Kobe PRIME vs. LeBron now. Who is better?
Kobe 74% [ 163 ]
James 25% [ 55 ]
Talk about denial ...

...and send it into the league.
seriously, can someone do this? make a video that extends through Kobe's entire career, with all the terrible no-calls that go against him. I don't think theres any1 in the history of the league who's even close to getting the lack of respect from the refs that Kobe gets. especially for a superstar, it's unheard of, and it's way too blatant for someone loyal not to make something more of it. players like LeBron get pretty much every single call when they drives it in and get the slightest bit of contact ...Kobe, on the other hand, has become known for driving to the lane, getting hammered, and not receiving the obvious call. I'd say it's almost about 50/50 on whether the correct all gets made when Kobe gets fouled, and thats being generous. does some1 have the access to enough footage to pull something like this off? would be an epic mix to send the league and every official involved.. this really NEEDS to be done.

That's why the Clippers are annoying, not because of Griffin, but because that b**ch made squad is having success solely because of our point guard.

I can't decide which whiny Lakerfan excuse for the Clippers' success is more annoying: the veto, or :cry "your roster is full of former Lakers anyway" :cry (conveniently leaving out that Odom and Barnes were Clippers before they were Lakers)...
Their collective take: If the best team possible were assembled including the best coach possible, they along with Kobe could win some rings.
It's akin to: With proper diet and exercise, and this pill, you can lose weight.

These are the same guys that were drooling over Nash... they are just now finding out Nash has been washed up for the last 3-4 seasons...

Wait a moment there. They have the best players along with Kobe himself.

No, they needed CP3 you see. If they had him, Howard, Lebron James and Durant, along with Kobe himself, they could win several rings. Right now they only have a scrub in Howard, the shitty Pau Gasol who's benched for Earl "the Spark" Clark, Steve Nash and Ron Artest. They could easily use one more All Star starter.

Yeah, I just counted MVP`s and DPOTYs for Lakers starters and thought that`s enough for Kobe to win next ring. Guess they are lacking of ASG MVP afterall.

RIP Dr. Buss, the greatest owner in sports.
Dr. Buss' condition has been on my mind 24/7 since the announcement, but had this uneasy feeling since yesterday, somewhat concerned worried about loading up LG this morning when my worst fears were realized. Dr. Buss and the Lakers have been such a huge part of my life, it's one of the toughest days ever. Will always remember how friendly he he was to us that day at the Summer League and at Anaheim. I will miss Dr. Buss dearly.
My thoughts are with the entire Buss family.

What are they achieving by doing this...its probably the toughest place to play on a back to back yet we had it twice...

Bump.
Does any other team get the anticipation calls that OKC gets? Kobe was hacked by Ibaka every single drive, yet he didn't get a single call. Who gives a (bleep) about a couple of non-shooting fouls on the perimeter down the stretch? Every time Kobe drove it to the basket and was hacked by Ibaka, they swallowed their whistles.
Meanwhile, when Westbrook drives to the basket, the whistle is blown before the play even happens. That and-1 when he drove baseline was 2006-Wade-level absurd. He wasn't even touched AT ALL. Then Durant gets free throws every time anyone strips him. Too bad Dwight can't get the same treatment when he gets stripped, eh?
I actually like both Westbrook and Durant as players, but I hope one or both go down with an injury just to (bleep) ruin Stern's ever-clearer plan for a repeat finals. The league isn't even being subtle about it anymore.

don't know how to embed lakersground comments, so i just ripped this one
This is in my top three among "81'" and "62 in dallas"....
42, 7 and 12 is not possible. Kobe is not human.
I know this is a RS game against the Pelicans but imo far more impressive than what Lebron did against Boston, he did have 45 pts 15 reb 5 ast but try coming back from 25 down and scoring 42 pts 7 reb 12 ast at 34 years old, not to mention he also shot 67%
Kobe outscored the whole Pelicans team in the 4th, 20 - 0 run
can't make this up
"kobe outscored them in the 4th"
lol pelicans scored 9 the entire 4th. meeks outscored them too

we beat Brooklyn twice (despite their struggles they're a solid team in the West when healthy, we beat em healthy in both games)
we lost against the Spurs by a Game-winner
we won against OKC at home
we beat Knicks on christmas day (that has been owning Miami all season, they did win the last one but needed a big run in the 4th)
we almost beat the Spurs without Pau and Dwight
we beat GSW at their house
we blew out Denver at home
we played really well against Miami at their house, did end up giving a 9 - 0 run with Nash getting trapped at the end
we were down 17 vs OKC at their house and got it within 5, blew a wide open 3 and a fastbreak, OKC needed Westbrick to play at his very best to win and Ibaka to hit a three, not to mention acne running into Dwight for a bogus 6th foul
Moral victories!

