Wilder defends his title against Molina tonight in his first title defense. Anybody watching this?
Yeah. I caught it. It was like a voluntary bout. Being a title fight to your home state/city type of deal. Did what he had to do. Also scheduled to get some rounds in and test his wrist after the Stiverne fight. Dude bent the rods in his wrist. Lol.

That's nice, but posting a quote from him in the last few weeks isn't relevant. Ward balked publicly at the matchup when he might have had an opportunity, then he had a long layoff, and now he wants in when the guys who were active are already lined up to fight. He's going to have to find a way to get his foot in the door, but Canelo or Cotto are ahead of him in line now. That's just how it is. You have a serious rooting interest in Ward, and I don't care either way.
All that said, GGG had better take one of those big fights soon, or what Ward said above will start to resonate with everyone, and he'll get labeled a coward. Also we'll know more about Ward when he's had another fight. He looked rusty in his comeback, but it's good to see him fight again.

ward beats the hell out of ggg any day of the week including sunday. If ward looked rusty in his last fight, how did ggg look against a feather fisted Monroe? Ward was obviously more skilled than his opponent, but that mf was easily a hw on fight night and he stopped him.

As much as I love SOG, it was still Paul Smith. Slow, sloppy and undisciplined. Granted, Ward needed to just get back into the ring but whether he was close to being a heavyweight or not, it's still Smith. As far as Golovkin facing pillow hands Monroe, he looked great in the fight. You could obviously see that dude was taking shots just to walk him down. Fighters tend to do that when the know you can't hurt them and that's what happened with Golovkin and Monroe. At the end of the day, it was Willie Monroe.

Hopefully we have a solid 2016:
possible scraps:
thurman v Porter
SOG v Kovalev
batman v superman
canelo v GGG
maybe even Manny v Bradley, even though Manny got him twice.
Cant wait to see what Crawford's got going on.
Tonight's fight should be entertaining.
Not a big fan of Danny Garcia, but he made some good adjustments mid fight. He looked good tonight, but it's not like Guerrero is sugar ray.

Garcia did well. Faced an actual decent 147er even though Guerrero is not at he top of the class. Dude always comes to fight and applies good pressure. Thought Garcia handled it well but don't know how he'll fair against Thurman. I think he might get worked in that fight. Garcia has a pretty nice resume.

was a really good fight. Think it was second to Vargas Salido. But it was a good scrap. Judges were all 115-113 on a close fight. Some judge would have judged this fight 118-110 and I know people would have been pissed. It was close across the board. I had it a draw 114-114. Should be a rematch coming up.

I had it 115-113 but a draw would've been legit too. It was that close. I just feel Thurman landed the best big clean punches in the fight and when it's that close, those can swing it one way or the other.

yeah, if I had to choose a winner, I thought One Time landed the cleaner, sharper shots. Only way I saw Porter winning was to bully him for twelve rounds and he did. He has nothing to be ashamed of because of the loss. Keeps him where he is in the welterweight division. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if Porter got a title shot soon despite the loss. That's what you call a good loss.

140 might be shaky even though there's still some decent comp there (Broner, Manny). He needs to get into that 47 sweep steaks. Problem with that is Arum is not in any hurry to have him fight Haymon fighters. So Broner at 40 and Thurman, Porter, Spence and Garcia is probably a no go. Canelo v Chavez jr? :lol
Mexicans don't run from fights so to save face from running from GGG, hes going after another Mexican with a biggest name just so all the Mexicans will watch and he can feel proud.
He's too afraid to move up 5 pounds to fight GGG, but will move up 10 to fight Chavez jr. And at that, will still be making Chavez come into the fight weak from making weight.
Now, as much a Chavez jr has been such a disappointment for laziness, this could be his Buster Douglas moment. That's only if, and only if, he trains like a lion for this fight. Dude has heavy hands and one punch that Canelo doesn't slip could change the fight. But that's a big if.

Stevenson made him look like an amateur.
The difference in ability is astounding.
And Stevenson had plenty left in the tank after 12 rounds.
The kid showboated at the end of the fight, which I did not think was appropriate.
But then in his interview Stevenson had nothing but praise for Valdez. Said he was tough as hell and never gave up.
Then gently stated, Im just better. Which is clearly true.
I should also add Stevenson is much, much physically stronger in this division if Valdez is the best offer. He walked Valdez down and was unaffected by the few punches Valdez got in. So not only was Stevenson a better boxer, quicker, smarter, he is a hell of a lot stronger. Very lopsided.
oh crap

Yeah, very lopsided indeed. Thought Stevenson would easily win but had hoped it would have been more competitive. Stevenson dominated the fight but was pretty boring overall. The Serrano/Taylor fight ended up delivering much more action.

Bivol dismantled him. I didn't expect to see Canelo that befuddled.
Bivol's combos frequently didn't land flush but they came so fast that even if it's only like a 20% hit, you can tell it was pissing off Canelo. Bivol also very cautious and didn't allow himself to be setup for a counterpunch.
Also seemed like massive disrespect to Bivol's home country. Acting like he is from the US? Maybe a sanctions thing. Glad the fight was able to go through despite US geopolitical ignorance and arrogance.

