Dude, just look around you, talk to anyone involved with this, try and sell...a boy doesn't need a father...watch the reaction you will get.
Judging from the feedback I'm getting in this thread, I've apparently succeeded.
Nobody is going to buy a son doesn't need a father, you know that.

What Every Son Needs from His Dad
Posted by Carey Nieuwhof (http://www.orangeparents.org/author/careynieuwhof/)
http://www.orangeparents.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/father-and-son-fishing-494x329.jpg
I have sat down with a lot of guys in their thirties who are trying to piece together the story of their relationship with their dad.
Many of these guys are successful, but there’s something missing inside of them. I’ll never forget one guy I’ll call Josh, near the top of his game in the industry he was in, who said to me, “I just don’t understand why my dad left when I was three. What was wrong with me? I feel like I’ve spent my whole life trying to make up for something he never gave me. I just want to know my dad.”
Somehow—maybe by design—almost all men long for a strong relationship with their dads. Some guys have an incredibly strong relationship with their dads, but more often the story goes like this:
“He worked so much I rarely saw him.”
“I wish at some point he would have told me he was proud of me.”
“We were just never close.”
One of the things my dad did so well growing up was to show confidence in me. From the time I was little, I wanted to be able to drive (what guy doesn’t?). On my 16th birthday, my dad took the morning off work, took me to get my license, and then told me to get behind the wheel.
He had a few clients to see in Toronto, two hours south of where we lived at the time, and to my surprise told me to start driving. I kept asking him if it was time to pull over and let him drive, but he told me to keep going. I almost pulled the car off the road myself as we neared Toronto, but he insisted I could do it. I drove right through the city into the downtown core and back again. Talk about a confidence booster—and a relationship builder.

Fathers are different from mothers (http://life.familyeducation.com/boys/mothers/55775.html). They look different, they sound different, they play in a different way, and they usually have a different approach to raising children than a mother does. And that's a good thing. A boy learns from his father (http://life.familyeducation.com/family/fathers-day/36138.html), without even realizing he's doing it, what a man is and does. He learns about masculinity, about what men like and don't like. Many adult men report that they either wanted to be "just like my dad"—or wanted to be his exact opposite. Fathers undoubtedly have a powerful influence on their growing sons, and it begins from the moment of birth (http://life.familyeducation.com/infant/fathers/40405.html).

It's real simple, I have too many interests, been too many places, seen too many things, read too many books, for someone on your level to cope with. Too many nights in jail, too many car wrecks, too many women, too many drugs, too many fights, too many jobs, know/known too many people. Can talk in depth about too many things. Can you talk about the origins of the AFL, of course not. Can you talk about the first black authors to be published, of course not. Can you talk about that athlete who held the American record in the 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and the mile, of course not. Can you talk out the first country and western recordings, hell no. How about the origins of the sci fi novel, the comic book, the sports card...well? How about that slave fighter who became a world champion contending boxer? There are so many things we do a woman simply isn't going io be doing.
Don't make light of tossing a ball around, working on a car, wrestling, video games, poker, simply goofing around. A woman can't talk about a fly pattern, that old WCW, auto transmission vs a stick, an inside straight.
Hell, just today I was telling Mason about John Lee Hooker (tape in the truck) and them urban blues.
Get real, ok?
I find it very hard to take seriously any argument that is dependent upon the premise that learning about the WCW is somehow make-or-break in the successful development of a young boy.