http://forums.lakersground.net/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif On the thread that Bodhi posted, that same Clipper fan posted so many comments. Such an asshurt little (bleep).
Goes to show that there really aren't any real Clipper fans - just Laker haters who live in LA and jumped on the bandwagon. No one in their right mind would actually root for a historically comical franchise like the Clippers.

"No matter how many MVP trophies Kobe might collect in the decade ahead"? Crazy, he only got one regular season MVP and then two finals MVP trophies. For all the shit Laker fans talk about how Kobe is better than Duncan (even though they play different positions), Duncan has two season MVP trophies and three finals MVP trophies. Pretty neat, huh?

Best thing that will happen after we're blown out by the Spurs first round is seeing Pau Gasol traded.

This. I think it's too much of a coincidence how often Kobe's getting hammered this year. Yes Kobe's still top 5 (i think) in FTAs, but you can tell he's physically getting a lot more contact.
Yep, if he got touch foul calls like the other guys he'd be scoring even more easily. He wouldn't get as tired since he'd contribute at the foul line more. Instead, he gets clowns who jump into his shot and sprain his ankle without a foul called. Or he gets hacked while driving to the basket and nothing gets called.

No, they've just had to be incredibly superlative in their performance to Overcome that rigging. Rigging the game via the refs can do a lot to influence the outcome, but it can't Guarantee an outcome. The Lakers of Kobe's time just have to beat the refs as well as the other team.
For example, refs can keep their whistles silent when Kobe's on the attack, but, when he can hit amazing shots Despite all the pushing and hacking going on, then the best they can do is limit his scoring opportunity to the made basket without a bonus.
They can also blow the whistle unfairly to slow Laker momentum and give the opposing team more chances to come back or win, but they can't prevent a choking at the free throw line in the closing minutes, and lots of games have slipped away right there.
I think a statue of Kobe in front of the arena should feature hands pulling on his jersey, slapping his head and hanging off his arms as he goes up for a jumper. Nothing would better describe how it is for him and the will to win past it.
Can't tell if this is a sarcastic post, but this is what I'm used to - that we play 5 v 8, but still beat the odds, overcoming major trials and tribulations in the process! Still happy to see most of the posts on this thread are logical.

He knew that coming in and he has to be judged by championship standards.
I have never been to LA but I have been to Charlotte and they love basketball and championships too (hello Tarheels anyone?) so yeah I get that the Lakers are champions and I still think this year could be the beginning of another 3-Pete and getting Kobe past Jordan for rings in total. So not sure what Charlotte or North Carolina has to do with that.
Maybe because Jordan went to college at NC???

LOL like I said before their fans are the biggest fucking idiots on the planet, I am sure of it now. Most of them just Kobe fans too and not LA fans in all reality, they care what he does more than the team.
So true. Many of those idiots are just Kobe nuthuggers, not real LA fans. If Kirby gets +15 FTA's per game and LA still loses the game, the game has to be rigged. Fucking delusional idiots. Against GSW LA had a +17 advantage in FT's, but of course that isn't enough. And that game wasn't even played in LA. Can't imagine the FT differantial if the game was played in LA... but even then probably not big enough for those Kobe dickriders...

The thing is, Kobe doesn't get the calls the way he used to for whatever reason. Then they watch Lebron and Wade get all the calls and the fan base feels theirs a conspiracy against Kobe.
It was even a topic a few weeks ago on John Irelands ESPN show about why Kobe doesn't get the calls he used to.
Personally, I think after he raped Kate Faber, the refs have it in for him.

I don't know what the big secret is. People like to quote the number of titles Kobe has won playing the way he has and how he's #5 in scoring, etc, etc...
None of that changes the simple fact we're a great team when he's dishing 10+ assists and an average team when he's jacking 25+ shots.
Translation: Kobe = reason this team sucks.
Nice work, pjiddy.

