This might be the dumbest fuckin nickname in sports. He plays football, so you add "football" to his name. Why have people accepted this shitty, retarded nickname as something clever?

son Texas A&M had about the best chance they will get at beating LSU this year with it being a morning game at home (LSU is historically weak in morning games). A&M won't be beating LSU anytime soon ... I think they should just worry about beating the mid and lower level SEC teams and be satisfied with that for now.

sons this kid may be ok for this year and maybe even next, but in the SEC he's not going to be able to take the type of hits he takes week in and week out for long. that monkeyball running around nonsense will eventually catch up to him.

I experienced something you will never experience. I watched the team I have followed since I was 8 years old win a national championship. I was a fan back in 1983 when we lost to Georgia. I was a fan back when the wheels fell off the program back in 1984. I was a fan and had to endure losing to Miami back in 1990 cotton bowl. I endured McWilliams, Machovic and Mack having blowout losses to OU.

Fact is it was all worth it see us win the MNC. You can say what you want, but Mack is a better coach than anything you have ever had at Tech and if he were at Tech win or lose he would be a legend just like he is at Texas. When your school wins something, anything then you can judge Mack but until then you don't know what you are talking about.

He needs to be replaced, there is no doubt about it, but he goes out with dignity and respect he has earned.

Newton set the SEC total offense record in 2010 with 4,327 total yards in 14 games, or 309 total yards per game. Johnny has 3,009 yards after 8 games, or 376 yards per game.

At this pace, Johnny would account for 4,889 yards, shattering his record...

Looks like we have got this thread back on track

Now to derail it again :)

There have been some pretty good low star QBs come through the Big 12

Every great QB that has played for blOwU under Stoopid was a low star QB including Heupel 2-star and Sam Bradford 3-star.

For Texas Major Applewhite was a 2-star, Colt McCoy was a 3-star and David Ash I think was also a 3-star. The only 5-star Qbs for Texas have been Simms, pretty good while here, and Vince - Goes without saying, and Gilbert - again goes without saying :(

Outside of Vince, Texas has had more success with the 3-star kids than they had with the Big 5-star kids.

I'm sketchy on the details as the story changes/grows with every telling(you know how that is) but one of the family members is currently in the pen for racketeering. I want to say the original group relocated from Chicago...before the grandfather and Jack Dempsey started working together to build a sports venue in Tyler. You don't here much about them anymore around here...hence my assumption that most of the organized crime roots died off with the older generation.

Manziel fun fact...his family is well known here in Tyler for organized crime. It's a running joke that you don't mess with anyone in the family or they will bury you in the Oil Palace(an arena they own) parking lot. I'm pretty sure that most of it has died off with the older generation though.

I don't remember if he was arrested or not but Johnny got caught shoplifting from Walmart a few years ago. Really the only problem with him is off the field issues, he had trouble with this at Tivy and this would worry me if I was an aggy fan. I only ever had one class with him and since he is who he is, he never did any work and teachers gave him the grades he needed (pretty normal for football players I assume). Also, don't be fooled by how nice or humble he may seem on social media or in interviews. He always used to say things like "give god the glory" after games but off camera he's not like that at all. I guess people know that now after his summer arrest.

On the field though, well his play speaks for itself.

vs florida 173 yds passing and 60 yds rushing with 0 td's...
vs lsu, 273 passing yds and 27 yds rushing with o td's and 3 int's...

Those 2 losses will cost JM the Heisman this season..Klein has been steady all season and he doesnt play in a hurry up offense like JM which allows more plays through out the game. If yds is your indicator for the heisman take a look at the Oregon offense and I could probably come up with at least 2 players from that team as a heisman finalist..

It isn't the 2 losses that is keeping Johnny from being the front runner. (RG3 had 3 losses).

What will end up hurting Johnny is the fact that there were only 2 weeks left in the season when he became a "legitimate candidate" to win this thing. If the Alabama game was 4 weeks ago then Johnny would have been on the map for all this time and voters would tune in every week to watch him and would vote for him. If he doesn't win the Heisman it's because all this hype is happening too late in the season and probably too late to change the mind of some voters. I mean there is only 1 more game this season that the voters will be able to watch Johnny and that's against Mizzou. Johnny needs to have an unbelievable game against them since its his last time in the spotlight. Many voters will be tuning into that game to see Johnny play. (This week A&M is not on TV).