It's not so much about you as it is about everyone.
Well, that's just sad. It must be very lonely to have no one with whom you can communicate or connect. However, you can only blame yourself because you're so insecure that you have convinced yourself that some detailed knowledge of a few specific subjects makes you an interesting person. I am just not a person that values people who are so wrapped up in their own ego. I shed that shit a long time ago and I just don't want to waste the energy required to have people like that in my life.
Listen, fella. We all have our hobbies and interests. Some people know a lot about track & field, some short-time-constant astrophysics . . . but, it doesn't really matter. How does that help you connect with people? Do you even care about that, or do you just want to talk over everyone and spew trivial factoids in an effort to impress people. I got to tell ya, nobody likes that guy. Nobody wants to hang out with that guy. I know . . . "I have tons of friends and my wife and son think I'm the greatest man in the known universe." . . .
You shouldn't be so dismissive of people. Some people have had really interesting lives. I'm talking about the kind of people that you probably never notice because you are too self absorbed or maybe they just don't care who Thelonius Bush is . . . the kind of people who don't really want to listen to some guy talk out of his ass about the history of the HBCU. While you are busy blathering about the origins of the AFC, you are missing out on talking to someone who played high school football in Texas at a historical time. I'm talking movies made . . . books written. Wouldn't you rather have a conversation with someone who boxed in Golden Gloves and the USNA for two years, or talk about dem ol' slave fighters? What about someone who has toured the country in a van, playing music for thousands of people? No, I guess that's not very interesting . . .
Look, I'm sorry I don't take you seriously, but I dont. I'm sure you know a lot about all that stuff you're always trying to impress everybody with and I'm sure your wife and kid love you, but life isn't about collecting little bits of information that we occupy our minds with . . . everybody does that it's part of our brain chemistry. It doesn't make us unique or interesting. I get how you feel that I am immature by the way I interact with you, but I think I have adequately explained the reasons why I behave that way with you. That's just the way it is, partner. I don't know what else there is to say about the matter.

Adrian Peterson
Still not sure how a kid from Texas, with that kind of talent ended up at Oklahoma. Yep...curious! At over 6-0 200 pounds with legit 10.4 speed the cat is a load. Yep the total package. If he can stay healthy, no telling what he'll accomplish. A 2000 yd season ....sure!
I keep hearing about who he resembles. No not Eric Dickerson, he's too shifty. Way faster than Calvin Hill or Ottis Anderson. Way faster than Chris Warren or Chuck Muncie. The thing about Peterson is that he doesn't run like a big guy. He makes moves usually reserved for smaller backs like a Barry Sanders or a Marshall Faulk. So I guess the word "unique" would fit and no he doesn't resemble anyone else.
What a shame he had to come along at a time when the Vikings had no QB or stud receivers. If they had a more balanced attack, he'd be even more effective.
I think it's safe to say that Peterson is already one of the top four backs in Vikings history.
So lets see....(not going back to pre 50's)

No doubt Dickerson/Dorsett/Sayers had great speed. Just don't have anything concrete as far as their track speed goes.
Then there's Napolean Kaufman, Justin Fargas and Reggie Bush who all ran in that 10.4 world as high schoolers. Peterson had a legit 10.3?
Then there was...
James McAlister a 27-0 footer out of UCLA. Didn't make it. Stone Johnson the Olympian /WR 200 man out of Grambling, died due to some injury. San Jose State's Ken "10.0" Thomas was injured....poof!!! Once beat Clancy Edwards!

Hmmm?
Leroy Russell
Leroy came from a screwed up (3 brothers 2 sisters) family, they were into drugs andalcohol, they were always in trouble, no father in the home. Leroy was short and powerful, rarely went to school, yep...a thug. One day at track practice here comes Leroy with some of his fellow thugs. One of the them..."Leroy can outrun any of you guys". So our league champ a 10.2yards guy..."ok how much?" Being kids we didn't have any money so we scrounged round and came up with 20 bucks among (borrowing money) us. Where Leroy and his posse got 20 bucks..???
So there's our sprint champ in his track gear vs Leroy with his pant legs rolled up and bare foot. I was the starter and did have a stop watch. We had no starter pistol, so it was...ready, set...GO!!!!!!!!!!
Leroy expoded, race over!!! Not even close. DAMN....so how fast was it....9.8!!!!!!!!!!!
The thugs ..."ok pay up! " Leroy looking cool and calm, asked..."how fast man"...I replied...9.8. He just frowned and walked away. The tallest of his posse (had blood shot eyes) smiled and said....we just left the college (COS) Leroy ran a 9.7 over there and beat Early (Ocie Early a 9.9 guy). That's where we got our 20 bucks http://i4.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Then they all turned and walked away.