NO it wont.
it will be one of the best seasons ever vs tons of inept competition.
its like saying the heat are a solid nba team, but most of these other teams are so flawed personnel wise or just plain hoop IQ. it seems as if the rest of the nba is a D-2 college team.
now some will say "but but the heat are so good they make everyone look inept." not true at all. the heat can press/trap people because other teams either dont have the athletes or dont have the brains to move the ball properly without throwing it across the court to get picked off by hyper athletic guys.
cause if you think the heat are all that based on this streak. then this seasons denver nuggs are a top 20 team of all time.
No one will say that with a straight face. no one will call them a top 30 team of all time.and they were rolling for the same reason. rule changes to make it easy for a ball handler(s). and hyper athletic guys (iggy, tlaw, dreads, mcgee)
the nba is watered down right now. period. the heat streak is impressive just merely because they keep winning. props for that. BUT its not TOp 10 of all time impressive do to their comp. sorry, i aint buying what espn is selling.
You could say the bolded about every season that the NBA plays, there are plenty of inept teams every season. So if you are so sure that the level of competition is so poor, tell me why there aren't other teams doing the same? Is it just the East? Or is the West equally as inept since the Nuggets are rolling off a long streak of their own?
Your "excuses" remind me of a radio show I listened to last night regarding cause and effect. While it is common to think that "cause' leads to "effect" but there is a faction that believe that "effect" leads to "cause". Somthing happens, and we are compelled to create "causes" for what happened. The winning streak is happening, and those who don't like it are busy searching for their own "causes'. All negative causes, of course.
bad logic. i already explained to you why the heat are streaking like they are in comparison to the rest. i never lied on the heat and said they suck. i said they are a very very good team. not great in my book. but you dont have to be great in this era to streak like they are. get yourself a couple of hyper athletic ball handlers + add in todays soft perimeter rules + shooters + add in mobile bigs for defensive purposes . trap/press, run shoot. streak time.
put it this way,
you give me a team with
hinrich(healthy)
jamal crawford
iggy
LO (pre dallas, LOL)
Larry Sanders
nate robinson off the bench
Martell Webster
Quincy Pondexter
Enes Kanter
^^that team can streak just like the heat are streaking right now.
notice there isnt one superstar on that team.
the heat are good, but they would not streak in any era where they had to play a team with a young or prime shaq, young or prime zo, young, young or prime hakeem, young or prime drob(or duncan). i'm not sure they would beat the pacers in 7 with a prime rik smits and prime reggie.
shoot this heat couldnt even beat prime gasol, younger kobe + LO a few years back. and i dont think that laker team was great. they were good. but they would get killed by a young kobe, prime shaq lakers. they would've lost to a prime hakeem and houston team, they would lose to a prime timmy, healthy younger gino, healthy tparker.
and for the record. another team is DOING IT. and they are on the west. the denver nuggs. they are streaking like crazy as well. i meant... WAS. lol they lost last night. what was it? 15 in a row. and we know good and well the nuggs aint a great team. we know good and well the nuggs aint that good in comparison to very good teams of years past. the nuggs are just hyper athletic with a few ball handlers that are also athletic (t.law, and iggy). 4 ball handlers(miller + Gallinari)
think about it, if the heat are a top 5 or 10 team of ALL TIME. what the heck are the nuggs this season? top 30-40 of all time? you know thats not true. but if you want to give the heat the love give it to the nuggs as well. but you cant do that, there is no story line there. a team full of non superstars, thats why you wont give them the same or their proper love if you give all that love to the heat.

