You are the same idiots that cheered because you get to lose to Alabama and LSU every year.

Wow; standing by your prediction after it turns out to be wrong. In case you hadn't noticed, we beat Alabama at home and the LSU game could have gone either way. Tomorrow are you going to predict Romney will beat Obama?

The longhorns would be chomping at the bit to beat down aggy. I don't think the motivation would be the same in aggytown.

Wait, aren't y'all always saying we're obsessed with beating Texas while they don't consider us a 'rival'? Now they're the 'little brother' chomping at the bit to beat A&M, while we could hardly care less about them? Whose point are you trying to make here? :lol I think you're starting to crack Blake; watching your team lose to A&M almost every week this season is taking a toll on your faculties.

:lmao

3/4 of a season in the SEC suddenly makes you the "big brother" :rollin :rollin

not the fact that A&M cries perpetually about anything UT related and has done so for 100 years

or the fact that A&M has a whopping 37-76 record against UT

no no no no no its the fact that you are in the SEC, and suddenly that gives you a dick and balls :lmao

while we could hardly care less about them?

Is that why half of this thread, which is supposed to be about "Johnny Football", is about A&M fans talking shit to UT fans?

Actually, I think it was more so that people found it funny that they would go from being bottom feeders in the Big-12 to bottom feeders in the SEC, and think that it is some sort of lateral move. You really think this is going to help recruiting that much? Maybe it will for a couple years, since its a new fad, and especially since they pulled off a very fortunate upset of Alabama to begin their new partnership with the SEC. But just wait for when Alabama, LSU, and Florida starts taking your big name recruits, along with all the recruits Texas already has first, second, and third dibs on, then the leftovers that OU gets. Enjoy that incredible recruiting boost :rollin

You really want to brag about recruiting when Mack's team of 4 & 5 star recruits keeps finding itself in dogfights with the likes of Kansas and Baylor?

Never said ESPN is behind that. I just said they heavily feed into the over hyping that goes on of the upper tier SEC teams. Whether they have a hand in the corrupt officiating or not, I have no clue, and don't really care if they do or not.

Oh, okay. Well forget the officiating and feel free to elaborate on how ESPN is responsible for the SEC being overrated.

What Mack does (or in this case, doesn't do) with the recruits has nothing to do with the fact that UT consistently dominates the recruiting of athletes in the state of Texas. The majority of athletes in this state want to go to UT first, that's simply a fact. It's not bragging.

I'm just saying that A&M is severely misguided if they think that the move to the SEC is going to be some major upgrade in their recruiting of players. Occasionally, yes it may win a guy over here and there, but it's not going to change the fact that UT still dominates that market, and that they stupidly just opened the doors for Alabama, LSU, and Florida to have an extra means of communication with those same recruits A&M are trying to get. Say 100 different players who would like to play for UT, realize that UT isn't the place for them for various reasons (whether its PT, not being offered, etc...), and has to decide on a second option of university, and has the choice between A&M and Alabama, who are they going to mostly choose?

Oh, okay. Well forget the officiating and feel free to elaborate on how ESPN is responsible for the SEC being overrated.

Perhaps just think about your own arguments from 2-3 years ago, when Aggie fans were also sick of the SEC hype as well. That should answer that question.

Damn Manziel just needs an average game for him and it's his. I would have never believed that just 10 days ago.

I also don't see why A&M can't be a top 10 recruiting team for the forseeable future. LSU wasn't any kind of power for years before Saban, for example. Just need the right coach and a little luck early.

Agree and disagree. Agree that A&M isn't going to directly make a dent in Texas' recruiting, but that doesn't mean A&M isn't going to benefit. A&M will benefit, it just isn't going to be primarily at Texas' expense.

And I'm not buying the "you just opened the doors arguement". The SEC has been recruiting this state forever, as have the Big10 and the Pac.

Yes everyone has been recruiting the state of Texas, but it certainly makes it a bit easier when you have a direct link to the state in your conference.

