Hill for Leonard? Hmmmm ... I have to digest this trade. Does it make the Spurs better next season? My first reaction is that it doesn't.
With Neal and Anderson to take up the slack I don't think they lose much. It a decent risk to take. At least they are trying to upgrade the team defensively.

The Spurs needed a defensive SF - not one who scores and would be the 4th option behind TP, Manu and Splitter/Duncan. Personally, I think Singleton's defense was just about as good but came w/ a 3pt shooting threat but I'll take Leonard anyday.

The Spurs traded away Hill (a former late 1st round pick) for a pick in the teens...

Hill wasn't a point, we all know it. Neal's rise was Hill's demise.

Spot on.

Hill was incredibly valuable when he was the only bench player worth a damn as Roger Mason Jr was vomiting all over the court and Finley begging to be released.

After Neal stepped in and stepped up, and after Anderson showed promise . . . Hill's ceiling with this team was reached AND his contract was coming up for a new deal within 2 years

No question about that.

Neal came in and produced this past year. Hill at times seemed like he had regressed his overall game last year.

I'm ok with this trade, especially if Leonard can play defense like some have said he can. I think picking up Leonard shows that Pop might actually be serious about returning to Spurs Basketball as soon as possible.

He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers have since allowed him to further develop his game in Europe.

The Spurs had been actively trying to trade into the lottery, and wound up with a lottery-quality pick without even needing it to be in the lottery. Leonard is an athletic three that allows them to move Richard Jefferson (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/240295) for quarters on the dollar, and reload with an athletic forward who can rebound, score, and defend and who is ready to contribute now. He's got polish, ability, and resolve. He was underrated coming into the season, underrated coming into the draft, and fell all the way to the Pacers (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/IND) at 15.

The Pacers get a legit combo guard to play the two in George Hill. Brandon Rush (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/1622549) has not shown that he can play consistently at that spot. Paul George (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/1755181) can operate at the small forward position, and provide defense in relief of Danny Granger (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/555950), who is also rumored to be on the trade block. Hill can handle point guard duties if called on (though with Darren Collison (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/1685203) and A.J. Price (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/1685222) the Pacers aren't hurting for that) and will get to focus on offense for once after being asked to do supplementary things in San Antonio.

Once again, the Spurs come out looking shrewd and in command. Leonard's a great pick-up for a great price, but you have to think the Spurs will go guard later in the draft to replace their depth.

No. Just heard the other day that he's unlikely to come over, not just now, but probably for the duration of his career. Barac, who the Pacers also own the rights to, may be brought over before next season though.

I like that the Spurs got the 42nd pick back, so that between that and 29th, they should be able to add backup point depth and get another big. Cole and Johnson would be nice, but it's unlikely. They'll probably end up with one of Bertrans or Mirotic.

I'm with timvp on the trade, I need time to digest it. I like Hill a lot, but Leonard is the type of three this team has needed for a long time, minus his erratic outside shooting, though it's supposedly better than originally thought and improving.

He hasn't shown any interest in coming over so far. Maybe he didn't like the Pacers, or they didn't approach him right. But he's doing really well where he is, and I don't have any happy feeling about his desire to be in the NBA.

Not that happy with this. Hill, for all of his short comings, did much more good than bad. He was proven. He was a great "spur". They made a move that really can't help them win now and if that's the case, why take the risk on this guy who seems very limited by all accounts.

Spurs still have RJs fat ass contract which clogs up the SF spot anyways.

Hill wasn't going to start for the Spurs for the next 3 years w/ TP ahead of him. Leonard may end up starting THIS year. You get him, you upgrade the defense at the 3 (and 4 when Pop goes small ball) and you gain picks...this is a MASTERFUL deal.

Plus, Hill wins in that he gets a fighting chance at starting someday soon.

I know Senor Spur is happy about this one. "extremely aggressive when defending the perimeter and made some impressive plays rotating back to his man on the pick and roll." With an albatross wing and hands to rival Duncan's hopefully he's the perimeter defender we've been looking to develop since the last championship.

We kept # 29 too, bonus. Hopefully we don't draft '09 Finley.

I think this is a good trade for the spurs. I liked hill, but he was undersized as a defencive stopper. Ease up on the logjam at sg, and got some size and defence on the wing, like everyone wanted. Yay, no more neal or manu at sf. Anderson and neal can play sg, their natural positions.

Hi! I'm from Barcelona.
Lorbek have one more year but a small buy-out.
Seems that he will continue in Barcelona one more year and then go to the NBA.

His impact in the league could be similar than Scola, his game is quite similar. A little worst in the pick'n'roll but have more range in his jump, he can shoot threes. His post game is the best in all europe.

Gotta go with Hamilton. He could end up being an instant-offense type. Whereas Corey Joseph looked like a longer DJ Augustin, but with even less athleticism.

Joseph is nowhere near athletic to do anything near the rim in the NBA, but he's mature and good defender. Decent 3 shooter.

Hamilton is more of a score-from-anywhere type but with average athleticism.

I'd say Hamilton cuz he a typical size for his position.

However, his unique skill set actually hurt his placement here in SA as he wasn't a true PG and not aggressive enough as a SG to carve out a true role. He was also vastly overrated as a defender. I'm good with a high percentage roll of the dice with Leonard.

Spurs need to go JaJuan Johnson with the #29 pick, he is underrated and could hep right away, unless Jordan Hamilton fall to them somehow, also there some options to find backup PG like Darius Morris who has potential, but i prefer the JaJuan Johnson pick.

He is going to Boston, Johnson.

Since Dallas skipped on Bertans, I'm guessing we'll get him at 29.

I'd rather have Benson than Bertans...we need bigs who can play the 5 not the 3. We just drafted a 3 in Leonard (what would we do w/ 2 rookie SFs)?

Mavs trading Hamilton to Portland for Rudy. Portland using him to get Felton in the Miller deal.

Chicago at 28 is the biggest remaining hurdle for Bertans at 29. *crosses fingers*

Bertans' jump shot is rated a 10 by nbadraft.net, and he's a 6'10" SF.

Doesn't sound too bad if they go that route.

This late, it's talent, not need. Bertans may not come over immediately.