Look I have watched the first 3 pete championship tapes of the playoffs each around 35-45 times and I can tell you right here and now Kobe was the most dominant and successful player in that era and it is not even close I mean just go put those DVDs on repeat and don't turn em off and you will see what I see a complete and total dominant Kobe making everyother player look foolish and 3 peting when most kids were still in college or fighting in war or whatever so he has my utmost respect forever. And you can get those videos on amazon.com but their not cheap
I dont understand what 3peating has to do with someone his age fighting a war and why it would garner your respect for that reason. Is fighting is a war suppose to be an immature thing to do?
Well obviously I didn't mean it the way you wrote it I just meant that most kids out of high school either go on to college or do other things like join the military go to community college maybe some of them have children already or whatever that was completely besides the point the point was that Kobe was basically still a young boy out of high school and playing at the highest level and dominating at that level you just don't see that so that is why Kobe has my respect and you are losing it for twisting my words.
oh ok. The whole "fighting in a war" thing threw me off. I agree, Kobe at that age was amazing. Maybe it was because i was young, but i felt that fro Kobe wouldve easily surpassed MJ if given his own team. IMO he changed somewhat after Colorado. Before that incident, he seemed to be a bit more cold blooded and reliable. He had a certain air of confidence (even more so than now) that he lost a little after the trial. I think facing a jail sentence put his life in perspective a bit, he realized there was more to life than just eating your opponents heart out.
I'm sure personally, it was a good revelation for him.

That wasn't me Splitman4evah, I was on LG for 5 years btw with the same username Lakersarethebesteva. I actually am a Laker fan, but I hardly posted there , only had about 3,000 posts in 5 years until finally I started putting more attention on LG and I never realized what a bunch of faggots those guys were. When the Lakeshow were winning ring after ring, everyone was 1 big happy gay family. Once the Lakers sucked it up, everyone showed their pussies.

Lol at Jeffs wishing car accidents on people for playing his precious Kobe too much.
The irony here is that we all know (us reasonable basketball fans) that D'Antoni has about as much control over Kobe's playing time as Jeffs has over his homosexual lust for Kobe Bryant.

Stars never want to come out. I remember watching a clip of Chris Paul literally BEGGING Byron Scott to leave him in the game. Scott told him to sit down. That's what a good coach does.
As for D'Antoni, I'm not the least bit embarrassed to wish him ill. It was obvious to anyone who has ever played basketball that Kobe strained his Achilles in the third quarter. Vitti was right there asking D'Antoni to take him out. Kobe has the ultimate confidence in himself to the point of feeling invincible, but that's why you need a coach out there to reign that in and protect him from himself. Managing the team's minutes is HIS job, not Kobe's.
This is entirely on D'Antoni. He knows full well that he will be fired if the team misses the playoffs. He cares more about that than the health of his players. He didn't even show an ounce of remorse in the press conference after the game. You're damn (bleep) right I hope he gets hurt. (bleep) him

1st off I'm mad, depressed, sad, zoned out, bummed etc.... with what happened to KB. The team has to keep playing through this starting Sun. That being said, how deadly can our starting 5 be knowing there will be crazy ball movement going on between Pau, Dwight, Nash, MWP. I need to think of something else to keep my ass from crying to sleep!

Lakers can still be a solid team, and as a Spurs fan, I still don't want them in the first round. Kobe was never my concern. I don't like the idea of Duncan/Splitter vs. Dwight/Gasol. Duncan's been fantastic this year, but he's too old to perform at a high level over a playoff series against those two. Splitter's been solid, but I'd expect him to get thoroughly dominated on the boards and in quick foul trouble. Clark matches up well with Leonard. And Artest would make Green shit his pants. And with the injuries to Manu and Diaw and the release of Jackson, our once vaunted depth is now thin. Our only matchup advantage is Tony Parker, and given his penchant for choking, I'm not too confident in his ability to have a breakout series.
I dunno, midnightpulp. This is a 'Antoni team, not Phil Jackson's Lakers that mentally knew they could outplay every team in the league.

I'm a grown man, over 30 years old. Been watching Kobe for nearly 15 years. I woke up early this morning in shock. I went back to sleep, and when I woke up again, it sunk it. I wasn't dreaming. This man who I've looked up to for my entire adult life, the iron willed sensation, the indomitable champion, the age defying legend, is down and going under the knife for career ending surgery. And I don't need to imagine how that makes HIM feel because I can read about it on social media. It breaks my heart. He didn't deserve this. I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet ...

It was revenge for Katelyn Faber... and a lot of other things, and there was nothing we could do about it. Faber was a made woman and Kobe wasn't, and we had to sit and take it. Among the Laker faggots, it was real homo shit. They even snapped Kobe's tendon, so his mother couldn't fuck him on the way to the hospice.

You all know the story Kareem injuried himself in game 5 against the Sixers Lakers win the game. Magic steps in as a rookie game 6 and the rest is history. Does this story offer hope that the Lakers can pull off a miracle like this again?

