You flatter me.

I have to give you credit where credit is due, though. You really played the "mentally weak/you're taking this too seriously/stop getting emotional because I have an opinion" angle throughout this entire conversation, even though it wasn't really working.

Everybody has their off days.

Heh, the only thing that is missing from this conversation is the consumation of Godwin's law.

Source?

Several sources. Nolan introduced the prologue before it was shown early to critics in LA and acknowledged in his introduction that there was still some tweaking and ADR (additional dialog recording) to do. Consensus is that the audio problems were unavoidable with the combo of accent, the timbre of Hardy's voice, and the mask.

Well

What Happens in the Dark Knight Rises Prologue
The prologue opens Commissioner Gordon talking about Harvey Dent’s death, and how he believed in him. Screen fades black and reopens to a team of mercenaries approaching a plane with two prisoners in tow. The prisoners are hand cuffed and black bags are set over thier heads. The soldiers talk to what seems to be a investigative agent that has been searching for Bane. They converse about the prisoners possible connection with Bane.
The investigator’s team have a plane ready to take off and the two prisoners are thrown into the plane. As the plane reaches a higher altitude the landscape shows a rain forest type of terrain that makes you think they are somewhere in South America.
The lead investigator starts to interrogate the two prisoners and threatens that the first person to talk gets to stay on the plane. One prisoner is dragged on the floor over the plane’s doorway to have his head hanging out and the investigator threatens him to talk, after the prisoner goes silent the investigator fires a gun next to head and says he is dead. (a bluff to scare the second prisoner into talking)
When the second prisoner is dragged into position, the investigator asks how is it that Bane’s men are so tight lipped. The first prisoner speaks and the hood is removed revealing Bane himself. (The south american accent Tom Hardy has sounds pretty decent) The investigator wants to know why Bane would let himself get captured and it turns out he came on board to find out what the investigators knew about him, as well as to identify the presence a defector/unwilling member of his organization that is now in the investigator’s hands.
Above the plane flys a even larger transport plane, Bane’s soldiers repel down to take over the smaller plane. There is a shoot out and Bane breaks free of his binds. There are now large tow cables hooked up to the tail end of the plane and Bane’s assault team plant explosives to take out the rear section of the plane leaving a hole straight into the interior. The smaller plane is dragged in such a way where the nose dives down and wind shear rips both of the wings off.
Somehow a body bag is lowered from the transport plane in through the tail section hole of the dragged plane. There is a unconscious man in the bag, and Bane takes the defector’s arm and jams a needle into it, he starts a blood transfusion between the defector and the man in the body bag! The man in the body bag appears to have come to life, and speaks to Bane briefly. A Harness is attached to Bane and he grabs hold of the defector. Explosives go off and the two are propelled out of the tail section to watch the smaller plane explode and hurdle back to the ground.
The screen fades to a collage of clips, and we see Catwoman on the Bat Pod, A new Bat Vehicle (Possibly the Batwing) hovering in a street. Batman and Bane fighting on the steps of what looks like Gotham’s City Hall and finally we see Bane walk away with Batman’s mask possibly removed from Bruce Wayne and it’s condition is broken in the grasp of his hands.
The screen fades black and displays a blue shattered glass Batman logo

I was not a fan of Bane's accent (nothing about it hints at South America) and I think the look of him isn't translating so well in motion, but I saw it on the low res, poorly lighted bootleg. So, who knows. I think Bane was a poor choice to begin with but we'll see. I'm still thinking Deadshot might be connected in some way, maybe via JGL.

I desperately want to see the prologue, but it didn't screen early in New Orleans and I don't know if I'll have enough time in upcoming weeks to justify shelling out IMAX prices for a Mission Impossible sequel I'm not that excited about. Especially not if my limited time and money force me into a decision between MI: Ghost Protocol or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Although, since movie theaters are bastards and TTSS isn't currently playing in any of the places I'll be spending the next month and a half, that may not be an issue.

all I know is compared to BB and TDK; TDKR is going to be "different" just has a different feel than the previous two. I have trust in Nolan but I think this movie is going to change the definition of what a Batman movie is...and that will take time for fans to adjust to.

No I did not see it in IMAX but that doesn't matter to me, that is like saying "did you see that in 3D, did you see that CG in the movie, etc"; those things are used as sugar coating if done correctly, they don't make a movie for me.

Overall the bank heist was a better overall scene, everything from how the Joker takes out all of his accomplices (bus) to his reveal. Prologue to Prologue TDK > TDKR; but Bane as a villain should be great and not going to hype myself to make a movie the greatest ever before seeing it, like you have Lefty.