The OP.
When my daughter calls it's usually.."hey dad, is mom around?" When my son wants some advice, watch the rasslin', toss the ball around, it's him and me. There are just some things where a daughter needs her mom and a son needs his dad. No teenage girl wants to talk to dad about her little situation. No boy wants to come to his mom over that school bully.
I know here's where we read....
If they both love the child, that's all that matters.
Stats have proven that kids who are adopted by gay parents do just as well...............
I find that hard to believe. Just yesterday....
Mason...wanna wrestle?
me...I'll just kick you ass.
He can't play that with mom, he can't go to the movies to see....The Avengers, Ironman, The Hulk, Thor...with mom. He can't drink a beer (at 19) with mom, hell, we have to sneak around. He can't talk about girls with mom. He can't...that Ryback (rassler) is a monster, he's bigger than you...with mom, she has no clue who Ryback is. Mom can't teach him how to fight, lift, play ball. How to play some harmonica, slide guitar.
Imagine two gay guys trying to raise a little girl, come on, that ain't right.
Shouldn't a child have the right to be raised in a normal setting? Would it be fair to them to deprive them of a mom or a dad? Why would anyone want that for a child?
As we all know kids can be cruel, showing up at some school function with your two dads, we all know how that's going to go.
If at all possible you place a child in a traditional home setting, that would be with a mom and a dad. Anything else isn't fair to the child. It was all about you, dumbass.
It's clear the College of the Sequoias was not the most selective school around.

I'm not skimming through 15 pages just so my comment isn't exactly the same as someone else's. But, there are a lot of kids in foster homes with no where to go. There are a lot of kids who are living below the poverty line. There are a lot of kids who are in single parent households. There is an argument that has merit which says, men and women need positive role models from their particular gender. Hell, there's an argument which has merit that says, kids need positive role models from each gender. Both I agree with.
But that doesn't mean it's an absolute necessity for those role models to derive from the immediate family unit. Although, there is an argument (not to say it's a correct argument, as I haven't explored it extensively) to be made that, it would be more beneficial for both positive role models to be present in the traditional sense (all other aspects equal) because it's more tangible on a day to day basis. But that doesn't take away from the legitimacy of a same sex household. If same sex couples have the means to provide for kids that need homes, or their own children, then there's really nothing to talk about. And I also take issue with hetero households that can't properly provide for their children.

The work "need" sticks out to me. If a same sex couple is an option, I wouldn't say it's a need. Both are viable options, and I'm not sure if one trumps the other if both role models exist to some extent.

Let's get real, these kids need the best possible world to be reared in, that isn't putting them in an abnormal one. Simply common sense.
Dysfunction can emerge from any family structure, including a traditional one. So I can't sit here and say one is preferable, especially since there isn't a vast history of same sex families to compare to the traditional family. But, there are kids that emerge from same sex families that function just as good as, and superior to, kids that emerge from a traditional unit.

So you are telling me it's fair to a child to deprive them of having a mom and a dad. Right?

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The way you label same sex relationships as abnormal is an interpretation issue. You're implying a drop off in standard. I have seen nothing which indicates children can not mature just as good as children who grow up in a traditional family setting. If you have some sort of substantial evidence, please show me.

No not really. There is something special between a father and his son, same with a daughter and her mother. I can't believe you aren't aware of this.

How many here also don't talk basketball?
I'd say you're in a very small minority on here...
So why do you care..sooooooooooooooo..damn much about what anyone does here?
You're sadly mistaken if you truly think being told to stop flooding the boards with your shit threads equates to us actually giving a shit about your opinions or interests....
You don't start threads
It's funny how you switch from telling me I never start threads to pulling up old threads I've started depending on which one suits your lame attempt at an argument....
you don't actually do anything here but bug me, why is that?
The vast majority of my total posts (63% of them to be exact) have been in the NBA Forum, a part of the site that you've never even ventured into.... I mainly just lurk the Club, but when I see a shit thread, I enjoy calling it out.... doesn't mean I devote all my time to "bugging you" - don't flatter yourself, fatty :lol
I watch the Final Four tourney and the NBA playoffs. Those are my lazy sports the ones I don't boogle my mind over, just for fun.
If you have to "boggle your mind" to come up with your atrocious NFL takes, you have some serious problems, son....
You are dying. you have to put your kids in a foster home, are you going to want them in a traditional family setting or a gay world?
I would want my kids to be with a set of parents who loves them and will take proper care of them, doesn't matter if they're gay or straight.... the only people who would actually worry about the sexual orientation of the parents are bigoted Jeebotards such as yourself, tbh.....

It's only "not an argument" to you because you don't have an argument.... homosexuality is a natural condition that is not only inherent at birth in some people but has also been found in various animal species - it's absolutely not the abnormal mutation you seem to think it is....
