So did anybody catch the fact that Hamilton made the All Star Game?
After his courageous battle with drug addiction there's no way any true American can argue that choice. I think it's only fair to put him in the starting lineup of every All Star game for the next 100 years. Even when he's passed away, they should only play with eight fielders due to the respect such a great individual commands

finally a sweep
hopefully the hitters are finally getting into a groove. they need to bust out with a 10+ game win streak, and try to get some damn separation.

Holland was stellar. Who cares if it was against the A's, who can't hit shit. Complete game shutout is always good.
Also my god...one year and a day after a Rangers fan fell from the 2nd deck down the first base line (and survived)...another Rangers fan fell tonight, in left field between the two fences. This guy wasn't so lucky, and he didn't make it.

Go to the 55 second mark on the video linked. Apparently after a foul ball, Josh Hamilton flipped up the ball to the fan, who fell as he was reaching over the rail to catch it. I can't imagine how Hamilton feels. wow

Wow..that's incredibly horrible. :( Thoughts and prayers with his family. People have got to stop going out of the realm of safety to catch a baseball.

seriously, if i'm sitting there and i have to bend even a little bit, then i'm just letting it go. just not worth it.
Still, I'm not saying by any means that this guy deserved it. I've seen way worse when it comes to going after balls like that

It's scary to think about how easy it is to just fall over like that. I agree that you need to be aware of that situation if you're in those seats and tell yourself that if a ball is coming your way that you need to make sure that you know about how far you can go before you fall over.
I don't know how easy that would be in the heat of the moment though.
If it were me, I'd probably just not reach over for the ball. Either way, RIP. The kid behind him is his son apparently.

Not sure how anyone wouldn't. A ball you throw to a fan is a little short, causing the fan to reach for it, fall, and die. It is by no means Hamilton's fault. But most normal people would be pretty wrecked about it.

Jesus...Holland is mowing them down and doing so with hardly any pitches thrown. He won't get the perfect game because stretch already said the magic words and jinxed it. But he could still get the [bleep] if he keeps pitching like this. Shouldn't have to worry about his pitch count. Only 53 through 5 innings.

Holland seems to completely own the teams that don't produce any offense (Oakland and now Seattle). And then he gets obliterated by teams that can actually hit and score. His next start is in Anaheim. Holland has to be one of the hardest pitchers to predict.

This isn't even the furthest Holland has taken a no-hitter. In his rookie year in 2009, he had two outs in the 6th before giving up the first hit to the Angels. He finished with a complete game shutout with three hits allowed. 96 pitches (73 strikes), 8 strikeouts, and one walk. That is the best start of his career.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=290809103
He will be hard-pressed to top that one, but he might be on his way. Amazingly, he has already thrown more balls tonight than he did that night. And he has been anything but wild tonight.

^ Angels and A's had a double header. Angels won the first and A's won the night cap. So with the Rangers' win, we gained a half game to make it 3 up on the Angels.
Finally gave up a run, but that's all. Got the 10th win in a row! Only 1 run allowed in the last 4 games. We were 1 up at the break. This has been a successful 2nd half so far for sure.

The Rangers' 11 game win streak last season ended with a loss at home to the DisAstros. But we won the next two games of that series. So yeah, it was 13 of 14 before we went to Anaheim and lost two of three. It broke a string of 8 consecutive series won.
Oddly, our consecutive series won streak is only three right now.