Simultaneously, while the "you get to play in the SEC" angle may help a bit (for a little while anyways, however conference success comes and goes in spurts, this current run won't last forever), I don't think it's going to help as much as you suggest.

Manziel was on a tear.

I initially didn't care who won or lost, but after about a quarter of watching Manziel, I found myself rooting for A&M. Dude just has a charisma about him and the way he plays the game. Very admirable. However, he needs to work on being able to flat out dissect a defense better from the pocket. He is as good of a playmaker as you will see, as he finds ways to extend plays for a long time. However, he had insane amounts of time to just sit in the pocket, and several times he didn't find anyone open and had to run. I'm not sure if its because no one was open, but I'm leaning that it's more of his youth and him not seeing the field as well as he needs to.

If he develops that aspect, and leads A&M to a title or two, he might be on track to be the best QB in college history. He is a really impressive football player.

He has gotten better at that every game. To his credit, OU's secondary is said to be the strength of their team. He can throw the ball though and has proven that. He has great accuracy and arm strength. He doesn't force passes but why would you if you know you can get 10 yards on the ground any time you want.

I didn't discount his abilities, nor said he should force passes. I just think he needs to develop more at reading defenses, because if you have as much time in the pocket as he had on multiple plays in the game against OU, he should have been able to find someone open. However, I also attributed that as being likely due to his youth. I'm sure he will develop that aspect.

Not sure why so defensive :dizzy

I'm not being defensive. I agree that he needs to continue to get better at that, along with a lot of other things. Just noting that he's come a long long way compared to where he was at week 1 against Florida. He's getting there. Watching him literally improve week after week at the things he needs to improve on is the most promising thing.

The university recently retained the services of a renowned sports and sponsorship evaluation company to measure the media exposure generated by the football team’s historic finish and quarterback Johnny Manziel winning the 2012 Heisman Trophy. Research conducted by Joyce Julius & Associates (www.joycejulius.com) shows that the redshirt freshman winning the prestigious trophy produced more than 1.8 million media impressions, which translates into $37 million in media exposure for Texas A&M.

The lifeblood of the Aggies’ 11-win season in their first year of the SEC was Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel. And because of the electrifying freshman, TAMU estimated that the team – and most notably Manziel and Kevin Sumlin – produced $37 million in media exposure.

This makes zero sense:
Johnny Manziel (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/517475/johnny-manziel), the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is a national sensation -- Johnny Football. His school, Texas A&M, is making the GNP of Kuwait off him in jersey sales and T-shirt sales and ticket sales and donations and anything else it can dream up. To A&M, he's Johnny Man-sell.
And what does Johnny get out of all that? Zero cents.
So when the Manziel family lawyer suggested he trademark the "Johnny Football" nickname so bloodsuckers couldn't rob him of at least that, he agreed. Besides, he had to. According to copyright law, if he didn't trademark it, it was the same as saying he didn't care. Which meant anybody could make money on him. Plus, according to NCAA rules, he or his school had to take some kind of action or he'd risk losing his eligibility.
NCAA Athletes and TV Moneyhttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/0607/poker_e_money11_134.jpgA judge rejected the NCAA's motion that players in the antitrust suit led by former UCLA star Ed O'Bannon should be precluded from advancing their lawsuit. Tom Farrey » (http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/8895337/judge-rules-ncaa-athletes-legally-pursue-television-money)