Today, 13th of April, I woke up early in the morning to watch my Lakers give me a special present for my 28th birthday.
As it turned out, Kobe suffered a career changing injury and like most of you, this just broke my heart. It feels like rooting for the Lakers will never be the same. I know it's just sports and it's just an injury, but Kobe was part of my entire childhood, adolescence and early adulthood.
Since I'm living in Germany, getting up for Lakers games in the middle of the night (or early in the morning http://forums.lakersground.net/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) was/is part of my life since 1995. Watching games all by myself while a whole nation is asleep is such a beautiful thing. You just know Kobe will give his all and I could count on him to give me a good time, no matter when and where.
It just feels like life is gonna change from now on... I know the Lakers were still the Lakers after Magic retired, but Kobe was A ACCOMPANYING PART of basically all my memories. Though I somethimes was very harsh with him, you can't ask for more from a player playing for your favourite team.
GET WELL SOON KOBESTER

I'm a grown man, over 30 years old. Been watching Kobe for nearly 15 years. I woke up early this morning in shock. I went back to sleep, and when I woke up again, it sunk it. I wasn't dreaming. This man who I've looked up to for my entire adult life, the iron willed sensation, the indomitable champion, the age defying legend, is down and going under the knife for career ending surgery. And I don't need to imagine how that makes HIM feel because I can read about it on social media. It breaks my heart. He didn't deserve this. I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet ...

I'm so thankful I got to see this kid grow up and give his soul for this team I love. If anyone can come back strong, it is Kobe.

Reading all these posts is like looking into a mirror!!!
I grew up watching Kobe grow from a kid to a man... This is a Facebook message I sent to Kobe when he joined FB last year:
Kobe,
Just want to say me, my dad and my brother are huge fans of yours. We remember the afternoon in 1996 listening to the NBA draft when our Lakers traded Vlade away for a young gaurd out of High School via Philly. I was 13, my bro was 10, you were 17. We immediately identified with you out of all of the other players. Being lifelong Laker fans, we were excited about finally having a player with skills and potential comparable to our beloved Magic Johnson. The rest is history... The early years, those missed shots against The Jazz in the playoffs... 31 points in the rookie game... Becoming an Allstar and busting a one handed behind the back dribble and floater in the Allstar game... The 'Fro years... The Three-Peat with Phil, Shaq, Fish, Rob, Shaw and Foxy...15 threes in one game... The down years/dark years... Phil and Fish coming back.... 62 in 3.... 81 points in regulation...your first and only MVP (I can't believe you didn't get more) back to the Finals with Pau and Lamar 3 times..winning 2... And now getting Dwight rolling with you... So many memories!
We've seen every game that you've played, if not, seen highlights and box scores for all of your games since '96.
I turn 30 this October and you've just turned 34...(happy belated btw)..You've been in our lives as Laker fans for 17 years ... Over half my own life! We've all grown up together in a way and had many trials and tribulations... Successes and challenges.
I've never met you in person, but because we've seen so many of your games, we feel like we know you like you're a cousin... or somthing. I don't know if that makes any sense.
My point is, there's this connection me and my family have to you over your career and many of our great memories involve you and the Lakers.
We may never ever cross paths and meet in person... Everyone has to walk their own path... But with u becoming active on FB, it's feel the need to tell you all that ive just told you and most of all to say this:
Thank you for thoroughly entertaining us and for all the great moments my brother, father and I have had watching you create works of art on the hardwood. You will be remembered forever!
It's great to have the chance to tell you that after 17 years!
Best of luck this season and know that me and mine will be rooting for you to climb to the top of that mountain next June! God bless you and your family.
Sincerely,
Chris C.
That basically sums up the Kobe Bryant era for me. At the risk of sounding emo, the character of Kobe Bryant, the warrior, is imprinted on my heart... And his will is inspiring. I can't wait to see him lace them up once more... Even though there's a sinking feeling inside that says it won't happen. Only God knows.

