Weaver seems to get frustrated easily. That makes his season even more impressive. Anytime Weaver doesn't throw the perfect pitch or someone hits a rocket off him, he seems to break down mentally, at least on the surface. I guess he hasn't had too many negatives this season to get frustrated over. But you'd imagine his competitiveness would get tempered by composure considering how good he's been all season long.

No doubt in my mind that Colby Lewis needs to be skipped a start. I don't care who they start in his place. Bring someone up from AAA. Start a bullpen guy to get through a few innings and then play merry-go-round with relievers. His next start would be against the Red Sox in Fenway. He is killing this team right now and has got to figure something out in the last month. And it could start with getting a few days extra rest.

WTF was Mathis thinking? He could have picked that ball up and thrown out Andrus so easily. That wasn't a good bunt by Andrus; it was lucky. Andrus wasn't even close to first when Mathis got to the ball.

And I'll take it for one start. I'll take 4 innings from Feldman, 5 would just be a bonus. I really don't care. We need Lewis to be sharper in the last few weeks. And this shit isn't gonna cut it. I know that Colby is much better on the road, but enough is enough with him. Game 6 of the ALCS was a long time ago.

I just saw this article:

Harrison is being skipped and Feldman is starting on Tuesday vs TB. Exactly. But they should have done it with Colby instead.

somebody suggested that Wash go with a 6 man rotation, throwing Feldman in the mix, to give some of these younger guys some rest since they've pitched so many innings this year.
I like this idea instead; throwing Feldman in there occasionally to give somebody a rest

I still think this series was a win for the Angels. Like I said before the series started, I think the Rangers needed a sweep more than the Angels needed two.

It's sad because i think it could be a kick ass series between two evenly matched teams. Not that Washington is a genius by any means, but he trumps Sciosa in spades.
Would have loved to have seen how last nights game would've turned out if Weaver was pulled after the 5-4 lead in the 6th. Good Ranger bats vs relievers and vice versa when Angel at plate.
Props to both Angels and now Rangers for punking the Skunkies in the playoffs.
Lets at least have that policy continue!

The Texas Rangers call up Leonys Martin
Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Monday 29 August 2011 at 6:15 pm
The Rangers have called up 23-year old lefty swinging CF Leonys Martin. They just signed him earlier this year and started him out in the minors. Martin played in 73 games in Rookie+AA+AAA-ball for the Rangers and he was 89 for 302 (.295 avg, .783 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 4 homers, 42 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. The Rangers aren’t calling Martin up to sit him on the bench, so look for him to share time in CF with Endy Chavez.

Adrian Beltre to return Thursday
ESPNDallas.com
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers are satisfied that third baseman Adrian Beltre's Grade 1 left hamstring strain is healed.
Beltre is scheduled to start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday in the final game of the homestand.
Rangers manager Ron Washington said Beltre can expect to be rested at times in September.
"He'll get a day every now and again, knowing how much we need him for the last month,'' Washington said.
For the better part of four months, Beltre was an iron man in the Rangers lineup.
But he had to go to the disabled list on July 23 when he injured his hamstring running the bases.
While going through rehab work, Beltre tweaked the injury again on Aug. 6. He's missed 36 games and the Rangers are only four games over .500 in his absence.
At the time of his injury, Beltre was the only Rangers player to appear in all 100 games and ranked second in the league in RBIs and doubles.
Beltre has been on a rehab assignment since Monday with Triple-A Round Rock and is expected to return to Rangers Ballpark on Wednesday.
Randy Jennings covers the Rangers for ESPNDallas.com.

Since then he has 5 Division titles and a 10-19 playoff record to show for them.
2-5 series record, punked in 1st round 3Xs.
Unless Texas just collapses against the Sox and Rays the rest of the way, they should cruise to Division. You know any game leads the Angels have in head to head will bring on MultiSciosa to the rescue.

Not just Scosia, but any MLB mngr who overly clings to the old macho bullshit notion that you must milk your starter who has worked his ass off and left you with either a shut out or a game lead one more inning.
Middle and end of game relief has been successfully utilized since Sparky Anderson did it with the Reds. Maybe before then, altho i think the 1960:lols still clung to the arm ruining notion.
If you care Axe, click on the game by game log for Weavs and check out Earned Runs allowed each game and compare with his record:lol . Haren behind of course, but not all that much. Witness tonights game. He gave you 7 solid and to me looked very gassed by the end of 7. Bring in two relievers you asstard Sciosa like all the successful mgrs do.

I've always been a big fan of the manager who lets his starters finish the inning. Obviously if the game is getting out of hand you take him out, but if he's in a jam and protecting a small lead I've always thought it's right to leave him in there and give him the chance to get out of it. Then you bring in the reliever the next inning

Since I'm an expert at taking away wins from Weaver, why not add Haren too:
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that if Scioscia left Haren in the game and he gave up the lead himself, you would have posted the same thing.
Over 100 pitches, gave up two straight hits, Carp a lefty bat coming up and has been one of the better hitters for the Mariners in August, with Downs being one of the best lefty relievers in all of baseball all season long especially against lefty bats, and that was a questionable move?
Sometimes the right move, or the smarter move based on odds of the situation, doesn't yield a good result.
edit: I just read your other post. I guess you're more upset for him letting Haren go back out for the 8th. Sorry, disregard. My bad.