Adrian Beltre to DL; Chris Davis recalled
By Richard Durrett
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. As expected, Chris Davis was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take his place.
Grade 1 is the least severe category of strains.
Beltre, 32, was running hard to third base in the fifth inning after Michael Young's double and felt the hamstring grab as he closed in on the bag.
"I just hope it's not as bad as it felt," Beltre said after Friday's 12-2 win over Toronto.
Beltre said the hamstring felt like it was cramping every time he moved it.
The third baseman leads the Rangers with 76 RBIs and is second in the American League in that category. He has 49 extra-base hits, tied for the most in the league, and is fifth in total bases at 196. Beltre has 20 home runs, just behind team-leader Nelson Cruz. He is second on the team with a 3.6 WAR and is at or near the lead among third baseman in a number of defensive categories. He leads all third baseman in total chances and putouts and has improved the overall infield defense with his ability to take hits away at third base.
Beltre is eligible to come off the DL on Aug. 7. The Rangers expect him to miss two to three weeks with the strain.
Davis is batting eighth and playing third base Saturday night versus Toronto.
Davis, 25, has blistered the ball in Triple-A Round Rock with a .368 average to go along with 24 homers and 66 RBIs in 48 games played. He has 58 strikeouts and 11 walks and has a 1.229 OPS. Davis has played third base and left field during his latest stint in the minors. He was taken out in the fifth inning of Friday's game shortly after Beltre hobbled to the dugout following the injury.
Over his past 26 games at Triple-A, Davis has hit .400 with 14 homers and 34 RBIs with 15 multihit games. He's played just 48 of the team's 100 games, yet his 24 homers are tied for fourth-most in the Pacific Coast League.
Rangers manager Ron Washington has another option at third besides Davis. He could opt to put Young back there. Young played the position for two seasons before Beltre was signed this offseason. Young gets most of his at-bats as the designated hitter, but said Friday that he's ready to play third if needed.
Beltre signed a five-year, $80 million contract with a vesting option for a sixth year with the Rangers in the offseason. He had a calf strain that sidelined him for part of spring training, but he's been a very durable player for most of his career, including this season. Beltre was the only Ranger to have played in every game in 2011, including 99 starts in those 100 games.
"He's a huge part of our team," Young said moments after Friday's game. "He's having a great year. He's a great player, great teammate and we want to get him back in there as quickly as possible. We'll have to find a way to chip away and pick up the slack. It's not easy, but unfortunately sometimes that's part of the game up here. Sometimes you lose valuable players for a stretch. We just hope this is a very small stretch. Hopefully, he gets back as quickly as possible and we can get him back where he belongs, playing third in the middle of this lineup."
Richard Durrett covers the Rangers for ESPNDallas.com.

To be serious for a second, I went back to check last year's Rangers thread to see when I started counting down our magic number. And it just so happens that I started it after the Rangers got their 58th win of the season (we were 58-41). And now this year, we have just won our 58th game to move to 58-43.
So why not? Magic number is also 58.

done deal..
Sources: Rangers deal Tommy Hunter
By Richard Durrett
ESPNDallas.com
The Texas Rangers acquired 36-year-old Koji Uehara in exchange for infielder Chris Davis and right-handed pitcher Tommy Hunter, according to sources. The deal has not yet been announced by either club.
The Rangers also get $2 million back from the Orioles, according to sources.
He has thrown 7 1/3 innings against the Rangers' AL West opponents this season and has allowed one run on three hits with nine strikeouts and no walks. He hasn't faced the Rangers in 2011.
Davis, 25, was the club's fifth round pick in 2006. He's consistently hit at Triple-A, but hasn't been able to translate it consistently at the big league level.
Uehara, who has closer experience, is making $3 million this season on a contract that includes a vesting option for $4 million in 2012 if Uehara pitches in 55 games. He's already appeared in 43, so it looks likely that option would kick in barring injury.
He is 1-1 with a 1.72 ERA in 47 innings with the Orioles this season. Uehara has 62 strikeouts to only eight walks in that span. The right-hander has held left-handed batters to a .146 average, while righties aren't doing much better at .171.
He has similar numbers home and away with his ERA higher on the road at 1.80 (it's 1.67 at Camden Yards), but opponents are batting just .155 against him on the road (.151 at home).
Uehara had 13 saves in 2010 despite a two-month stint on the disabled list, so he can close games if needed.
Hunter, who turned 25 earlier this month, was taken in the supplemental first round by the Rangers in 2007 (54th overall). He was 13-4 with a 3.73 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) for the Rangers in 2010 and was expected to start the season in the rotation until a strained groin forced him to the disabled list. By the time he returned, the Rangers' rotation was set and Hunter was pitching out of the bullpen. He is 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA in 15 1/3 innings this season with the Rangers.

a little info..
Rangers look to Uehara for relief
July, 30, 2011
7:09 PM ET
With the acquisition of reliever Koji Uehara from the Orioles Saturday afternoon, the Rangers are the latest team to wheel and deal before the trade deadline.
The Rangers had to give up a lot (Tommy Hunter and Chris Davis) to land Uehara, but the deal should definitely help them improve a floundering bullpen.
Entering Saturday, the Rangers’ relief corps was in the bottom five among American League teams in ERA, opponents' batting average, save percentage and strikeouts per nine IP.
Rangers Bullpen AL Ranks
ERA 4.42 11th
Opp BA .258 11th
Save pct 63.4 T-10th
K per 9 6.99 11th
>> Entering Saturday
At the minimum, Uehara should help the strikeout numbers.
He is averaging 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings pitched (fifth-best among AL relievers), and his 62 strikeouts are second-most among AL relievers.
Uehara also doesn't walk many hitters. His 7.75 K/BB rate this season is best among AL relievers (Mariano Rivera is second at 7.20).
In his career as a reliever (past two seasons), he's struck out 117 hitters and walked 13 in 91 innings. Last season after July 31, Uehara struck out 38 hitters and walked none in 27 2/3 innings.
Koji Uehara This Season
Ranks Among AL Relievers
K/BB 7.75 1st
K 62 2nd
K per 9 IP 11.9 5th
>> Entering Saturday
Uehara is also very hot as of late. He hasn’t surrendered a run in his last 13 games (15 IP). During that stretch, he has yielded only five hits while striking out 23 hitters and walking two.