So he did what his lawyer advised and maybe thought he'd make a few small potatoes off the nickname when -- and if -- he survived three more years of college football and went pro. But since he's only about the size of your average underwriter, that's a very big "if."
Right away, the lawyer found all kinds of people cashing in on the Johnny Football thing. He started suing, beginning with a guy in East Texas selling $20 T-shirts. And right away the critics called Manziel every awful thing they hadn't already called Seth McFarlane: "greedy," "arrogant" and "big-headed."
But get this: The NCAA came out this week and announced that any money he won in any lawsuit, he got to keep. Starting now, not when he turned pro. Now, is that vintage NCAA pretzel logic or what?
We'll throw you in the clink if you take a $3 bagel from a booster, but you can keep lawsuit money, even if it's millions. Have fun!
"Johnny Manziel might suddenly be the tip of the iceberg here," says professor Rick Karcher of the Center for Law and Sports at the Florida Coastal School of Law. "This might lead to athletes finally being able to market their likeness."
So what target should Johnny Football sue next?
The NCAA, of course! And Texas A&M! And the Heisman! And the Cotton Bowl! And anybody else he can dream up!
Because some schlub selling Johnny Football T-shirts out of the back of his van is a Bic lighter compared with the forest fire that's burning Manziel's wallet right now.
What judge would stop him? What judge would rule that a player signs away his right to justice when he takes a scholarship?
It's foolproof! How can the NCAA see the evil in some citizen cashing in unfairly on Manziel's name but not when it does it? How can Texas A&M send out more than 60 cease-and-desist letters to people selling Manziel items, as it says it has, and not accept one itself?
Oh, sure, Texas A&M will tell you it's only selling its generic No. 2 jersey to its fans, not a "Johnny Manziel jersey." Doesn't even have his name on it. Not cashing in on the name at all.
Which is a Texas-sized pile of manure. No kid in America is saying, "Dad, can I please have a Texas A&M No. 2 jersey for Christmas?" No, that kids wants "a Johnny Manziel jersey," and nothing else.
We know that because of the nearly 2,000 Manziel items for sale on eBay right now -- including an autographed helmet for $1,250 -- every single one of them mentions Manziel's name or nickname in the ad. The name is the whole point. The magic Manziel plies with his feet and his arm and his heart is the reason people want the stuff. Texas A&M and the NCAA know they're running a fabulous grift here. And so would any judge from here to Halifax.
This isn't paying players. This is paying a national star a tiny portion of the millions he's made his school. Money he's earned with greatness. Money we can quantify.
[+] Enlargehttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/0226/ncf_u_harper_200.jpg (http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/0226/ncf_u_harper_400.jpg)Joy R. Absalon/USA TODAY SportsBryce Harper might say "This is a clown caption, bro."

For instance, a study by Joyce Julius & Associates found that, last season alone, Manziel was worth $37 million in "media exposure" (free advertising) for the Aggies. By December, the school bookstore sold out all 2,500 replica jerseys it had. There's a guy on eBay who says he's sold 625 "Johnny Football" T-shirts at $20 each. The Collegiate Licensing Company figures that winning a Heisman increases your sales and royalties by 27.5 percent over five years. Imagine the increase in donations and applications alone to A&M. Meanwhile, Manziel's coaches all got raises.
And what does Manziel get? He gets all the crap of being famous but none of the cash. He takes all online classes because so many fellow students want pictures, then gets ripped for being "too good" for everybody else. He posts a few pictures on hisInstagram account (http://web.stagram.com/n/jmanziel2/) and people respond with, "Shouldn't you be studying?" He tries to protect a little part of his financial future, and online boobs like Cody P. snark, "How many people do that? Nobody."
Nobody? Try hundreds of athletes you've heard of. And not just their nicknames. Tiger Woods trademarked his initials. Bryce Harper trademarked the phrase "That's a clown question, bro!" Famously unibrowed NBA star Anthony Davis (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/484691/anthony-davis) has filed to trademark "Fear The Brow."
But hey, starting next year, the NCAA says Manziel can take a whopping $300 stipend, yearly.
Whoo-eee! How ON EARTH will he spend it?
People, be fair. What would be wrong with Manziel getting a piece of the pie he baked himself? Let's say he got a third of the profits of every product with his number on it -- coffee mugs, hats, key chains, everything -- with the money going into a trust account, to be given to him when he leaves school. And -- get this, Aggie Fan -- maybe he'd stay in school longer if he thinks that school isn't ripping him off.
We're through the looking glass here, people.
Maybe, finally, the NCAA might have to cease and desist the financial exploitation of its jocks.
Figures Johnny Football would find the weakness in the defense, doesn't it?

