Yeah, they are TOUGH. I just randomly ran into one of 'em when I was around level 20. It killed me like five times and I gave up. I looked up that specific priest on the skyrim wiki and it basically recommended ranged weapons, but I tried that and... Nope. The dude launches fireballs that just wreck shit. The guy I fought is next to a cliff. Apparently you can throw him off with your voice, he takes damage from the fall and gets stuck and then you just shoot arrows at him. But yeah, they're rowdy, no doubt the hardest fight I've had.

lucky for me the one i had to fight glitched so he sat there looking at me stupid while i was killing him...for the caster "bosses" i have a problem killing, i usually bring a companion along as a meat shield and then use shock attacks. ill also stack resistance potions to whatever spell he's casting.

also scrolls that you pick up through the temples help a ton. when your meat shield is taking hits, pop scroll of bane of undead and the dragon priest will start running around scared while youre hacking at him.

This game consumes my nights every night. I know a few ST guys and I are friends on Xbox Live so I'm sure you see me up all night every night after work.

I started a new character. Ditched my first one as a test run really. I think this Dunmer is around level 22 and I got his speech at 100 and am working on my smithing so I can create the dragon armor. Light version. I'll put the heavy on Lydia.

Only killed one dragon so far, the Whiterun one. I don't fast travel much, which lets me collect hides and level my archery. I have ran across 3 dragons who all just leave. I know one saw me cause I was having a battle with 3 Falmores or however you spell it. Starting to piss me off really. I don't know how to get their attention other than spraying arrows and shooting firebolts.

Getting my speech all the way up was great. I wear an amulet that gets me better prices on top of that so I stay rich.

My only complaint is that Giants are stronger than low level Dragons. That's insane. In my first playthrough I saw a Giant absolutely butcher a Dragon on 2 different occasions. In my mind NO Dragon, even the weaker green ones, should be weaker than any Giant.

I've seen weak dragons kill the Giants, they just take them up in the air and drop them :lol .. Try going back to the Whiterun place of the first dragon, I've killed 2 there... one particular dragon always left, he was just flying in circles until he just fled..


I think you have to be in the perfect spot for the dragon to attack, I usually try to get closer to the guards shooting arrows at it.. and once it attacks thats it.

The scenery is awesome, the leveling is great... kind of like a mix between Oblivion and Morrowind, the fighting is great, animations are great, but there is too few of different kind of enemies.

I've played RPG's on Nintendo/Genesis that had a greater variety in enemies. I'm afriad I'll buy it and get bored by the time I get to a high level.

all this crap has happened to me on the PC. i had a mage ice spear thingy hanging out of my ass for a couple of days.

worst bug ive encountered so far is during one of the last liberation of skyrim quests nobody is in the fort...and my last save is after i received the quest so now i cant complete the quest chain...

Smithing and enchanting seem to be pretty damn important, you can improve weapons and armor by like 50% or more, the highest rank I think is (legendary) but you can still improve beyond that with potions and fortify smithing gear.

Guys the new patch is bugged for PS3 and 360. Dragon's flying backwards.. all elemental magic on armor and resistances show up but are not actually working in combat.

For instance if you are wearing an amulet that gets to 10% better prices, you actually are not. I tested it and it's true. Bought a sword for 100 gold with 100 speech and had to pay 100 instead of 90.

You can find out what patch you have. While in game hit start, jump over to system, and at the bottom left in real small grey letters will say 1.1 or 1.2

You can get her after you kill the first dragon outside of Whiterun, when you go back to get your rewards and become the Thane she's waiting for you at the door...

I believe there's also another chick that can follow you at the manor in whiterun, you have to kick her ass in a bare knuckle fight and I think she will follow you if you wish to.. I had Lydia so I never tried it.. She can be helpful at times, but at others you wish you didn't have her because she either ruins your sneaking or she rushes enemies and can die...

with that said she can be helpful bait whenever you're trying to kill a strong dragon.

Lydia can be very helpful in tougher matches. Pretty much a distraction so the guy you are batting is busy beating on her :lol
At least that's how I use her. It's why it helps to put her in heavy armor. But pretty much I'm on stealth and she chills at home.

Yeah you need more dragon scales. That's all it takes to improve dragon armor.

The Daedric armor is the best. Sucks that's it only comes in heavy armor like Ebony armor. Dragonbone is second best and it's also heavy.

Didn't really like my 18 Mage with like 24 hours on it so I made a thief/archer/assassin/stealth wood elf the other day. Lvl 17 now with 18 hours. Just started the thieves guild and beat the first mission with the island mansion. Fun as shit tbh

You know that once you first get a follower, they don't level with you? If one gets Lydia at level five, her stats will be the same forever.