I have been depressed since last night. I know Kobe will work hard to return as soon as possible. I also know it is not going to be easy for him yet we have gotten so used to his way of being that we are all expecting him to wow us with his recovery and with his play when he returns.
I ask all of you, myself included, to make a pledge to work harder at something else in your own personal life WITHOUT letting any of the other positive aspects of your life suffer.
For me, I believe I am a good father, a faithful and loyal husband and I do my best to always do well at work. However, at times I cuss at my 15 year old son when he gives me attitude, I question my wife if guys are hitting on her at work (on a weekly basis I ask this and she gives me no reason to doubt her), and on top of all that I eat like crap and my weight is starting to creep up. I'm sure i have MANY more imperfections but those are the ones that I am most aware of.
That being said, starting today, and continuing for the 6-8 months it takes Kobe to recover; I am going to begin to eat healthier and start excercizing again. I am going to practice more patience with my oldest son, who is a good teenager just with a bit of an attitude (what did i expect, i raised him to think that Kobes attitude was key to being the best). I will also start to give my wife the trust she deserves and stop making her pay for my insecurities.
I will try to post periodic updates and I hope many of you will join me in here and bless us with your stories and efforts over the next year and a half.
So I will now start you guys off with my "stats" to see how well I can do. I am 32 years old, 5 ft 6 in tall, weigh 216.4 lbs and currently I can run only a mile ON A TREADMILL. The mile takes me 12 minutes and a bit of pain in the knees but I can get through it only because the treadmill is easier than pavement. I currently bench 225 lbs 5 times. Thats a bit low for me but it has been so long since i worked out consistently. 5 years ago I could bench 225 lbs 21 times and I was 16 lbs lighter, yet still a bit chubby back then.
The diet and trust will be my biggest issues. I hope to accomplish some success utilizing you guys as a support group and knowing that Kobe will probably still be outworking me.
Well thats it friends, I hope you all join in. I was as honest with you as I can be and I will be honest with my updates.

ksat's facebook posted the news, and in the comments, someone wrote "Pop asked, Jackson if, he thought if, he was better than Manu & Danny Green? He said, "hell yeah" Pop told him, "that's your problem, you don't know your role". Then they got into a heated argument." that person was asked how they knew this, and she wrote that her son was at the barbershop, and overheard Jackson say that. ...........take it for what it's worth

Agree with Jax in this case. I'm no Jax fanboy, but he's definitely a better player than Danny Green who is worthless outside of his spot up shooter and a guy who plays 1 out of every 10 games and is a threat to break a bone or pull a muscle while ordering take out.

Yeah it's most likely true. We know this because Stephen Jackson made an instagram post that basically confirmed it:
"Thanks to all my fans for the support and love. I would never say a player is better than me when I know their not. Not for no one. #uandiknowwhatsgoingon
#keeponpushin"
Jack was the only Alpha Male on the Spurs' roster. You guys have some skillfully talented players, but they're all finesse (AKA soft) and mentally weak. That's why in 2011, when Memphis was pushing your shit in, players like TP laid down and just took it. That's also why you guys haven't repeated. Scouting report: lay TP on his ass a few times and he'll be tentative if he dare goes through the lane again.
Pop knows this - that's why he is sitting key players against true contenders (Heat game earlier this year comes to mind)... Or sitting TD, TP, & KL against GS on the 2nd night of b2b. I can see TD (to an extent), but not TP - and certainly not 21-year old KL. Why did he sit them? What message is he sending the team? I think it's clear. You guys just lost to a Kobe-less Laker team. If y'all lost a 2nd straight game to a playoff team, it will mess with your team's psyche.
Pop should have played his top guns. They should be "locked in" as the 2nd season nears. They need some mental toughness but Pop is robbing them of that necessary element all contenders must go thru before they become champions.
Jack was absolutely right. He is better than those other guys. He's a champion. Instead of Pop realizing that and respecting that his vet was right, he cowardly sent Jack packing instead of admitting he was wrong.
PJ dealt with way more drama when he was our coach. He didn't resort to the BS Pop just pulled. When the chips are down for you guys - and they will be - who is gonna be there with TD and fight? Jack would have been. Oh well.

Other than that stupid comment, I agree with everything else you said, to an extent (sitting players during the Heat game and Pop's kid glove handling of his players. TD I can understand, since he's 37 and has bad knees, but there's no excuse getting overly cautious with the young guys). Disagree about the GS game. Any good coach is sitting his best players there. Spurs already locked up their seed. Nothing to play for. And if that game did anything for the team's psyche and confidence, it boosted Neal's, something he needed.

