I don't think Kobe's D has been bad this year. It just looked like tonight he wasn't into playing it for whatever reason. Maybe he realizes the season is pretty hopeless and has just let up a bit. This guy cares only about championships and maybe he sees the writing on the wall for this year. Who know?

Sacre held Duncan to 8 points on like 4-13 . . . can't ask for too much more than that.
He was also playing the third night of a back-to-back-to-back. Would like to see the rebounding get back to the clip we saw in the preseason, and he missed a lot of easy looks on offense, but he's pretty stout in the post, and he's definitely got the size and heart.

sad thread, some sad comments.
kobe is not the type of guy that demand trade when the team fail, he demanded a trade when the FO didn't do anything to put him in position to win and some "insider" from the team called him out on the LAtimes newspaper. this year the FO did everything in their power to put kobe in a good position to win, its just didn't work (as of now) as expected.
so no, kobe won't demand a trade, not after he gave this franchise 5 championships and 7 nba finals, not bad for the 13 pick in 1996.
Kobe is proud to be a laker, in good and bad, he played his ass off to get wins with crap players for 3 straight years, as long as he get the feeling FO wants to win, he is good with the results.

yep, Spurs don't have that superstar (CP3,KD) or a volume shooter (Westbrick) so there's a much bigger chance we could knock them out with Kobe or Dwight having a great individual performance.

This guy is just unreal...he just scores so effortlessly...its amazing...its not that Lebron isnt amazing but Durant has improved so much this season its crazy...hes a really good playmaker now and is just so efficient...i wouldnt be surprised to see him contend for kareems scoring mark

I was thinking about this today. The Lakers are 15-20. Lakers have a stretch of 4 straight home games. It isn't too much to ask to win those games at home even if one of them is OKC. Then after that, they play Toronto at home and Chicago in Chicago. That isn't two much to ask to beat a weak raptor team and an injury riddled Chicago team. If they did that, they would then be 21-20 exactly half way through the season. I take that considering what has happened all of the first half of the season.
Then, the last 41 games, if they just win 3 games and lose 1 every 4 games, they finish at 30-11 for the second half of the year and they end up at 51-31.
Once again, is that too much to ask with a team full of this kind of talent? I dont think so.

Sure this loss is embarrassing, but the only team that we are competing with that won today is Denver (who's going to make it anyway). Portland, Utah, Houston, and Minnesota all lost. It's like today didn't even happen.
Edit: Portland hasn't lost yet, but are down by 8 with 2 min left.

i'm also tired of hearing about people calling kobe old and slow, or anything like that. i'm not saying he deserves more rings, or more calls...but all i know is this: he is STILL probably the best player in the league. he's not the most athletic, the fastest. but he's still better than durant, melo, and lebron. just minus the hype.

People need to calm down and realize we will make the playoffs and probably secure a 6th or 7th spot, possibly 5th with Golden state's steph curry reinjurying his ankle. The lakers will make the playoffs we just need to continue to build chemistry and once the playoffs start anything can happen.
We are only three games out of the 8th spot right now so I hope laker fans here don't keep harping about how we won't make the playoffs.

I truly wasn't expecting to see the reaction this board is displaying after this loss...and I've been around LG for a long time, so chicken-little and P&M is not lost on me...perhaps I should've known better.
This has been a season of disappointments. I wasn't disappointed tonight. This wasn't a moral victory. This was a loss to a superior team, the NBA champions. The fact that the Lakers played exceptionally solid defense in long stretches, kept the game extremely competitive, and Pau showed more activity in his limited time this game than I have seen from him all season....I feel like the team is headed on the right track. Even if this Laker team was a top 3 seed in the West, there really is no shame to losing, and losing close to the reigning champs. After the last 3 games, the WAY the Lakers are playing....I have no doubt in my mind, barring MORE freak injuries, that the Lakers will make the playoffs. I truly hope they play the Clips in the first round, not because it will be a fun, exciting series - but because it gives the Lakers the best shot to advance, gain momentum, and potentially shock the world.
This was a solid effort tonight. All losses are terrible at this point. However, as long as there is some effort and heart - that's all that matters. I'm really surprised that some posters stated that the Lakers had no heart tonight. I thought they played with alot of passion. Their execution was piss poor in the finale, and I'm sure it can't go anywhere but up at this point.

Seriously though, it's depressing watching this team right now. We were a better and more fun team to watch with Sessions (instead of Nash), and Bynum (instead of Dwight). Guess it's not really about star power but overall team balance. Two stars with a solid supporting cast is a lot better than four stars without a clearly defined role.

i just don't get it, i really hate our offense of Nash dribbling in circles. We will never be a great team if we don't give it to Kobe EVERY EVERY possession down the stretch of games, we end up with a stupid falling down layup i don't get it. And once again we go back to kobe only when it's freaking HERO time it gets really old and adds another losss.

