DE Armstead just committed to Oregon, I wonder if this means anything with Cottrell.
The reports of Cottrell sticking with Oregon were a bit premature. A source of OrangeBloods has said he's "truly conflicted" at the moment and a decision could come at any time. I'll take a guess as to where his parents would prefer to have him.

Quote from LB Dalton Santos' father after committing to UT:
"He is extremely proud to be a Longhorn and vows to make his family and hometown of Van, Texas proud too."

Hassan Ridgeway plans on sticking
By William Wilkerson
AUSTIN, Texas - - Four-star defensive end Hassan Ridgeway (Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield) is “100 percent with Texas” despite taking an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend.
Ridgeway, a U.S. Army All-American, relayed that message to HornsNation on Sunday as he returned home from his visit to College Station.
What prompted the impromptu visit?
“Different reasons,” said the soft-spoken Ridgeway. “Playing time, some other things.”
Ridgeway did not elaborate on what those other things were. But he did say once he left his visit with the Aggies, he felt confident in his decision to become a Longhorn.
“I looked at it, and I didn’t care [about playing time],” Ridgeway said. “I want to be a part of Texas anyway, whether I got playing time or not.”
Ridgeway spoke with Texas defensive end coach Oscar Giles after the trip to ease any doubts on him leaving.
Ridgeway, the No. 20 defensive end in the country, has been committed to Texas since Feb. 16. He is one of two defensive ends committed in this class along with Beaumont (Texas) West Brook’s Caleb Bluiett.
When asked what it will feel like to sign his letter of intent to Texas on national signing day, Ridgeway responded, “It will be a big relief to finally get this over with.”

More quotes on the commitment of LB Dalton Santos from OrangeBloods:
"He committed to Texas this morning and he's fired up to be a Longhorn," said Santos' father, Albert Santos.
"It's a huge honor, a huge privilege," Santos said of the opportunity to be recruited by Texas. "I'm very blessed that I got this opportunity."
"Part of it is my attitude. I have an attitude that I don't care, I'm going to go make plays, going to do it the right way. I'm going to do it 100 percent, full speed, with no regrets in my mind. That's how I feel," Santos said. "I can improve on little things, my flexibility, things like that - just to know that no matter what I do or wherever I go, I can be a three-down linebacker. I want to make sure I can play all the time."
"Really, Texas is Texas. If it was just about being close, Arkansas would be there, Texas A&M, schools like that," Santos said. "There's just something about that place (Texas).
"I grew up in a family that's Texas Longhorn fans to the end," Santos said. "Growing up a Texas fan, that helps them out a ton."

First report we've seen of him communicating with the staff. I won't be sure of his status until he inks his LOI on Wednesday, but good to know he's at least having some sort of of contact with Giles.

Just a bunch of rumors. Even the pay sites are admitting that info is hard to come by. Nobody will speak.

How do people know he was there last week? If he was spotted we would have known then, not now.
Both A&M and Texas' 24/7 sites have said they think that Ridgeway being in CS last weekend as well is false. Doesn't meant he wasn't there obviously, but there are reports refuting that.

DE Armstead just committed to Oregon, I wonder if this means anything with Cottrell.
So I guess this means his brother is going as well. I wonder was the baggage of his brother a issue with Texas? If he was considering Auburn then I think we could have been in consideration if we could have just gotten him to campus. But how good is he really at end? Maybe Texas just didn't like him at end but rather he played tackle. Most sites rate him so high based on the OT position.

Well... There's nothing really more to discuss (unless aggie fans want to fuss on a TEXAS thread some more) smh.. We got Santos and Daje. Ridgeway seems to be in place. Now we just wait until NSD. If we get DGB the bad taste from loosing TJ will be overwhelmed with sweet victory. Thanks TFloss and supporting cast for such a great informational thread this recruiting season. Everyones contributions were well appreciated and I look forward to starting fresh with approaching junior days.

I don't mind aggie fans or any other fans visiting this thread. It's a great thread. But I'd like to also mention that I'm yet to visit a aggie site. I don't care who posts, as long as it's relevant. And if someone posts something that is meant to be distractional then just ignore it and keep it moving. People like that feed off of reactions, don't give them that benefit and they'll find something better to dol. Try it and see. Just sayin...

Ive heard something of this nature before. Never directly heard him say that he would commit to Texas if offered, but heard that he was very bitter to not receiving a offer from Texas. He said something like, " I guess i wasnt good enough." Idk what to think about this. He is a damn good quarterback for sure.