Easy win for Bivol.
Canelo got against a guy longer and big who was a very disciplined but a consistently hard puncher.
Not even close. Canelo felt hard punches the entire fight and it was just way too much. And Canelo could not avoid them or catch Bivol coming in.
Bivol was the better mover. He was never really bothered.
If they had gone 15 rounds, like in years past, they would have stopped the fight imo.
Bivol is a really good boxer. He throws very stiff combinations in every round and the combinations go high and low. Very difficult for a smaller fighter who really never got a sniff at hurting his opponent.
Canelo needs to rethink this division. He cant stand there like that against a guy this good a boxer. And If there are any real boxer/heavy punchers in this division, Canelo must avoid them. Lighter weight divisions so Canelo does not feel the punches as much and his own punching power makes a difference. Boxing like a bull when you are so much smaller... nope.

Bivol is very skilled at moving out at exactly the right time, and then standing firm with hard combinations when his opponent is not able to counter. He was very, very good at this.

Can’t do that because Haney had the first five rounds at least.
And he won the last round.
The announcers completely overlooked the jabs Haney hit Lomo with, but Lomos face don’t lie.
The above being said I absolutely love the way Lomo fights. His movement to establish position is absolutely extraordinary.

They said no such thing at all. Explain that shiat??? Guess it depends on who you hang with.
And dude.
Pro boxers can be some horrible analysts. Tim Bradley absolutely sucks. The opinion on him is he is just trying to fill space with his mouth.
He said some of the stupidest shit these guys had ever heard. And he was a very good boxer. Its usually the ex boxers who are not so good that become trainers?
Haney was not close to going down. That BS. Loma winced and covered up after getting hit with a superb body shots numerous times, do those count or did you just miss them.
Explain that shiat?
With that said most of the public was with Lomo. Its pretty obvious why. He fought a great fight. and served in Ukraine. comes back at his age and fights a great fight.
I would rather him win. But in any decision I definitely want to see that fight again.

The real point is you dont understand the scoring system.
I would totally agree that the rounds Lomo won 10-9 were more dominating than the rounds Haney won 10-9. But they still count THE SAME.
But because neither fighter got hurt enough to take an 8 count there were NO 10-8 rounds.
Thats how these fights are scored. If you want a system that counts some 10-9 rounds as above others, there are diff scoring systems.

Well thats fine.
But honestly if you want to GIVE a guy a fight it would be Lomo.
He has a much larger fan base and a world wide draw.
The only problem is that he is old. Haney has no big fanbase.
Seriously the compubox numbers have Lomo throwing about 160 more punches in the fight.
With only 9 more landed. This would have won Lomo an amateur or Olympic bout because he was more active.
But its a 10 point must system.
The real surprise here imo is that NO judges gave a draw or a winning card for Lomo. It was a unanimous decision. That was strange.
But I dont find Haney winning by a close margin a total farce at all. I have seen much, much worse decisions than this. This was a close fight.
And I can see how one might have Lomo the winner. But its not near as bad enough to make one just quit watching boxing. There are way, way more farcical decisions than this one.
I dont know how to emphasize how good the actual fight was. There should be zero disappointment in taking in this fight to view.
The outcome is a different subject for me.
I just want them to fight again.

There isn't any rule that says a judge has to call a round 10-9. If they called a close round 10-9, a more decisive round 10-8, and a dominant round 10-7 it would almost eliminate these outcomes. It would also make a knockdown or a point deduction less impactful on the outcome.
But let's face it, boxing won't do that because it makes too much sense. This is, after all, the sport that changed championship fights to an even number of rounds and has 80-year-old politicians as judges.

I watched the fight with my boys and told them that Loma would be crazy to let the fight go to the scorecards again.

You have to really dominate a round to get 10-8. Knockdown or bell ending a slaughter.
I cant help it if boxing follows these rules. WE know what they are. You just stated they wont.
So in that case its silly.
Loma lost a close fight.
Your view is indeed obstructed.
Your beef is with boxing, not this fight. Because its way off.
You cannot seriously tell me you have seen many, many decisions that were absolutely horrific. Much more than this fight. If you think this was a horrible screw job, you really are not acquainted with boxing.
THIS fight was NOT in that category. It was a good fight. If Lomo had won, I would have still liked the fight. Who won does not really matter to me personally.
The quality of the fight does. And it was a good one.

It would still make for a mess.
Its still an opinion.
Its JUDGED. It requires JUDGES to decide who wins. Just like ice skating and gymnastics.
And the JUDGES are indeed part of the problem, but it will not change controversy, just like the other sports that are judged.
They do need a whole new system of picking judges. Not sure how it gets done because this sport is naturally corrupt just by the way fights are set up.
There is no one ruling body. There is no commissioner. And worst of all.... its judged.
Just think about Promoters. Thats the real problem. There is not one body, like the NFL that sets up the stage, the venues, the schedule, who gets to fight whom.
I realize this. I just go with the beauty of the sport itself. If you are really into outcomes this sport will treat you badly.
So great fight. Do it again (and hell yes I may be asking way too much to ask for another, promoters will determine this).