The Curious Brainwashing Case of Freddie Fuckleroy

Little Freddie Fuckleroy came into the world with a clean slate. His mind and brain worked perfectly though and he was in direct contact with reality. What does this mean -in direct contact with reality? Freddie, like most of us, didn’t have any names or labels for the things that his eyes saw. There were fluffy objects moving around, his mom and dad contorted their lips and faces and made cooing and oohing and aaahing sounds...but there was no name or label for that. Sometimes the nanny would rock the little Fuckleroy to sleep. Adults had a name or a label for the nanny- they called her “black” and also labeled her a “maid” or a “servant.” Little Freddie only responded to her warmth and her love and her touch.

In a few years The Fuckleroys had slapped a few labels on the little Fuckleroy. What does this mean- to slap a label on something or someone? Well before the labels Freddie was free to play, laugh, put frogs in his mouth and squeal if he saw a little fuzzy creature -(which us brainwashed know as squirrels) scampering towards a tree, but after the labels Freddie knew what these things were and now when he saw a squirrel - he didn’t even look twice. Freddie was not impressed with squirrels anymore - he had already labeled it-stored it away in his brain - and now he didn’t even respond - he just went on autopilot and shrugged and said, “meh- I’ve seen squirrels.” Freddie began doing this with almost everything that his senses picked up - he got so good at it that he could just put his brain on “cruise” and pretty much respond to thousands of things in the same automatic way without any effort at all. You could say that the little Fuckleroy put his brain on automatic pilot and began seeing everything the same --through the labels..........'....................

Again if I think of it, thanks in advance

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Sitting across a conference-room table at Texas A&M's Bright Football Complex on Wednesday, March 6, Johnny Manziel hardly looked the part of a high-flying, celebrity-schmoozing football star. Scruffy-haired and sporting glasses, wearing an unzipped Nike warmup jacket, a T-shirt and flip-flops, he could have easily passed for an ordinary college student.
But there's nothing ordinary about the life of the 20-year-old Kerrville, Texas, product, starting with the fact that his jacket had an official Heisman Trophy logo emblazoned on the sleeve. Or that nearly everything about his day-to-day life -- the car (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/johnny-manziel-drives-away-pretty-sweet-ride-espn-174924850--ncaaf.html) he drives, the classes (http://tracking.si.com/2013/02/19/johnny-manziel-texas-am-classes-online/) he's taking, the sporting events (http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/12/21/johnny-manziel-mavericks-game-courtside/1784377/) he's attending -- becomes a national news story. Or that millions of people he'll never meet have opinions about those stories -- many of them negative.
As the Aggies opened spring practice this week, last fall's overnight sensation, Johnny Football, is still coming to grips with the subsequent dawn of Johnny Backlash.
"For me, it went from one day being, hey, I can still be a normal kid, I can still post pictures of this, tweet this, tweet that," Manziel said in an interview on Wednesday. "Then you get the repercussions from it, and it's like, 'Oh yeah, I forgot, I won the Heisman as a freshman and life's a lot different now.' It took some getting used to."
It's not just that Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman in its 78-year existence. And it's not just that he accounted for 5,116 yards of total offense while leading A&M to its first top-five finish in the AP Poll since 1956. It's that six months removed from his first college game, he's already reached a near-unprecedented level of celebrity for a college athlete. Even the fervor that followed Tim Tebow's 2007 Heisman season seems antiquated when compared with the current media climate surrounding Manziel. Tebow's win came before the minute-by-minute news cycle created by Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and a host of rapid-response blogs, all of which have chronicled Manziel's eventful offseason.
The fact that he's taking only online classes this semester was a mini-controversy. So, too, were the copyright infringement lawsuits his family filed against a couple of parties selling unauthorized Johnny Football merchandise. This week, he made news by virtue of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class he was seen driving in an ESPN all-access segment.
And there's an obvious undertone to it all. Given Manziel's arrest last summer for disorderly conduct and providing a fake ID and an alcohol-related incident in high school detailed in a New York Times profile (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/24/sports/ncaafootball/keeping-heisman-contender-johnny-manziel-on-target-and-in-line.html?pagewanted=all), much of the college football public seems to be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops made a joke on a radio station questioning whether A&M "can keep him out of jail or keep him eligible." Pictures of Manziel (some posted by Manziel himself, others by sites like TMZ) at parties, at a casino and hanging with celebrities and pro athletes at the Super Bowl and NBA All-Star Game have further fueled the notion of Manziel as a walking compliance nightmare.
STAPLES: Meet the 27-year-old assistant in charge of Johnny Football (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20130226/johnny-manziel-jake-spavital-texas-am/)
"My situation kind of went from football player that would make some headlines, to then being on TMZ, where I was thrown in more with a celebrity world than sports world," Manziel said. "I have no idea [why]."
Manziel is learning to take that shift in stride. "The thing I've learned from everyone watching my every little move, every story that's come out -- all the jealousy, all the bitterness, all the hate that's been generated toward that -- has given me another thing, which is thick skin," he said. "Anything that's said [on Twitter] now, it doesn't get to me."
In January, Texas A&M athletic director Eric Hyman held a meeting with Manziel, Manziel's parents, coach Kevin Sumlin and school publicity, marketing and compliance officials. While portrayals at the time made it seem like the player got a talking-to about his behavior, several of the participants said it was more of a strategy session for dealing with Manziel's newfound fame. Manziel said he now checks in with the compliance staff before making any public appearances or attending any high-profile events.
"We've got a support system in place for him," said Sumlin. "The meeting that has been talked about that Eric Hyman had, it wasn't a get after you, tell you what to do meeting. It was everyone involved saying, listen, we're here for you, you don't have to handle this on your own."
Once a prolific tweeter, @jmanziel2 (https://twitter.com/JManziel2) has recently slowed to a crawl. He used to fire back at the rival fans who baited him; now he retweets innocent practice news or a Valentine's Day picture with his sister. It seems the Heisman winner's biggest challenge is autograph requests -- he's received several thousand of them since December, either in person or arriving in the mail at his or his parents' house.