Arky just let Tenpenny go to Bama so I'm not sure how locked down they have their state.
Also, it is rumored that DGB's parents do not like Petrino which is why I think it is between Texas and Mizzou with Mizzou winning out (close to family, close to his girlfriend)

We normally concentrate within Texas. I don't think the staff calls every recruit in the top 250 or so to gauge their interest. Maybe they do, if so then maybe he should have seemed more interested. Or maybe he should have picked up a phone or sent them an email. I don't fault our recruiters.

Addison would be a big loss. I don't expect him to flip considering he's close friends with Matt Davis (who already signed his LOI) and he's been all about the "AggSwaggMovement" that Davis, Williams, and him started.

Funny how his recruitment has played out.
My cousin said he met some guys close to DGB on camp circuit and he sincerely felt DGB gave them no idea whatsoever where he was leaning. Yet all the pay sites and analysts feel they know - while his teammates he sees every day still have no idea. At that point it was rumored he was OU lean and he was package deal with Gunnar Kiel (my cousin pointed out DGB's teammates thought this was hilarious because he told them he never even met or even talked to Kiel when this was blowing up the internet).
The only true inference to make is that he is close to family and has tons of twitter posts to his girlfriend on how they are perfect together. That is only solid info and why I've always felt he would go to Mizzou or Arky for proximity.
All the smoke is from an Oklahoma reporter that claims to have a source that leaked. I'm not believing it. But At this point I think Mizzou is solid leader with Arky in second and Texas pretty much a hail mary.

"That is one of the things that made me take another look at Oregon," Addison said. "A lot of kids growing up and about to become a young adult like myself, going thousands of miles away from home is hard. To have your best friend possibly be there with you that takes some of the stress of being away from your family away. To have my best friend there would be a great addition to being at Oregon."
Allen agreed.
"That would be just awesome, playing on the same team as your best friend, being college roommates," he said.

I'm still of the opinion that nobody truly knows but also feel that it's down to Mizzou and Texas. I think Arkansas and OU are out at this point. I keep going back to this one quote from Inside Texas that pretty much sums it up as to how I think this whole thing is going down. I'm giving the slight lead to Mizzou hoping the kid will go with his gut:
"First, we (Texas) think we’re out in front but this is where it gets tricky. We discussed how the parents trust Mack and the Texas staff more than the other schools. We discussed how Sally Brown has endeared herself to Mrs. Beckham so we lead there. So in terms of the parents, we are the preferred school. The problem is you have a young man in high school with a girlfriend and tons of friends in the area so he’s having second thoughts about going so far from home. We think he’ll have the best chance for success at our school and the parents agree, but right now the young man is torn."

I started getting sucked into the Texas hype from reading from Texas sites, but remember JS and Cigar / Asset have the burnt orange glasses on. And they are reporting what DGB is telling Texas directly. I'm guessing DGB is giving all the schools strong feedback like that to be polite - as he comes across as a smart and respectful kid.
Even if he does strongly prefer Texas coaches, the deal breaker for me thinking Mizzou has huge lead is the girlfriend. For us it may seem foolish - but his girlfriend is probably his sanity at this point and young love is young love. Hell, follow his twitter posts (@DorialGB5) and I think that speaks louder than everything. He is either a few hours drive away, or a plane ride away from the girlfriend.

With the relationship we have had and the negative feelings towards Petrino and Arky, Missouri IMO just is not better to go to than Texas. I realize he wants to stay closer to home, but damn, Austin is a direct flight from Springfield. ish him the best and no hard feelings. He has been class act the whole time!

Mods on both Hook 'Em 24/7 and OrangeBloods have changed their tones from earlier in the day. Not sure what happened or what information they came upon, but the mood is a bit different.
From positive to negative or from negative to positive??

Sorry to the other guys that posted the info earlier tonight. I didn't see it on the previous page until just now. Basically Texas is very much in the race and it's not all Mizzou as it seemed earlier.

I think it would be too late at that point. I think Texas is all in on DGB, it could always change tomorrow, but I don't see another offer going out.
Side note, I like Corey Coleman quite a bit. He was the logical replacement for TJ, but I'm very happy that Texas got Daje.

So according to Santos' mom, Texas had a player decommit and that is how they were able to sign him. They were always interested but had no scholarship available until now. She said it was a player that went to A&M instead. Who was that?
It was funny hearing her talk about the reps for both OSU and Tennessee. They kept asking them, "What are you going to do when Texas comes calling?" They were scared to death...and for good reason. She also said that Diaz told him that there would a lot of competition, but "you are mine." Sounds like Diaz is confident that Santos will be on the field contributing sooner than later. Mack also took them to his house and gave them a tour. She said the house is otherworldly. I didn't know Mack's wife was an architect...you learn something new everyday.
Mack also played the family card with Dalton's brother...told him to "check his track record" when it comes to family members. Ugh...I wish Mack would go away from this approach. I don't want to get burned again with the whole family loyalty thing.