There is literally no rule stating that you have to dominate a round to get a 10-8 score. It is simply how they have always done it.

I assume you missed the word not in that first sentence, because I've seen hundreds of fights in the last 40 years and I've seen dozens of terrible decisions. I'm watching a fight on Showtime right now and just saw an outcome I agreed with but by a margin that was embarrassing.

It was a really good fight. It was a shit decision. Yeah, it wasn't the worst decision ever, but I'm puzzled how you defend bad decisions. I knew Loma would get screwed by the judges. And he did. Boxing is a great sport run by thieves, gangsters and cheats.

I agree with Obstructed. Proof that the decision was bullshit was the look on Haney’s face after the fight was over he looked very very worried. Also when the decision was read, he went crazy because he knew that he should’ve lost the fight. That was joy of getting gifted a win.
Anyhow, I really don’t care because boxing is corrupt as f ck.

Why would the judges be against Lomo?
He is by far a larger draw for future fights compared to Haney.
I will say it again. I thought it was a close fight. You know how it is judged, it does not matter if you want a 10-7 round. 10-8 and 10-7 rounds are absolute slaughters.
ANd I was the one that brought up that the 10-9 rounds in favor were more in Lomos favor. But I know how the fights are scored. Your system can still result in screw jobs. In fact it gives the judges more latitude to do so as they can really change a fight even more.
I do like that I have ignited the boxing section.
I really like Lomo. He goes away and no one even thinks about those lower divisions right now. He has a much better resume than Haney. Again. I just like good fights. The outcome will kill you if you are dead set on one boxer. I remember the Pac Mayweather shit that went back and forth that saw both fighters out of their prime when they finally fought. That was extraordinarily disappointing. People were all over Mayweather for ducking. People were all over Pac for doping. I actually enjoyed Mayweather fights because he was so good defensively. And I really loved Pac fights because he really was an outstanding aggressive fighter. They were very different and I loved both styles. I like the sport, its super difficult.
Lets see the fight in question again and I hope its even better.

It is horribly corrupt.
But if you can accept that and just watch the fights and not worry about the decisions its much more satisfying.
Boxing tries to get fans just like MMA. They make one of the guys out to be a villain. Its totally silly.
Then the fighter whos promoter does the fight has control over the decision, and decisions are made by how popular they can make a boxer.
Pac being a politician and savior, Mayweather all about money and basically being a horrible person.
Boxing itself does not need to have this kind of shit to interest me.
And we really dont need to give our resumes or who we watch the fights with as it will probably end in a draw if you really watch fights with people who teach the sport. Because they can be as slanted as a casual fan. There are great stories about the Ayalas here in San Antonio that are just horrific. But they knew their boxing. Until scrambled brains and drugs.

I think you and I agree that we each resolved long ago to enjoying the boxing during the fight in spite of the judging afterward. My suggestion would probably solve the accidentally bad decisions, but you and I both know the intentionally bad decisions are what makes the business of boxing suck. There will always be a Don King lurking.

Absolutely.
Promoters have kept some super fights from ever happening.
And they get their weasely hands on judges.

Yes it was good, but DONT charge me to watch a rigged fight. Make all boxing exhibitions as well. These very sketchy score cards happen way too often. Everyone knows what is going on.

The last fight I paid for had one boxer biting another boxer twice and getting disqualified. Ipvanish, Kodi, and The Crew are the trick.

I like both.
But they are both easy to cheat on.
I would never bet on one of these events.
I get your stance Lebomb.
I almost can see Haney getting paid for giving that shove that cost him.
They have to keep interest up in these things. In order to do this there is a lot of pretend hate and show it in public. there is zero reason to make them weigh in and do publicity together other than to let them scream and shove. It does not require this imo if both boxers are really good an pair well in style.

So Spence vs Crawford. Anyone else as excited as I am for it? This feels like Tyson/Holyfield or Whittaker/Chavez. Fortunately it's happening before anyone's over the hill.
I like Spence, but I love Crawford. I think the only chance Spence has is if Bud doesn't take his training seriously, which I don't think I've seen him do thus far. I'll go back and watch some more of Spence's fights to get some info.

I really like Shakur, but not sure if he has a signature win yet. He beat up smaller guys and is now being ducked, but he has whipped who they put in front of him. Gervonta is amazing to watch. Bud is an all time great. Usyk and Beturbiev have fights coming up, but might be special. Canelo is frighteningly overrated IMHO.

I was exactly the same on Inoue until last week when I saw him go up yet another weight class and completely pummel the champion like it was a sparring session. If there is anyone approaching Bud, it's likely him.