I thought that comment would catch your attention. I believe it's true though. You have to be mentally tough to repeat as champions. There is a reason why not too many teams have done it.
But we'll have to disagree about the GS game. You want your main players playing - even if it is for a few minutes and then sit them - to keep them sharp and ready to go. My boys (self-inflicted) have been essentially playing in playoff mode since the all star break. They're on edge. They're backs are against the wall (literally). Your boys OTOH have their seed locked up, but they absolutely have something to play for IMO. You don't want them in the mindset that they have nothing to play for. This leads to complacency. You have to constantly put challenges out there for them. That's what PJ used to do to the Shaq/Kobe teams.
I keep thinking about that GS game. Let's say they lose to GS with all your big guns playing. So what? This is an opportunity to teach the young inexperienced guys on your roster mental toughness. You're Big 3 has been through the battles and have rang. This was an opportunity lost to get your young guys battle tested. B2B game against a playoff team. This is how you get them ready to see who has the cajones to support your Big 3. PJ would have never rested Kobe or Shaq down the stretch. He wanted to keep them sharp as the playoffs drew closer. You don't have to "ratchet up" playoff intensity if you have been playing all along. It's hard to do that if your guys have been sitting. I guess that's the difference between Pop and PJ.

More franchises have repeated than have won 4 or more rings. The Spurs failing to repeat has nothing to do with their lack of mental toughness. Duncan was injured in '00. Derek Fisher hits the luckiest shot in NBA history in 04. And the Mavs just flat out played better than the Spurs in '06. You can say Manu's retarded foul was an example of a lack of mental toughness. But his previous 3 to put the Spurs up was a mentally tough feat as they come. So it balances it out.
But I understand Lakerfans obsession with repeats. Ever since Red disparaged the early 80s Lakers titles with the comment "You're not a champion until you repeat," Lakerfans have been overly concerned with repeats. Celtics always find a way to mind fuck you guys, don't they? In the end, it's about the overall count. And I wouldn't trade the Spurs 4 titles for a 3 peat any day of the week. To bounce back and win a title after failing to defend shows a great degree of mental toughness, especially doing it 3 times. How many 1 and done, and 2 and done champs have there been throughout the years?
I still disagree about playing the top guys in the GS game. Pop had your mentality of "keeping guys sharp" in '11, playing Manu in a meaningless game against Phoenix, and he broke his arm. I agree with your primary point, but the GS game is a bad example. The Spurs are superthin right now and can't afford one more injury to a starter, especially Duncan or Parker.

Such misguided analysis..as much as people don't want to admit it so much of the outcome of games is due to luck. The ball doesn't get tipped out to Horry, Kings probably win..pass to Fisher is defended differently .4 never happens, Manu doesn't foul Dirk etc. Spurs could have four-peated, conversely Wallace doesn't leave Horry, Horry doesn't hip check Nash, and Horry makes the three at the end of game 5 in 2003 Spurs end up winning one title total.
Heres a couple of links about how the results of close wins almost meaningless as a display of a teams quality:

A wiseman once told me that "Only pussies and assholes play the injury card." If that's the case, Magic went down in '89 - or they would have 3peated. :nope
Fisher's shot. There's at least two sides to that story. 1st: Fishers' 3 wasn't lucky. He's proven he can hit that shot because it's in his repertoire as we've seen throughout the years. 2nd: The shot Duncan hit just before was lucky as fuck. He just threw it up and it dropped. 3rd: Goes back to mental toughness. The Spurs didn't play until the final buzzer sounded. They relaxed on defense - thinking the game was won on Duncan's shot - and paid for it dearly. That speaks to lack of mental toughness.
By sitting your players, Pop is indavertently telling his players they can "take days off" and still win (since "they have nothing to play for" as you put it). Well, taking days off is a mindset that leads to "taking plays off" in games at the absolute wrong time - as we saw with that 0.4 playoff thriller.
But I understand Lakerfans obsession with repeats. I think Showtime was the 1st to do it, since Boston did it back in the 16th century. But no, my obsession with repeating has nothing to do with them. Repeating has a ton of variables that must go right in order to happen. Health and mental toughness are the biggest two.
Overall count. Are you finally admitting that 5 > 4? ;)

Accidents can happen at any time. I remember one year Shaq cut himself at home on his shooting hand during the playoffs. It happens. Doesn't matter when it happens. It's part of the game. You don't sit players because you are afraid they are going to get hurt. That's silliness IMO. Besides, that was a freak accident by Manu. He is injury prone though - due to his playing style.