I've been wanting to make this post for a while now, but I've been hesitating because of how silly it sounds. I just can't resist now. The evidence, to me at least, is overwhelming.
The NBA is dirty as hell. I'm not talking about gambling (though it wouldn't surprise me, given what has already been proven), but I genuinely believe that the league office directs officials to "focus" on certain things in order to drive the league agenda. Sure, sometimes the league directives benefit the Lakers, and I certainly don't deny that, but there's no doubt in my mind that the ones this year have been put in place specifically to hurt them.
In this case, I think the Lakers doing essentially what the new CBA was put in place to prevent really angered certain owners to the point where they complained to Stern. He then directed officials to emphasize certain things and de-emphasize others. It's not like he's outright calling for officials to throw games, but they're definitely officiating the Lakers differently. Just from how I've seen Dwight and Nash officiated prior to this season, there's a massive difference. Even Kobe, who I don't believe gets the benefit of the doubt that some other stars do, has had some egregiously poorly officiated games (the GS one comes to mind).
Reporters tweeted that Nash was really heated at the officials today because he was getting hacked and not getting a single call. On the play he was most angry about, he kept the ball on his left side since Lowry was stuck on his right hip. Lowry reached in, THROUGH his body (historically an automatic foul), and smacked him on his arm closer to the elbow than the hand. It was as clear of a foul as you'll ever see, but Nash didn't get it. I couldn't even imagine Nash not getting such a call when he was in Phoenix. However, in LA this year, it has been a regular occurrence.
That double technical on Dwight was even worse. Yeah, they got locked up under the basket. That only happens a half dozen times a game. If they called technicals for getting locked up under the basket, Blake Griffin would average 5 minutes a game. While I feel Dwight wasn't officiated fairly in Orlando either, for some of the same reasons as Shaq, it has gotten even worse in LA. The guy gets called for things that are never called on the guys defending him. He also gets some of the absolute weakest technicals I have ever seen. To get kicked out of the game on something like THAT? Ludicrous.
Now, before people jump down my through, I'm not arguing that officiating is our only problem. Far from it. This team has a lot of problems it needs to address. Unfortunately, it's that much harder to get a rhythm when you're playing 5 on 8 some nights. It all comes down to a pattern that I can't ignore. The Lakers are being punished for all but circumventing the CBA that was meant to bring greater parity to the league. It was why the CP3 trade was vetoed despite Stern's insistence that the league would not interfere with the Hornets GM due to a conflict of interest. They thought they had nipped it in the bud, but Mitch is just that amazing of a GM that he made an even bigger splash the following offseason.
Unfortunately, now Mitch and the Lakers are being punished for being savvier than the rest.

these guys play 0 again 0 team defense on a half court set, they get dusted in transition, and can not play the passing lanes for (bleep). I been saying it the whole season, we might beable to survive with pau but not with metta. The guy stops the ball and can not make quick decisions off the pick and roll hockey passes. go look at our old 09-10 tapes, and watch ariza play the perfect SF role.
Most of you will get on me for saying this, but think about it we have NOTHING to lose. Start ebanks and clark. Yes ebanks, he plays nice defense, is a nice cutter, plays the passing lanes and we get much younger and athletic.

I've been wanting to make this post for a while now, but I've been hesitating because of how silly it sounds. I just can't resist now. The evidence, to me at least, is overwhelming.
The NBA is dirty as hell. I'm not talking about gambling (though it wouldn't surprise me, given what has already been proven), but I genuinely believe that the league office directs officials to "focus" on certain things in order to drive the league agenda. Sure, sometimes the league directives benefit the Lakers, and I certainly don't deny that, but there's no doubt in my mind that the ones this year have been put in place specifically to hurt them.
In this case, I think the Lakers doing essentially what the new CBA was put in place to prevent really angered certain owners to the point where they complained to Stern. He then directed officials to emphasize certain things and de-emphasize others. It's not like he's outright calling for officials to throw games, but they're definitely officiating the Lakers differently. Just from how I've seen Dwight and Nash officiated prior to this season, there's a massive difference. Even Kobe, who I don't believe gets the benefit of the doubt that some other stars do, has had some egregiously poorly officiated games (the GS one comes to mind).
Reporters tweeted that Nash was really heated at the officials today because he was getting hacked and not getting a single call. On the play he was most angry about, he kept the ball on his left side since Lowry was stuck on his right hip. Lowry reached in, THROUGH his body (historically an automatic foul), and smacked him on his arm closer to the elbow than the hand. It was as clear of a foul as you'll ever see, but Nash didn't get it. I couldn't even imagine Nash not getting such a call when he was in Phoenix. However, in LA this year, it has been a regular occurrence.
That double technical on Dwight was even worse. Yeah, they got locked up under the basket. That only happens a half dozen times a game. If they called technicals for getting locked up under the basket, Blake Griffin would average 5 minutes a game. While I feel Dwight wasn't officiated fairly in Orlando either, for some of the same reasons as Shaq, it has gotten even worse in LA. The guy gets called for things that are never called on the guys defending him. He also gets some of the absolute weakest technicals I have ever seen. To get kicked out of the game on something like THAT? Ludicrous.
Now, before people jump down my through, I'm not arguing that officiating is our only problem. Far from it. This team has a lot of problems it needs to address. Unfortunately, it's that much harder to get a rhythm when you're playing 5 on 8 some nights. It all comes down to a pattern that I can't ignore. The Lakers are being punished for all but circumventing the CBA that was meant to bring greater parity to the league. It was why the CP3 trade was vetoed despite Stern's insistence that the league would not interfere with the Hornets GM due to a conflict of interest. They thought they had nipped it in the bud, but Mitch is just that amazing of a GM that he made an even bigger splash the following offseason.
Unfortunately, now Mitch and the Lakers are being punished for being savvier than the rest.

