't have a dog in the fight that you're already rooting for?

When NI knocked off the Jayhawks last year, that was one of the best things I'd ever seen as a sports fan. You could hear the tearing of about 20,000,000 brackets falling apart at once. :lol

That's what I was gonna ask next, how the refs were since they're atrocious in the NBA. I've been wanting to get into College ball but maybe I need to give more of an effort. The final 4 is always cool, but maybe because I lack the familiarity of the players unlike the NBA, I just can't get the same connection for the time being.

The way I feel is that too many defensive fouls are called in the NBA (so too many free throws), and in the NCAA there are too many offensive fouls called. The amount of offensive fouls doesn't nearly fuck up a games rhythm the way an NBA free throw fest does IMO.

Jesus WV looks like shit.

For one thing, it's not nearly as much ISO. It makes the game easier to officiate when you don't have wing players as frequently going into the post at full speed and drawing all kinds of contact. Secondly, the game is a little slower (because of lower skill/athleticism, not pace), so again, easier to officiate. Third, there are very few superstars in college, so the refs don't feel the need to make calls based on reputation.

Which is what I don't get about Stern. He wants the scoring pace to increase, yet decides to do that by awarding more free throws which just slows down the game.

Last question: Do a lot of players flop in NCAA due to all the offensive fouls? I'd imagine many would take advantage.

No more than they do in the NBA. The NCAA not having a restricted area is the main reason for more offensive fouls called.

Cry Havoc

Last question: Do a lot of players flop in NCAA due to all the offensive fouls? I'd imagine many would take advantage.

Flopping isn't nearly as prevalent. Refs don't call fouls for ticky tack, and they usually let players play for the most part, so if you fall down, you're likely hurting your team.

NBA players need to flop these days, because refs don't call fouls if a player stays on his feet anymore. It's really gotten out of hand, and I don't blame anyone in the NBA for flopping anymore. The officials have totally lost the handle on the game. I'm waiting for the day that a player bitches at a ref for not calling heavy contact and the ref responds, "Well, if you got hit so hard why didn't you fall down?"

Did you go out and catch the recent USC vs OSU home-away series? I was at the Coliseum game and that was really cool to see the passion Buckeye fans had for their team to come out to L.A. Though, some of them were tad bit nasty when they left the stadium. I'm sure, though, some of the Trojans' bandwagonners probably provoked them into some animosity.

lol having Bayless, Jordan Hill, Budinger and Nic Wise but still only being 7th in the Pac-10 :lmao

No fucking kidding. Two lottery picks in Bayless (20 ppg, 4 apg and AA 2nd team nationally) and Hill (13 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 bpg), a third current NBA starter on the rise in Budinger (17 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg) and a PG in Wise who averaged 10 ppg, 5 apg and 2 spg that season. Not to mention a senior SG off the bench in McClellan who averaged 10 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 apg.

Rofl I forgot they also had McClellan that year, who if nothing else was a senior 5 star talent.

That team had a legit three players who averaged 13-21 ppg, and two more at just over 9 ppg. They didn't have a lot of size, playing a freshman Horne and senior walk-on Breilmaier at PF, so there wasn't a whole lot of talent up front, but lots of elite-level perimeter scoring, including Bayless who averaged over 7 FTs per game. They had sold low-post defenders in Hill and Breilmaier, a solid perimeter defender in Dillon for balance. They suffered from transfers (Prince prior and Laval-Perry during), but O'Neill just couldn't maximize the talent. He wanted to slow everything down, control tempo, run 25-second offensive sets and it blew up in his face.

All I know is that prior to the start of the Conference tournaments, UCLA was mocked as a 5-seed (remember, they beat St. John's, BYU, Arizona and nearly beat Kansas) while Florida was consistently mocked as a 4-seed. UCLA loses, Florida beats a couple of shit SEC teams, all of a sudden it's a 2-seed vs. 7-seed.

As I type Smith limps off the floor, but if he's healthy, UCLA will dominate the paint and the boards.