Good points. However, the bolded, again, speaks to mental toughness. Your boys were lackadaisical on that last possession and got burned. I think Pop's coaching breeds that kind of behavior.

See this is the thing...it was never really neccesary to bash Kobe from 08-10 or even 2011 for that matter of fact as a Laker fan. But this year, I felt the D12 signing COMPLETELY exposed Kobe Bryant as a poor leader and a ball hog. I felt as a fan of the Lakers organization and wanting to see them return to the finals, it was better to rebuild around D12 and get a guy like Kyrie, Durant, etc on the Lakers sometime in the next 2-3 years and get back to title contention.
However, 99% of LG is delusional and thinks Kobe can play at an elite level for another 5 years even though he's half the player he was in 2009. So when many of us criticized the ridiculous proposition of building around Kobe for another 3-4 years and insisted Dwight is the only chance this franchise now has, it was a chain reaction of Kobe fags getting their panties moist over it.
99% of these faggots were also happy that D'antoni was signed over Phil and pretended it was a good decision. Most people simply just don't understand basketball.

:lol Proven he can hit that shot. :lol "Not lucky." When has a shot like that ever been made in NBA history? When has Derek Fisher ever made a shot like that before or after? And tell me how the Spurs "relaxed" on defense?
Watch the play again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSnAvhvfniw
Kobe is bottled up. Rasho sealed off Shaq to prevent the lob. Duncan cut off the passing lanes to Shaq and Malone. And Manu stayed right with Fisher and was half an inch away from blocking the shot.
But having the luxury of hindsight bias, Kobe probably should've been singled covered, with Horry in front the inbounder, hands up in the air. Because Kobe has a longer body than Fisher, I don't think he would have enough time to turn and shoot.
Sure Duncan's shot was lucky. But the Lakers out-lucked the Spurs, proving my point about how many things a team needs to go their way to win a championship, much less a repeat. To bounce back the very next year and win it after that heartbreaker is mental toughness personified, and against the very team that slaughtered your boys a year earlier :)
As for the other debate, we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm with you on criticizing Pop's penchant for resting players during the regular season when a playoff seed is still at stake, but playing your top guys in meaningless situations (Thibs keeping Rose on the floor in garbage time) isn't an intelligent thing to do. To jeopardize your chances at a championship for the purpose of "keeping guys sharp" is foolhardy. These guys are professionals, and should be "sharp" regardless of whether or not they play in the last games of the season.
Besides, it's been shown that how you enter the playoffs has no correlation with championship success, as Clipper Nation pointed out earlier.

Oh dude, I'm not complaining about people that are in love with Kobe, the dude is a competitor and a great player, yes he has aged quite a bit, but he has glimpses of greatness. My complaint is about the people that are literally IN LOVE with Kobe, I don't think I've ever been so creeped out after reading that link you posted about the guy that wants to better himself because Kobe is doing the same thing or something; I dunno, I stopped reading half way through because I felt like I needed to go take a long shower after reading it.

It hurt you, but, it's a moot point for us. It was a means to an end that did not happen, so .4 is without worth.

This is as bad as we've seen the Lakers play in weeks, and they still managed to stay within striking distance the whole time.
The Spurs won on hustle but domination? There wasn't one moment in this game that was the case...

I don't mean to be a dick but I just can't believe a man who has a wife and kid, probably a job\career going for him can actually be depressed over a multi gagillionaire like Kobe Bryant. I completely understand as a fan of the Lakers these are very BORING and DEPRESSING times. But I have friends of mine right now who are on the verge of losing their fathers due to strokes. I think those are REAL problems, not Kobe Bryant and the Lakers losing.
As Jerry Sloan once said, after being asked if this was the most hurt he had been after losing in the playoffs,"Losing my father was the most hurt I've ever been, this is just a game."
bump. They are mad out there and still delusional. Talking about refs rigging this 31 points blowout. :lmao

No... Refuse to play for the team you're drafted by and threaten to hold out until they trade you...