Manziel torched opponents for 5,116 yards of total offense during his Heisman-winning 2012 season.

In fact, Manziel got a cruel initiation during a layover at the Dallas-Forth Worth airport en route to the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando. A full-uniformed solider approached him with a "mountain" of helmet decals, telling the player he was stationed overseas and wanted to pass out autographs to the fellow soldiers at his base. Manziel gladly obliged.
The decals wound up affixed to actual helmets being sold on eBay.
Back on campus, picture- and autograph-seekers prompted Manziel's much-chronicled decision to take all of his classes online this semester. Because of the crush of attention, it was taking him a half hour or longer to walk across campus from the football complex to his English class, so he dropped it in favor of four online classes in his major, sports management.
"I didn't want it to seem like I wasn't taking school seriously or that I was just doing all this so I could be lazy and go do these other things," Manziel said. "... All this stuff happened in the fall, and spring is just loaded. I said, let's just simplify one thing in my life while still trying to get my degree. ... I didn't think it was too big a deal. I'm sure it won't completely die down in the fall, but it will be easier."
As for the Mercedes, there's a story behind that, too -- but it's sure to only prompt some more eye rolls. The car isn't actually Manziel's first Mercedes. His family got him one as a high school graduation gift but eventually sold it; his father, John Paul, who works at a car dealership, found this one as a replacement.
"It's a touchy area," said the younger Manziel, "with the stereotype of athletes and how a majority of guys in the NCAA come from families that aren't as fortunate as my family has been to have money. ... Being in the situation I am, having the parents that I have, it's different than the stereotype that's out there."
After three months of life in the celebrity arena, Manziel returned to a more familiar environment this week: the practice field. Despite showing noticeable improvement with his arm over the course of last season and finishing with a completion rate of 68 percent, the generously listed 6-foot-1 quarterback is still far from a polished passer. Whereas a year ago at this time Manziel was first learning coordinator Kliff Kingsbury's offense, adapting to a frenetic tempo and fighting to win the starting job, this spring he can concentrate more on his footwork and mechanics.
With Kingsbury (whom Manziel still communicates with daily) gone to Texas Tech, Manziel is now working with new position coach Jake Spavital, a 27-year-old Dana Holgorsen protégé who previously worked with Houston's Case Keenum, Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden and West Virginia's Geno Smith. All made significant improvements in their second seasons in the offense.
"[Manziel] is still not where he needs to be throwing the ball," said Spavital. "The approach he's taking in the spring is focusing on being a better passer, staying in the pocket longer and using his athletic ability when the time is right. He can be a lot better passer right now."
So while Spavital teaches him about quarterbacking, Manziel continues his education in celebrity and its accompanying backlash. It's a trial by fire -- and some in the public and the media seem to be eagerly awaiting his next misstep.
"There's points where I'm trying to be a normal kid just like everybody else, and I have to sit there and realize that's not how life can be for me anymore," Manziel said. "It took me a while to learn that. It's not like one day I woke up and said, 'Hey, I know how to handle this.'"
How could he? One spring, he was a backup quarterback. The next, he's a one-man national news wire. There's no guide for navigating Manziel's current terrain, because no college player has ever experienced it.