Oregon offense = passing stat inflation for a QB. I think I've seen Mariota complete about 3 passes over 10 yards in the air this year. Oregon passing offense is dink and dunk & then let some of the fastest WRs in the nation get to running.

Not that he's not good at running it, and may very well be a Heisman candidate someday, but he's not the best QB in the country.

RG3 had the benefit of a field that had no clear best player on top teams. Both LSU & Bama were defense driven (Honeybadger got to NY despite not even being best corner on his own team).

Klein is clearly best player on K-State. If the Cats can win out (still a big 'if', they could lose one or both these games if they lay an egg) - it's going to be really tough for him to be caught.

When comparing raw numbers too, it should be noted that Johnny has 130 more pass + rush attempts this year due to the hurry up offense.

In terms of yards per play (pass + rush attempt), Johnny is averaging 7.7, CK is 7.6. If you do conference stats only, CK is still 7.6 - but JM drops to 7.1. Klein also averages a TD every 11.7 plays that the ball is in his hands. While still very impressive, Manziel is up at 15.

none of the other defenses are much to write home about. A few of them may be rated higher, but that's at least in part due to getting to play sec offenses.

Got curious about how the SEC & Big12 have done out of conference this year.

SEC: 35-7 in non conference. 3-4 vs. teams in current BCS 25.
wins: Bama over Michigan; A&M over LaTech; LSU over Washington
losses: OleMiss to Texas; Arky to Rutgers; Auburn to Clemson; Kentucky to Louisville
2 more games vs. BCS 25 teams yet to be played: Fla/FlaSt; SC/Clemson

Big 12: 26-4 in non conference. 0-1 vs. teams currently ranked in the BCS top 25
wins: none
losses: OU to Notre Dame

Doesn't look like the big12 is looking for much of a challenge OOC. K-state deserves some slack though because they did put Miami on their schedule. It's not K-state's fault Miami imploded. I'm sure K-state thought they were getting a good game against an opponent that would be ranked when they put that game on the schedule.

This.

SEC defenses don't hardly have to face any legit offenses. I've said for a while that a huge factor as to why SEC has this current streak going, is because of the difference of offensive systems. Several of the teams that lost in the NC game over the past 6 years like Oklahoma and Ohio State were QB-based, pass heavy teams, while the SEC were pretty much run based, with occasional play action. Most of the time, pass heavy offenses are based around timing and rhythm, and when you have a month of no games to play, you think that rhythm and timing won't be disrupted?

It's not the SEC's fault for that system, but with the style of play that is prevalent across most SEC teams, it most definitely benefits them more, while puts other conferences that do a lot more passing like the Big-12 and Pac-10, at more of a disadvantage. It pains me to say it, but I would put money on it that if OU and Florida had played with just a week layoff, instead of a month, OU wins that game and probably puts up 30-40. And while I don't think they necessarily would have won, Ohio State would have definitely given Florida a better game as well. I don't think anyone can deny they looked more out of sync than usual as well. Oregon/Auburn? lol I think even a few (very few) SEC homers know that game could have certainly gone much different.

Fairley in that game, and Suh in the Big-12 championship game against Texas in 09 are two of the most amazing games I've seen by an individual defensive player. It's incredibly rare to see a single defensive player have as much impact on an entire game, as those guys did.

Ted Ginn's injury really hurt the Buckeyes that night. And there were things going on in that locker room before the game that were not conducive to that team coming out ready to play. (Lots of rumors surrounding Troy Smith, Anthony Gonzales and Gonzales's girlfriend.) Smith was also fat and out of shape from a month on the banquet circuit.

Really though, that was just a bad matchup especially between Ohio State's OL and Florida's DL. Florida's ends had a field day that game.