For people on PC, they can just press tilde, click on their follower, disable then enable them and they will be up to level.

Did not know that. I got Lydia early on and even in full Ebony Heavy Armor, she can maybe take 3-4 shots from a Giant. Funny enough though, the last shot always (and I mean always) sends her 200ft into the air and I have to play kick returner with her so I can heal her and she can tank again.

So I finally got this glitch that won't let me open a door, so I used ~ and typed a command that lets me get through the door, and so it worked, but the character I was speaking to had no voice -_-, and now that I have to get him out of riften, if he tries to talk to me or something I won't be able to know wtf is going on.

Not hating on consoles at all... just wanted to say, I have an XBOX 360 controller for the PC and tried using it for Skyrim... it sucks.

My brother has our XBOX 360 in his room and bought a copy for the Xbox... the controls suck there as well... I bet most console players stay away from the marksmanship skill. I'd put my money on the suckiest PC marksman agaist the best console marksman anyday.

Again, dont get me wrong, There are certain games that I MUST play on the console because its just a better control design...

I just dont know how anyone can justify playing this particular game on a console. Sure, the menu navigation is quite clumsy on the PC but thats easily fixed with mods that are out today. Nevermind all the highres tecture packs and character texture packs and all other kinds of mods that are already out for the PC version even before the Creation Set has been released!

Console players can never trully understand the depth of a TES game unless the next gen consoles support PC mods. Until then, they are really an inferior platform for this particular type of game. My brother has already seen some of the mods that I've installed and stared in awe at my glorious texture packs and other mods.

Those that are stuck with console version only, Im not hating on your console.... But if you get a chance to see this game on a PC that has the horsepower to run it properly, along with some of the mods that are already out there, you will be jelous.

I haven't had any issues lately except I fought Alduin at the top of the Throat of the World and the mofo wouldn't die, he took literally zero health damage. I looked it up and apparently there's a bug for that shit too, so I had to redo it and whoop his ass. Shit was annoying

A trap exists in the barrow by Ivarstead that swings a spiked gate at you. For some reason a crevasse exists right where it nudges up to rest, which a guy somehow got into. Not thinking I started hacking at him through the trap, knowing he was harmless.... then my warrior does a finishing move on the skeleton and it bugs outs, sticking me right behind the crevasse with no way to activate the trap... I spent five minutes trying to get my helper to go stand on the trap but it was too far away and mostly out of sight.

Not a huge loss or anything but damn was that annoying haha.

At first it seemed impossible cause there seemed to be like 30 guards hacking and throwing arrows my way. But there is some bridge I hide under and took out all the guards one by one using stealth. I have to do this everytime I have a mission in markarth.

TBH, you'd be suprised how much you would get owned if this game was multiplayer and you faced a mouse/keyboard archer.

Im seriously not talking shit.... It's a world of difference..... and your talking to a guy that uses a PC 360 Controler on alot of games... when appropriate...

This game isnt one of those if you want to be a true marksman.

I guess the easiest way to describe it is having a colonial musket vs a modern day sniper rifle..... Your so way outclassed its really not even funny.

Sniping from the shadows is easy.... When you get into hectic battles with just a bow, Mouse/keyboard rules in skyrim. I've pulled so many amazing shots with a mouse/keyboard you would think they where scripted or modified videos.....

I kill dragons in two shots with my self-enchanted bow, (I kill the weaker dragons in 1 shot) while they are in flight... I hit them in the head, neck or upper-torso about 80% of the time. Every once in a while, if they are flying at a wierd path because of the hieght Im at or if Im on a cliff, I might clip their tail, still kills them though.

Bottom line, I think I've only had 4 dragons, besides major boss dragons, actually land before I killed them (Im quite a high level though). Im not trying to hype of mouse/keyboard vs console controls.... Its just the way it is when it comes to archery in Skyrim.

Why don't the legions Legates die? I've finished the Stormcloak quests and they said there is still some legion camps scattered throughout skyrim and when I find them I can kill all the normal legion members but the Legates just fall to the floor like your companions do over and over again.

I think I had a similar situation, you have to say that you'll pay, or something, all I remember was I ended up talking to the Jarl and he apologized for the mistake and that it was forsworn at fault and yada yada.

Aw shit, that is the quest. I didnt want to give away any spoilers but that is it. The Forsworn should have claimed responsibility for your transgressions after you break out with them.

Did you fight alongside the Forsworn on the way out? If so, thats why you have a bounty. You can just waltz out the front door after the old guy is done with his speech to the city guards.