Also another thing I'm not going to watch each trailer for TDKR multiple times when they come out in HD because I made that mistake with TDK and was really upset with a lot of the dialogue edits (for example, "here's my card").

Also I'm hoping, really hoping during the football scene that they don't have a lot of dialogue if any for the players, again, I really hope that scene fits in with the rest of the movie...

yeah lefty needs to kinda cool it on the whole TDKR > TDK talk cause that highly unlikely. Not saying TDKR isn't gonna be absolutely amazing, but TDK was iconic and the Joker was one of the greatest characters of all time imo

the thing is, not only is Lefty saying this stuff. I've been hearing that a number of critics and people in the loop are basically saying the same things lefty has been saying, and that people are going to be quite suprised with TDKR, many people saying Bane = or > Joker, and that this is going to be Christopher Nolan's true masterpiece (which is saying a hell of a lot with movies like TDK, Memento, and Inception on his resume).

Will it all be true? We will have to wait and see for ourselves, but I'm pretty confident that Nolan will really come through beyond most of our imaginations on this one, as he always seems to.

I feel like knowing this is the end for the series under Nolan, it sort of means that the story won't have much room to run. I mean, what don't we already know? Batman comes back after Bane destroys the city, finds out it's a plan carried out by Ra's al Ghul's daughter, gets his back broken and taken to the Lazarus Pits, comes back and teams up with Catwoman and inspires the city to fight back via some kind of guerilla war campaign...I just don't know what to be excited about anymore cuz TDK just felt like it had so many more directions to go. :(

pretty underwhelming trailer. The football part looks retarded

how could the movie be called The Dark Knight RISES but at the same time "the legend ends"? Could someone educate me?

In the comics Bane breaks Batman's back, so that might be where 'the legend ends' comes from and the rises part of the title is Batman coming back to kick his ass probably.

so then the legend doesn't really end. I'm still confused. The only way I can make any sense of it is if the movie is called rises because he rises up when Bane comes around but in the end he gets killed (the legend ends). OR he just gets his ass kicked and there's gonna be another movie entirely where he comes back to beat Bane (but then the legend wouldn't end here)

Pretty certain "Legend ends" is a reference to this from being the last in the Nolan series, while the "Rises" is a reference to what goes on in the final film.

The film hasn't really got any secrets in the main plot. You know that Bane is gonna dominate batman and then Batman is gonna somehow recover and beat the shit out of bane. Some other guy will die like gordon or alfred to make it all sad etc.

It's gonna be awesome, i'm just not too high on Bane tbh.

I think in the end, Joker will still be remembered more for the incredible acting job done by Ledger, but Bane will be remembered for being an absolute BAMF.

Not sure why people have much issue with the voice, I liked it. Kinda reminds me a bit of Anton Chigurh (or however its spelled). Had a very sinister, but articulate sound to it.

I think I am going to like Bane more than Joker actually.

that's probably what's most likely and what I hope to be the case. I just didn't like the wording "The Legend Ends", why didn't they just say "The Trilogy Ends" or "The Fight Ends" or something to that nature?

Ambiguity builds suspense. Nolan clearly wants us to believe Bane is Batman's equal with some of the leaks (the animated gif of Bane carrying the broken Bat mask) and the taglines (of which you mentioned).

You can read Knightfall (Bane), it won't spoil the story of the movie

There seems to be No Man's Land elements too (no Bane in that story arc, but enough spoilers in there though)

Also a little The Dark Knight Returns in there.

Bane was...kinda in No Man's Land. The story arc had a novelization (written by Greg Rucka), that I wouldn't know about but for a trip to the library a few years back, and he was in that. Ker-shrug.

The novelization's a pretty good read, if you ever find a copy of it. Luthor shows up in it as well, and he and Bane both have semi-relevant (but non-crucial) appearances, and it expands on the GCPD's story as well.

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer breaks iTunes record

Quote:
BURBANK, CA, December 23, 2011 – The new trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” smashed the record for most combined downloads through the iTunes Movie Trailers site (www.itunes.com/trailers (http://www.itunes.com/trailers)) and the iTunes Trailers iOS app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The trailer went online at 10:00 Monday morning, December 19, and was viewed more than 12.5 million times in its first 24 hours, breaking the previous record by well over two million. The trailer can be viewed in HD at http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/w...rkknightrises/ (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/thedarkknightrises/).

Opening on July 20, 2012, “The Dark Knight Rises” is the much-anticipated epic conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The film’s international all-star cast is led by Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) in the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Reprising their roles from both “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) plays Lucius Fox.

The film is directed by Nolan from a screenplay by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull are the executive producers, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. “The Dark Knight Rises” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman created by Bob Kane.