I don't really disagree with anything in this post, except saying OU would have beaten Florida. The forgotten factor about those UM Florida teams were that they were very, very good (top 10) on defense as well as being offensive juggernauts. Nobody paid any attention to them, though, because of Teabag

The other factor in the SEC, IMO, is lack of quality quarterback play on the best teams. Alabama is an anomaly, and can rely on their defense and a game manager, but you see what happens to LSU/Florida/South Carolina when they don't have a stud. Georgia is a bizarre case, even though they probably have the best QB in the SEC outside of Manziel. Incredibly inconsistent. You just never know which team is going to show up, on either side of the ball. And holy hell, if the Bammers find a special QB you can forget about it, they'll be as close to unbeatable as a team can be.

Offensive schemes also lag behind other conferences. This has been apparent this season far more than in the past.

If any of those squads had a Manziel/Kline type of guy, with those impossible to develop intangibles, they would be dominant.

I think you'll start to see more teams in the conference shift (back AU/UF e.g.) toward the spread. Especially since it's the Kryptonite to Saban's superman. I doubt Spurrier would go that route, but I can definitely see Les Miles and Muschamp hiring a spread OC in the future

And, fwiw, imho, if A&M can conjure up a more solid defense, they'll have to be a favorite for the Natty next year

In some ways, the schedule has played to Manziell's favor. If he had this game against Bama earlier, it would have put him at or near #1 on the list, but if he had the LSU game after that, it would have knocked him off altogether.

Ultimately, I think laying the dud in the second biggest game of Aggie's season - a game that was very winnable with a better QB performance - will prove to be too much for him overcome. Favorite for the Heisman in 2013.

And while he did turn the ball over and make some freshman mistakes, he still put up the most yards on that LSU defense then anyone else has this season. Also, the game was winnable if we had a FG kicker. A missed PAT and two missed field goals did us in that game, not QB play.

I think if it were to happen, you would see Klein struggle vs that LSU defense as well. K State won't play anything close to a D like that and Klein for damn sure wouldn't put up 345 yards of offense vs Alabama with 2 TD's and 0 turnovers.

The highest rated defense K-State has played this season is Texas Tech, who has given up 34 pts to Kansas, 31 to Texas, 41 to OU, and 36 to TCU. AND Manziel has managed to put up 1,000+ more yards up than Klein. lmao please

And there is no reason why anyone should think Klein has had a better season than Johnny Football. Using the LSU game or the 2nd half of the Florida game as the main argument is stupid...Klein hasnt faced a defense anywhere near as good as Bamas, LSUs, or Floridas. Yet Manziel still has better numbers by an overwhelming margin. Unless they inexplicably lose to Mizzou it would be a travesty to not give him the Heisman.

His total yards against LSU are extremely misleading. 81(!) total plays called for him. He averaged UNDER 5 yards per attempt - THAT'S TERRIBLE. He averaged under 2 yards per rush - THAT'S TERRIBLE.

Not that it matters. For Klein to stay the favorite, he had to not lay an egg against Baylor - he (and everybody else wearing a purple jersey) shat themselves profoundly (to mix a couple metaphors).

But it's still ridiculous for Aggie fans to trump the LSU total yardage as a point in Johnny's favor. That's the equivalent of getting excited about a basketball player's 25 point game when he took 40+ shots.

I've repeatedly said that he had a bad performance vs LSU, Was just showing that even in his worst performance as a college quarterback, he still put up the most yards of any other QB LSU had faced up to last week. Of course, that LSU defense didn't look that impressive vs Ole Miss last weekend.

IWas just showing that even in his worst performance as a college quarterback, he still put up the most yards of any other QB LSU had faced up to last week.

Still misleading though because of the pace of play - he ran 81 pass + QB rush plays, nobody other QB has come close to that number against the Tigers. His YPA & YPC were still both well LSU's (still impressive) season averages.

All that said, I won't argue against his overall candidacy. I can no longer build up a QB who didn't tear up & beat Baylor as a better candidate.

Actually, I think it was more so that people found it funny that they would go from being bottom feeders in the Big-12 to bottom feeders in the SEC, and think that it is some sort of lateral move. You really think this is going to help recruiting that much? Maybe it will for a couple years, since its a new fad, and especially since they pulled off a very fortunate upset of Alabama to begin their new partnership with the SEC. But just wait for when Alabama, LSU, and Florida starts taking your big name recruits, along with all the recruits Texas already has first, second, and third dibs on, then the leftovers that OU gets. Enjoy that incredible recruiting boost :rollin