The email reads like the work of the real-life version of Jean-Ralphio, and it is as hilarious as it is ridiculous. Some of Spiegelberg's best suggestions:

Get Kingsbury a nickname. Suggestions include "GQ," "Hollywood," and "Swagger."
Get Kingsbury a professional stylist, specifically Fred Segal, who has apparently styled "Micheal" Jackson, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Ashley Olson, Bruce Willis, The Beatles, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Lambert. "The list goes on," boasts Spieglberg.
Get Kingsbury on the "B-list," which will somehow lead to his being invited to the Oscars and Grammys. Also New York Fashion Week

Writing has been on the wall for awhile now. If he has anything close to the season he had last year than he will go to the NFL and rightfully so. A&M is in a great spot with QBs with Matt Davis, Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen. Sumlin knows he is most likely gone. If he changes his mind and decides to stay another year than that's great but its not likely at this point.

"After missing and being late for practice assignments, Johnny explained that he had been feeling ill. Consequently, we agreed that it was in everyone's best interest for him to go home a day early."

It was Manziel's first appearance as college coach/counselor at the passing academy after he had been a camper twice during his high school years. "I enjoyed meeting Johnny," said Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning "I can remember a 20-year-old Eli [Manning] missing a meeting and catching some flak. We always have counselors who leave early. Johnny was great with the campers for the time he was here. He had to leave early. I wish him the best and I want him to come back as a counselor next year."

Didn't know there was a problem with an 11 win team, or Heisman QBs, or coming into A&M your first year and having more success than anyone has seen there in decades.

Here's the thing about ole' Johnny. He's 20. He hasn't been arrested for any of these recent issues. Wgaf if he's going out and partying, cavorting with celebrities and enjoying his fame.

If he was anything other than a heisman trophy winner, none of this shit would be noteworthy. I, for one, am glad to see a guy acting his age, not pushing a moral agenda, and basically just being a normal young dude in college.

No reason it should be addressed (by the team or the school) **unless** it bleeds over into the season and greatly affects his play.

I'm fucking tired of the ultra-conservative, holier than thou, collective outlook that CFB, and, to a lesser extent, the NFL, have over their sport and their players.

Bottom line. If he doesn't get arrested and fulfills his duties to the team and the school, I don't give a fuck, and nobody else should either.

This is who he is, he was going to nba games, sitting courtside, partying with his buds, etc before he won the heisman. Just nobody cared. People who are close to him know this is the guy he is. If he changed into some different type of person who did start pushing some sort of moral agenda, like symple mentioned, that would be worse for the locker room than him just being himself.