I would also add in that no team is Over the top elite, but most teams are very very good. So the days of winning a ton of games are no longer as easy as they were a few years back.
The league has a lot of talented teams and some don't even need a superstar to play well and beat another team. Think of the Wizards beating up Miami.
Think of the Clippers looking so amazing and yet they are still the Clippers.
The NBA is changing, the talent is getting better and the idea of a Kobe or Magic or MJ being so far above everyone else is just not going to happen. Too many guys in the league are playing at a high level. But nobody is standing out like Kobe did 5-6 years ago, or MJ or Magic. Maybe one day we will see a kid come out who is as good as Kobe and MJ but in my mind there won't be the huge distiction where he is worlds above the players around him.
Just in case someone says LeBJ...don't...he is a very good player but he does not possess all the skill sets of the truely elite players. He can travel and he can dunk. He won't take last second shots, he won't weave through double teams or split a zone to score as he is too damn big to do that. LeBJ is just a Blake G with less hair and older...
I can't begin to think how funny this quotation was, talking about being clueless and rose glassed fanboy.

I don't like OKC, Clippers, and Heat. People say we have super team and great players, but OKC/Clippers/Heats also have it. Why do people don't complain about them? Bunch of hypocrite...and this league which manufactures stars in Lebron and Durant make me sick.

And his lack of d on the perimeter exposes our bigs to penetration

Nash- Absolutely finished on defense. Cannot even guard scrubs if they are quick.
Kobe- Simply doesn't have the energy to bail us out like in 05-07
MWP- Barely even an NBA player for these past two seasons. Overrated, average defense and blackhole offense.
Jamison- Still an offense force, but gets burned by any quick 4s.
Dwight- Glass body, no heart, coward.
Pau- Injured
Hill- Injured
Meeks- Shooter who can't shoot
Blake- Average defender, average shooter, average passer. Semi-competent PG at best.

I'm not blindly hating on D12, I'm just saying, would it not make more sense to start an upbeat, positive, energetic Sacre over an injured D12 who's confidence is in shambles? He's obviously not able to play with pain, so let's let him come off the bench and dominate the Bobcat bench.
Much like Clark, Sacre can help energize our team after this tough loss.

Yeah, the Indiana loss by 1 point, and the Orlando loss back in February on Dwight Coward's dunk - both should have been wins. Also consider the fact that 7 of 10 losses between Jan. 1 and Feb. 11 were by 5 points or less, winning 3 of those makes SA a 61-18 team.
Without starting any smacktalk: Dallas has the better record, but both SA and Dallas are 38-11 vs the West. IF Spurs will have any serious problems at all, it will be in the Finals as their weakness this year has been getting bored vs the East.
Spurs going in with more momentum = Spurs 2007 Championship. If SA is 25-3 since Feb. 13, has the best record since the All-Star Break and is actually good, predicting success isn't being a homer.

seriously, can someone do this? make a video that extends through Kobe's entire career, with all the terrible no-calls that go against him. I don't think theres any1 in the history of the league who's even close to getting the lack of respect from the refs that Kobe gets. especially for a superstar, it's unheard of, and it's way too blatant for someone loyal not to make something more of it. players like LeBron get pretty much every single call when they drives it in and get the slightest bit of contact ...Kobe, on the other hand, has become known for driving to the lane, getting hammered, and not receiving the obvious call. I'd say it's almost about 50/50 on whether the correct all gets made when Kobe gets fouled, and thats being generous. does some1 have the access to enough footage to pull something like this off? would be an epic mix to send the league and every official involved.. this really NEEDS to be done.

Its quite comical how quickly theyve all turned on Dwight yet always give Kobe a pass.
Kobe dominates the ball, turns it over like crazy, is either shooting like crazy or wont shoot at all (passing up wide open shots) to get his assists and calls out his teammates when they lose.
He really is the biggest douche in the league.

The great Dr. Jerry Buss is unfortunately nearing the end of his wonderful days. He has worked so hard to make the Laker organization what it is today. It is an honor and a privilege to play for the Lakers and for Dr. Buss. The least you can do is play with some pride and effort.
Instead, you're just whining about not getting the ball enough. But every time you get the damn ball, you either turn it over or get fouled and brick your free throws. Maybe if you had some decent post moves and could make some free throws, you'd get the ball more. Did you ever think about that?
If you are not 100% committed to the Lakers, why should we commit to you? You may say you are committed, but your actions say otherwise. If you don't want to be here, then leave after the season. Leave so we can save the money and roster spot for someone who will be committed and take pride in being a Laker.