4th inning Angels up 6-3.
How does men on 1st and 3rd for MN with the batter going:
B. Revere grounded into fielders choice to 1B result in bases loaded, nobody being put out yet no error on the play?
Check swing grounder that just kind of went into no mans land between 1B-2B-Pitcher? That would have been a single.
Next batter up Plouffe the espn stike zone deal shows pitches 2 & 3 nearly smack dab in the middle of the strike zone yet called balls. Is that thing accurate? I know sometimes balls at or just off the corner are called incorrectly but near the middle of the strike zone?

Yeah...you guys can't afford to fall behind any more at all. End of the season is coming up..you need to cut it down so a sweep in the end gives you a chance. It's going to come down to the last week. Honestly, I like our chances..we've played well against all the teams we have left. Hoping for a big game from Oakland tonight.

Hopefully the A's can hold their 5-1 lead on the Tigers in the 9th inning and not choke like the White Sox did last night. We'd be one game back of Detroit if that holds.
Meanwhile, I can't wait until Cruz is back in the lineup. We'll be fully healthy for the first time in forever. What's the ideal playoff lineup look like?
Kinsler, 2B
Andrus, SS
Hamilton, CF
Young, DH
Beltre, 3B
Cruz, RF
Napoli, C
Murphy, LF
Moreland, 1B
Obviously the bottom could be ordered differently. And Beltre could move back into the cleanup role. But I don't think you can put your best hitter all the way down to #5. And Young is our best hitter.
But if the Rangers have that lineup ready to go for the ALDS, I'll be stoked. That's a pretty sick #6-9 going on there.

time for some playoff roster speculation
here is mine
Lineup
Kinsler-2B
Andrus-SS
Hamilton-CF
Young-DH
Beltre-3B
Cruz-RF
Murphy-LF
Napoli-C
Moreland-1B
If they see a need to have additional right hand batters, they can put Napoli at 1B and Torrealba at C. Have Gentry and Chavez also available for depth and PR.
Starting Pitching
Wilson
Harrison
Holland
Lewis
I think they should always try to use Colby for road games, because with his tendency to give up homers, pitching at the Temple isn't exactly ideal. Plus he has experience in the playoffs and it was overshadowed due to the presence of Cliff Lee, but Colby was actually the Rangers best pitcher in last years playoffs. Hopefully he can regain that form.
Bullpen
Ogando
Tateyama
Oliver
Gonzalez
Uehara
Adams
Feliz
If a starting pitcher needs to be pulled early, insert Tateyama or Ogando.
Use Oliver and Gonzales specifically as left hand specialists.
Uehara, Ogando, and Adams rotate as 7th and 8th inning specialists.
Feliz to shut the door.
Everything rests on the shoulders of Colby and Holland. If they both can consistently make it through 6 innings without allowing the game to get out of reach, I like the Rangers chances at postseason success...

So we can clinch tomorrow, but not with a win, since we play a couple hours before the Angels. I hope both the Rangers and Angels win tomorrow so that we can clinch with a win on Saturday. Gonna get tickets for that game to go along with the ones I already have for Sunday.

Hell fuck yeah..I was going to go to bed all depressed, thinking we couldn't gain a game tonight...forgot the Angels were playing. NIICCCEE!! I don't care when we clinch..as long as we do it before the Angels series..I'd love to see how the Angels play knowing they can't win the division. I know they'll probably still be playing for the Wild Card, but it'll be nice going into the series in "Who's Your Daddy?" mode.

Me too. Don't get me wrong. I'm not "cheering" for the Angels. Just following the gameday on MLB.com not caring that much. Either way, I plan to get tickets for tomorrow.

If you have MLB network, turn it on. They have been showing periodic live coverage of A's-Angels and even have a cam at our ballpark. They just said that if Oakland wins, they will have coverage of our celebration.

Game was crazy...I was watching it and we were down 2-1...had to go into town, so I got a couple of things together, grabbed my keys, got in the car, listened to one song, turned on the game, and we were ahead 7-2...I swear it couldn't have been 10 minutes and we had scored 6 runs...

It was less than 10 mins. I think 8 straight runners reached base. Everybody and their momma was getting hits off Felix. :lol
And then Young delivered the KO by hitting a line drive right at Felix's forearm that knocked him out of the game. Even before our big inning, we had two hits every inning. We just couldn't get runs home. Once we finally did, it was like an avalanche. :lol

how awesome would it be if both Beckett and Shields would pitch tomorrow? they both last pitched on Monday, and I'd say thats very possible, as it would be do-or-die tomorrow. cant hold anything back.

I'm pretty sure neither would start. However, I'm even more sure that both would be made available late in the game in case it's coming down to the wire.

Both threw over 100 pitches. It's not impossible either is used (more likely in relief if necessary), but start on 2 days rest after 100+ pitches??
Not likely.