Thanks for the update. Sally apparently made quite a bit of money in North Carolina back in the day when she was in real estate, but I didn't know she had an architecture background. Their current house looks pretty sick from the outside. I think Brewer took a picture of it over banquet weekend.

Recruiting Nation ESPN news:
Lastly will be tomorrow's inevitable news of the nation's top receiver, Dorial Green-Beckham, donning the cap of either Arkansas or Missouri, and not Texas, during his live announcement at 9:15 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
Texas gave a valiant effort in pursuit of DGB, getting him to come on an official visit and making several stops to Springfield, Mo. But it doesn't appear to be enough.

I don't believe anything the national guys say. But this came from local Hornsnation guy. Only way this is valid comment is if DGB contacted Texas staff to let them know, in which case Hornsnation guys may have found out. But who knows - I think 98% of comments on DGB are people talking out of their ass.

Not surprised at all Peat dropped so much. He looked really unimpressive all week in UA practices and especially in the game. He was getting beat almost every play if you watched him closely. I figured he'd drop at least 20-30 spots if not more after watching.
Sure playing AZ ball doesn't help with low competition, not to mention these games favor D-Line big time. Be that as it may, I felt a lot better losing out on him in seeing he is obviously a guy that does not look ready for prime time.

From the Cigar on DGB
First off, it sounds like hints and tone are starting to change the coaching staff's thinking about DGB, and now they feel pretty confident they aren't going to get the five star wideout. The family hasn't notified the staff definitively one way or the other, but the way they've answered certain questions along with certain questions they've asked the staff indicates Texas won't finish first in this thing come tomorrow morning. If we had to call it now we'd say about 20% Texas at this point. Or let's put it this way, the Cigar says the staff would be very surprised if the Horns get DGB's signature. Our staff still thinks it's Missouri.
Other updates on DGB
Supposedly OU was called and told they were out. Their sources believe he will pick Mizzou.
Arkansas told Javon Williams WR his offer is committable - which most thought was a backup if they lost out on DGB. So looking like they may be out.
No news Texas has been eliminated, but thoughts are Mizzou has too much to lose and will win this battle.

I was never confident we would get DGB, but its a shame that a player this good is going to a team that will be irrelevent throughout his college career. He wont even sniff a BCS bowl much less a national championship. If he goes to Mizzou hes gone to the NFL in 2 years, cause he wont do much winning there.

Welcome to the board, Boom.
2013 will be fun at DT because you've got Golden (who was #2 on UT's board) already committed to A&M. Then you have Manning (UT's #1) who is an OU legacy. He'll be at their Junior Day this weekend and I'm hoping he won't get an itch to commit early. It will be interesting to see where Russell fits in and if his spot is controlled by someone else.

Missouri might be the winner for top prospect Dorial Green-Beckham
http://vmedia.rivals.com/images/rivalsdes/2004/bullet.gif DGB's day The No. 1 storyline in the country is where the nation's No. 1 recruit will end up. Dorial Green-Beckham (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=98834) hasn't done a recruiting interview in close to a year and those around him have remained tight-lipped as well. Arkansas (http://arkansas.rivals.com/) was thought to be the favorite but Missouri (http://missouri.rivals.com/) now seems to have moved into the driver's seat. Nobody will really know anything until signing day when he makes his decision on national television. Even Oklahoma (http://oklahoma.rivals.com/) and Texas (http://texas.rivals.com/) remain somewhat cautiously optimistic.
http://vmedia.rivals.com/images/rivalsdes/2004/bullet.gif A&M vs. Oregon
With few uncommitted top recruits left in the state of Texas, many eyes will be on wide receiver Thomas Johnson (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=110750) on signing day as he chooses between California (http://cal.rivals.com/), Oregon (http://oregon.rivals.com/), TCU (http://tcu.rivals.com/) and Texas A&M (http://tamu.rivals.com/). However, the Aggies and Ducks have another battle brewing as longtime A&M pledge Bralon Addison (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=81314) is strongly considering switching to Oregon. The U.S. Army All-American will make his ultimate decision known on signing day.
http://vmedia.rivals.com/images/rivalsdes/2004/bullet.gif Mack the man
Texas usually has its class completely full by the summer, if not even by the end of February. However, head coach Mack Brown (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=64) took a different approach this year and it paid off with the Longhorns' best late haul in years. Texas flipped Kendall Sanders (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=100333) from Oklahoma State (http://oklahomastate.rivals.com/), Daje Johnson (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=123363) from TCU, Adrian Colbert (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=132889) from Baylor (http://baylor.rivals.com/), Dalton Santos (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=109994) from Tennessee (http://tennessee.rivals.com/), Bryce Cottrell (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=115056) from Oregon and Marcus Johnson (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=108805) from Texas A&M all relatively late in the game.