Not Ranger related, but still baseball related...over the weekend, in the mail I got my recently ordered 1991 World Series dvd's. Every game in its full tv broadcast. And that means the full pregame and postgame. Everything except the commercials.
I was 6 years old and this was the first World Series I watched. Or at least I don't remember the '90 WS if I saw any of that. I remember seeing a lot of Braves games on TBS that season, and liking them because of that familiarity. So I was rooting for them (as much as a 6 yr old can) against the Twins. What a time to be introduced to the game of baseball. That series still is the best WS I have ever seen, and is absolutely one of the best WS of all time. It doesn't get much better than the "And we'll see you tomorrow night!" call by Jack Buck after the Kirby Puckett walk-off HR in Game 6. And of course, the 10 inning shutout by Jack Morris in Game 7. Just a ridiculous series that was. 5 games were decided by one run; 3 games went to extra innings; 5 games decided in the home team's final at-bat. Both teams were in last place the year before. Imagine in 2012, the Mariners and Astros meeting in the WS. That's pretty much what it would have been like.
Since the Rangers have the night off, I'll have to watch a game of that series tonight. It only cost me $20 for the entire dvd set, so I think it was well worth it.

It's sorta like a NBA coach benching a star player to start the 4th quarter because he played shit defense in the 3rd. Every player has to be held accountable. No excuses. Elvis is normally excellent defensively. So when you see him make all these errors, then you have to wonder if it's a mental thing. He's not just making one or two errors. It seems like he makes an error every single night now. I'm more than willing to have Blanco replace Andrus for one game if it gets Elvis' head in gear. Hell, you don't even have to keep him out the whole game. Wash could insert Elvis in the 7th or something. Just don't start him.

As long as I can remember the Rangers have absolutely owned the Indians. This goes back to when Charlie Hough was pitching.

Yeah..that might be a good idea, but is this the right time? I mean, as close as this division is right now, I don't know if taking one of our mainstay starters out would be a great move. Though I could be wrong.
crofl
Wash would have no problem doing that even if it is a pennant race considering that, not too long ago, he rolled out a lineup with Quintinilla, Teagarden, Blanco, and Murphy all at the same time

why should i be worried? Texas scores alot of runs...thats what they do. I'll be worried when you guys go in a frenzy and hold teams to 1-2 runs. Just like you should worry if the Angels start scoring more then 5 runs. :lol

uh I guess you don't remember the Rangers' 12 game win streak a few weeks back. Here are the Rangers' scores from July 10 just before the All Star break to July 19, the last day before the streak ended (to the Angels):
W 2-0
W 5-0
W 4-0
W 5-1
W 3-1
W 7-0
And there was another shutout a few days before those listed. And I already know your first response will be "well look at the AAA offenses they faced! :lol"...well I don't see any other teams shutting those teams out 2-3 times in a row. I don't see any other teams shutting ANY teams out three games in a row. Aren't the Rangers close to the MLB lead in shutouts? :lol

Seems as though it's either black or white with you. We're not wanting to hear that they "own." You say you're not worried about them, and that doesn't make any sense, considering they're ahead of you in the division. Honestly, we don't care what you think. And laughing at any lead is ignorant. Will you still be laughing if we have that one game lead at the end of the season when your Angels stay home and we're in the playoffs?

OK...agree about you not talking shit. But don't say the Angels aren't supposed to be this close. They have a phenomenal pitching staff, and when that's the case, you're always right there.

Honestly thought we were going to have our asses handed to us. Tomlin was killing us till the 8th. I thought he'd finish a complete game shutout. As soon as he gave up two baserunners and they took him out, I knew we had a shot.

Best game of the season for me to attend. Got to see the huge 8th inning comeback to keep us in the division lead. And also got to witness hits #1999 and 2000 of Michael Young's career. Congrats to the face of the franchise!

I've got a bunch of games I have tickets to towards the end of August. The 22nd and 24th vs the Red Sox; 27th vs Angels; and 31st vs Rays. That right there is a huge homestand.
We play the Angels 7 times before the end of August. And chances are Beltre won't play in any of them. I sure would like to have him not only in the lineup, but out on the field defensively. :depressed