IMO the only advantage is if you're not sure which direction you want to go, it's not like you can save them and only use them on all the top level perks, you always gotta work your way up the tree.

I fucking wasted 4 perks just to get to the master destruction at half cost perk, but then before I got it, I finally got around to dual enchanting a set of armor, with mostly fortify destruction, game changer, now I don't even need any of those destruction perks :lol :bang

Save them shits until you know exactly what you want to do and where you want to go. I too, wasted a bunch of perks on destruction. A lot of times I'd hold onto an upgrade while waiting for a certain level; like as soon as archery leveled to 60, I had a perk in my back pocket to unlock the slow motion while zoomed in. Also, yeah, a lot of times you're building trees to get to a specific perk and will want to save up. I'm waiting to finish the thieves guild quest until my lockpick level is high enough to unlock the lockpicks never break perk. As soon as I reach that number, I'm going to dump like five or six upgrades into lockpick just to get to that one specific perk. Study those trees, plan what you'll want and spend/save accordingly.

spells cost XX% less, so you stack about 4 of those at around 28% each and there you go

I saved all my early perks when I didnt know what to do. Mostly for speech (which takes a long frickin time to level) and Destruction.

I dont agree that the Destruction tree is a waste once you get enchant to 100. With the fortify Destruction enchants and the Destruction tree perks, you are a mana machine. You never run out.

I tried hardest difficulty, and got killed five times in a row, barely affecting this stray horses hit points. And i keep accidentally sneaking during combat, its really starting to piss me off. i play on expert, and i save alot in case the AI difficulty jumps, which it does. make sure to always have a companion with you to soak up some of the damage. use your environment to your advantage...it def isnt a hack, slash, lol type of game, which makes it rewarding once you lvl and gain enough perks to roll through.

haha that happened to me too on that Western tower near Whiterun, I saw both of them were too close to me so I ran up the tower and arrowed the dragon... he'd come down and attack the giant who just pummeled it.. after a while the giant finished him off :lol so I went out and killed the giant, went better than in my earlier levels.

Finally got my shit returned and got a copy with an actual disc in the box. Been kind of avoiding the thread since then to not catch any spoilers. But this game is effin' boss, and worth the wait.

Put in about 8 hours so far I would guess, I'm level 7 with a Dark Elf battle mage. I'm on my way to whatever wack ass missions the Greybeards sent me halfway around the world for, and just killed my first solo dragon (second total, but the one in the Whiteguard tower fight didn't really count as I was just pot-shotting it with arrows).

Had to beat this dragon twice because the first time I killed it, it took Lydia out. So I re-loaded, told that bia to wait at the bottom of the mountain, then went up and took care of business myself. I didn't have much trouble taking it on solo, just loaded up on Anti-Fire gear and the shield of fire warding, used Healing to keep my health up when needed, and stunned it when it was on the ground with dragon shouts then just kept hacking away with my sword. Still like a 15 minute epic battle though.

I've been putting most of my perks into Destruction Magic and One Handed weapons, but it sounds from reading some of this like that may not work out too well in the long run. Seems to have been doing okay so far, though.

I'm level 27 I believe.. and I've been doing just about the same, I'm a redguard though, and it's worked for me.. I use a combination of melee and magic depending on the situation and I've had no trouble.. I have however toned it down with the destruction perks.

Lydia is fucking annoying; I just commanded her to stay in my house and do the cooking and cleaning, as the dumb cunt starts fights when I'm trying to do stealth attacks with the bow. Would have been better had the Jarl just given me an actual mule to put all my shit away on.

I disagree; the dragons are really easy to take out with destruction magic as long as you can find some cover to pop into and out of. I don't know how you wouldn't get constantly blasted by the fire/ice doing melee attacks.

See that's one of the reasons I've been doing destruction/melee mage/warrior kind of thing... when the dragon is flying I usually just hide behind something and do magic or arrows, when he lands I run up to him and start stabbing the hell out of it, if he decides to go up again I go for cover again.. usually one or two fire/ice attacks from a dragon won't kill me, it'll take more than that. Yeah I usually try to just melee the damn dragons when they land because if I hide.. lydia will fucking die :lol or village people or whoever is around, so I try to go at it and try to kill it as fast as I can so he doesn't end up killing a smith or something, it usually works.. I've killed blood dragons rather easy, but there's no way anyone can get close to a frost dragon.. within seconds you're inside it's mouth if you try to melee..

I don't think so, but there is a perk that allows you to cast rune spells a lot further. I've used this as a quasi-sniper tactic.