Update on 2013 QB JT Barrett from OrangeBloods...the staff called his coach recently and basically said he's been approved for an offer. He is supposed to speak with Wyatt and/or Harsin tonight to get more information. The report said he's still scheduled for the second Junior Day. Swoopes will be getting offered for sure at the first Junior Day, so I'm really curious as to how the staff plans on proceeding. Like we've talked about in the past, Barrett's future with UT could depend on what kind of vibes Swoopes gives the staff in two weeks. It doesn't seem as simple as offering both guys and taking the first to commit, but we'll see what happens.

Lucky Mizzou and poor DGB. He won't be able to really showcase his ability to the fullest nor compete for a championship. I'm looking forward to seeing him compete in the SEC.
OrangeBloods pulled back on this report essentially saying that things are in the beginning stages with Barrett and no decisions have been made at QB for the 2013 class. I believe that to be false considering Swoopes has been confirmed for the first Junior Day for a few weeks now. I think the staff tries their damndest to get him locked up early and there are a lot of positive rumors that they will.

Howell leaving Longhorns

AUSTIN, Texas -- Before Texas can go about adding new names to the roster Wednesday, the Longhorns had to scrub one of the existing names off. Calvin Howell, a sophomore defensive tackle, has decided to transfer, a source within the program told HornsNation. Howell was projected to contend for a starting spot in 2012 along with Ashton Dorsey, Chris Whaley, Brandon Moore and Desmond Jackson. Howell started seven games in 2011 and played in all 13 games. The 6-4, 290-pound sophomore had 16 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, one caused fumble, one fumble recovery and three pressures. It is not yet known where Howell will transfer. He joins a long list of players who have left the program since August including Garrett Gilbert, Connor Wood, Darius White, Traylon Shead and Chris Jones. But Howell's situation is slightly different. While all of the other players left due to playing time, Howell was playing, a lot. He played in 27 games at Texas, starting the aforementioned seven. Texas is in a position to absorb the loss of Howell because defensive tackle might be the deepest position on the field. Texas brought in Brandon Moore from junior college to fill the tackle spot left open by the departure of Kheeston Randall. Whaley, who has moved from running back to end to tackle since he signed in 2009, is expected to be a force at defensive tackle. Dorsey started four games in 2011. Jackson is the strongest of the bunch and played in every game as a true freshman. Then there is incoming recruit Malcom Brown (Brenham, Texas/Brenham). Brown is rated the No. 2 tackle in the country by ESPNU. He is expected to come in and contend for playing time as a true freshman.

See that tweet from Tips. One of the insiders on OB (El Mahico) said Torshiro is actually the one who re-opened the lines of communication with Texas last week. "You need pass rushers in the Big 12," Holmes said. "He went to (Army All-American Game) and played linebacker. He didn't get a lot of action. He's a pass rusher."
"He talks to Bo (Davis) just about every night. Bo's like a father to him," coach Holmes said.

Ah okay, I'm at work so I've missed all the ESPN stuff. For some reason, it doesn't stream here.
I hope he realizes UT doesn't play them this year.
Oh, I didn't see it either. I thought you did. The announcers were supposedly just laughing at him for posting those things on National Signing Day (of all days). Even TexAgs was telling him to STFU.

I think that's the precise reason he felt comfortable popping off like that. Seems cowardly to me.

Who's more cowardly? The one that wants to play or the one who refuses to?

you aggies win in the spirit category - i'll give you that. if texas went 6-6 with best team in 15 years and then lost at home to you with a really down team, i wouldn't be posting on texags. then again, i wouldn't ever post on texags anyway. but i'm sure some dipshit texas fans do.
don't they have good a&m forums out there or SEC fan sites to post slash cry to mama on? nobody wants to read the endless debate, move on, it's over.

Or you could do like Blake did for Texas Tech recruiting, and create a thread on Texas A&M recruiting.

That's like saying, who's more cowardly? The poodle that wants to fight the pit bull, or the pit bull that refuses to (because he doesn't give a shit about the poodle)?

There aren't many Tech fans either, but that didn't stop Blake.