A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures, “The Dark Knight Rises” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

I felt the same way you did until this weekend when I caught the new Mission: Impossible movie at the IMAX in Houston. Prior to the start of the movie, they played a 10 min preview of the new dark knight. (Some have said online it is the first ten mins of the movie but who knows.) It was an airplane hijack scene and it was FANTASTIC. The scene introduces the Bane character and it is jaw dropping. It has the typical Nolan characteristics of the gritty, raw, not-sure-if-this-is-really-a-batman-film feel to it. I think anyone who tries to compare this one to the previous one is going into it with the wrong mindset. This will be a different animal and I don't think anyone will be disappointed. The one thing this prologue proved: This version of the Bane character is smart, fearless and generally one bad mutherf*cker.

Christopher Nolan knows that The Dark Knight Rises, his third and final film starring Christian Bale as Batman, is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year. But the spoiler-averse director is reluctant to reveal too much about his work before its July 20 release. “So what can I not tell you about my film,” he says by way of the greeting during a break from editing Rises in Los Angeles.

Even so, Nolan did expand upon our first preview of Rises (which took you to the set and offered some insight into the movie’s story and themes) and shared some intel about Batman’s latest cinematic adversaries. First, there’s Bane (played by Inception alum Tom Hardy), a cunning, hulking terrorist with a menacing respirator-mask and a small army bent on sacking Gotham City. “He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention,” says Nolan.

Hardy’s Bane has another defining characteristic that perhaps you’ve heard about, or perhaps have heard and didn’t understand: a curiously accented voice that’s further muffled by the rogue’s high-tech muzzle. “It’s a risk, because we could be laughed at — or it could be very fresh and exciting,” says Hardy, adding that the voice he developed was influenced by many factors, including a desire to honor the comic book character’s brains and Caribbean heritage. “The audience mustn’t be too concerned about the mumbly voice,” says Hardy. “As the film progresses, I think you’ll be able to tune to its setting.”

And then there’s Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle, the latest incarnation of Batverse femme fatale Catwoman. Nolan’s take on the character is no campy sexpot or frazzled ghoul but a shifty cipher, calloused survivor, and world-class criminal. Says Nolan, “She has a very strong way of protecting herself and those she cares about, which implies an underlying darkness.” Hathaway says she prepared for the role by reading the comics and studying the moves of Hedy Lamarr and Jean Harlow, the two screen legends that inspired the original conception of the comic book villainess.

The actress also found herself a trainer. “I had to physically transform,” says Hathaway, calling from London, where she’s currently shooting Les Misérables with Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. “Chris sat me down at the beginning and said, ‘Joseph Gordon-Levitt did all of his own fighting in Inception. That one zero-gravity fight? He trained for two months.’ I basically left his office and went to the gym and just came out about five minutes ago.” http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/catwomanpromoart.jpg

Also, it seems rather arbitrary and unnecessary to your position to suggest that someone from the current cast needs to die in order to make The Dark Knight Rises a box office success. You could maintain your argument just by suggesting that Heath Ledger was a big enough martyr to over-inflate the critical and commercial success of the whole damn franchise from here on out.

That's true what you say, but people have very short term memories these days. I will be very interested to see how TDKR does relative to every block buster this year, considering the amazing success for the previous movie. And what I said wasn't arbitrary.

You decided that Ledger's death was the reason the movie was over hyped before it was even released, and that has remained your opinion ever since. I liked it. Still think the football field scene looks RETARDED, but liked everything else. I think the emotionless feel is what they're going for and I like it. Also, every single freaking trailer has a cheesy line at the end these days. I don't even think anything of it anymore.

From Empire Magazine:

Empire has never before seen filmmaking on this scale. This is indisputably jaw-dropping. Huge. And it's no boast to say that to witness such a spectacle is a precious rarity in the early 21st century. This stadium set-piece is more reminiscent of the genuine cast-of-thousands era of Ben-Hur — and we're thinking as much of the 1925 version as William Wyler's Chuck Heston-fronted '59 one. These days we're more used to scale segments built on studio lots or in cavernous, green-walled soundstages with digitally cloned CG extras in the stalls. It's funny how for years we were all so impressed by Hollywood's new digital, reality-replicating flourishes when, all along, they were nowhere near as extraordinary as, well, reality. Nobody makes movies like this anymore. Or rather, nobody else...

This.

There is really no substance with the Avengers. Its just a stand alone movie with no regard for a good story or plot. Its just a summer flick to pass the time.

Nolan movies are always story driven and well scripted.

Avengers= a movie you will buy and watch for the fun of it
TDNR= movie with a serious plot that will keep you dugged in throughout.