I only use long-range spells like firebolt against dragons where I can always attack from a distance from behind cover. A bow is a way better option for long distance attacks against every other enemy I have come across though. I used perks to strengthen the fire and ice spells (twice each) for dragon fights, but otherwise I only use the close-range versions. I definitely wouldn't go any farther up the destruction tree than getting ice and fire maxed out.

Thieves guild are the worse missions imo. 2nd character I will do them last so I can use the fast travel a plenty.

You just get the one option of saying "I don't have my old armour" over and over.

It's kinda strange that they'd give you new armour 15 minutes after they give you the nightingale armour (Which is only second to the Ancient Shrouded Armour from the Dark Brotherhood imo.)

See that's the thing :lol I was trying to do that. I did his first mission, which is get the ice wriath and come back.. and when I try to talk to the dude they just keep doing the same thing over and over, I'm going to mess with the loading points to see if something else happens.

Yeah, the one Draugr Death Overlord that I faced (in Volskygge) was a real bitch.

The first time I fought him I knocked his ass over with a shout, and then he got right up and returned the favor, then came and bashed my head in. I was like WTF :wow.

After about 10 failed attempts to beat him with melee tactics, I had to make him chase me back to a point where I could gain some high ground on him, then just picked him off with dual-flames and my bow.

Level 25 now. Finished the College of Winterhold quest and got the Morokei mask and Archmage Robes which make me a spell-slinging boss. Currently trying to pump my Enchanting and Smithing so I can amass a great fortune.

Anyone have trouble with storing stuff in the chest in the Archmages Quarters? That's considered a house after you earn it, right?

I'm doing the main quest line and I'm up to the part that I have to get the Imperials to meet with the SC's through the greybeards. Well, I can't talk to Ulrich or the other guy until I finish my stormcloak quest killing the ice wraith... a glitch. So I go do that and now I can't go any further. I talk to Ulrich, he tells me to talk to his guy. I talk to that guy and he tells me to talk to Ulrich, I talk to the Graybeards and those nikkers wont do shit until I talk to the other party... seriously WTF. SO I can't advance ANYMORE through the main quest line. Fuck you Bethesda.


tl;dr - finish your imperial/storm cloak quest before doing the main quest line.

7. Lots of times cannot absorb souls after killing dragons.

With all I posted, I still think Skyrim is easily one of the top 5 games I have ever played and worth the $60 it cost many times over. Honestly, I don't blame Bethesda too much for these bugs. A heavily-scripted game like Skyrim has to be incredibly difficult to do testing on with all the permutations on the orders the quests can be started and finished in. With new builds being delivered by the developers to the testing teams probably at least once a week, there is no way anyone is going to get 100+ hours of gameplay in to really stress it. It sounds shitty to release and let the millions of buyers be the ones to find a lot of the bugs, but I think there is no way to do a game of this size and complexity without having stuff like this in it on release. It would probably take forever to uncover lots of this stuff using their in-house teams and it would push the release dates back for a long time.

Oblivion was just like this the first year it was out too. I wonder if Morrowind was also (I never played it).

Adepts can train players to level 50, Experts to level 75, and Masters to level 90. Once your level reaches higher than a trainer, the option for training disappears. Unlike Oblivion, there is no means to be trained all the way to level 100 in a skill.

It was. And still is. The amount of buggy shit in Morrowind extends far and beyond your average "I can't sell this item" stuff. Start with no quest indicator and an incomplete map. People constantly give you the wrong or strange information, like "Go west and look for the grotto" and it's really south and a ruin. Flying enemies that are kicking your ass yet you can't hit with a sword no matter how hard you try. Quests disappearing off your menu. The list is nearly endless, at least for the unmodded standard version.

It kind of added to the charm though. Back then it was the most amazing game I'd ever played and I guess it made it feel more realistic. Some characters would probably be dumbasses about certain things, or at least ignorant, etc

i use the mage's circlet and it gets the job done, but im conjuration with a conjured bow so im out of the action most of the time.

If you play going through quests like the game was designed for then you're a lot less likely to see them. I went and just started raiding dungeons and exploring the game world without starting a lot of quests, so a lot of times I would go and find an item before doing the quest for it which would trigger bugs (for instance, the Finn's Lute bug or the Thieves Guild bug I mentioned earlier). Actually, any game you play in a different style from what the game was designed for (e.g., going back in levels, racing through them without shooting anything, etc) will reveal lots of bugs in virtually any game on the market.

Yeah, you're right that one specifically is independent of when you pick it up. There was another Finn's Lute bug when you picked it up early, but it must have gotten patched by the time I started playing the game. The thieves guild one definitely happens if you pick up the other rare items before the queen bee statue though.
