That certainly could be it. Lalanne is supposed to be 6'10", and LJC looked (to me) to be the bigger guy when they were on the court together. Maybe it's just the bigger frame and longer arms.

Nah it's not that. Lalanne has even longer arms; his wingspan is 7'5". He also weighs a little more than LJC (240 vs. 230).

I honestly think LJC is just flat-out taller. DX has Lalanne listed at 6'8.25" without shoes...wouldn't surprise me if LJC is taller than that. He looked like it out there yesterday.

Think he can make the Big team?

I'm hoping. Spurs need a shooter. Some on here think it is a possibility, a few others feels he is athletically limited. I would expect he'll get a training camp invite. Then we'll have to see.

Think he can make the Big team?

I think he has eight or more games left to show he can do it consistently. This is the longest summer-league season I can remember the Spurs having. If anyone is consistently good for this stretch, I think we'll see them in an NBA camp. Bertan's key to making a roster seems to be being able to defend bigger players. If he can guard two-guards, I think he will be able to do at least what Neal has done.

The Spurs have an opening for someone who can make 3's and run point. The team had an interest in Jeremy Lin.

However, he's a rookie and the likelihood of the Spurs trusting a rookie to run point is next to zero.

He is a rookie from the point of view of the NBA game. Spurs will not risk championship lay wit a rookie point guard... just does not happen. He's good and I like his fearlessness, but I just don't see him running the Spurs offense.

Is Dairis under contract, overseas?

So said Bruno . But the buyout is small enough.

He sure can pass the ball like a point guard from what I've seen...But do ya'll really think he'd be more of a defensive liability at the 2 than Neal or Belinelli?

Is Dairis Bertans someone who can play as a Point Guard
or is he a SG ?

If he makes the team at times he'll be asked to do both.

Bruno says he is. But it is relatively trivial to buy him out.

Dairis played for Bilbao Basket last season in the spanisch league ACB

Well Dairis Bertans is interesting, I thought he was a courtesy invite since SA has the rights to his younger brother Davis but he did play well yesterday. I also thought it was curious that an earlier poster who claims to be from Latvia says he (Dairis) is the better player.

It would be interesting if Dairis was brought in on a partially guaranteed contract and then cut to make room for Davis later in the year when Davis is healthy.

Regarding Livio, during the first half of the game, I was thinking Livio may mean brick in French but I did like what I saw on the defensive end.

He was playing both yesterday.

I think he might be the Spurs Gary Neal of this Summer League. He is quicker than Neal, a better ball handler than Neal, a better passer than Neal, and from what I saw yesterday, a better defender than Neal. He reminded me a lot of Mills with his scrappy play and quick/no hesitation release. He already has a great shooting form so Chip wouldn't have to totally revamp it like Kawhi and Anderson.

I was thinking the Spurs needed some depth at the guard position and he would be perfect. He is 6'4 1/2 w/o shoes. The guy shot 43% last year for Boston from 3 and 66% overall in last year's summer league. So it appears that his shooting performance last night was no fluke.

Spurs need to fill their roster with Minimums right now. He would be a perfect fit. He can hit the corner 3, hit 3's off of screens and PnR. He can pass very well (a must in the Spurs system). He looks like the perfect candidate to replace Beli IMO.

How does the cost of a buy out work with regard to the cap? As we will be maxed out and can only sign minimum contracts, does a buyout affect this?

I don't think so. I think teams are allotted 500k to put to a Buyout. It looks like Bertans buyout is not that much as he is in his last year of his contract.

Teams can spend up to $650k on buyouts. They can spend more if they have the means, but it counts as part of the player's salary. It shouldn't be an issue with someone like Bertans, though.

Bertans is a free agent ( I guess undrafted ). What does that mean in terms of counting towards the salary cap?

KA sags back off his man on D to make up for his slow footspeed. In the NBA he's gonna give up a ton of uncontested 3s to guys who can shoot. I'd LIKE him to be better, but the more I see him, the more I think his only skill is passing and BBIQ.

He should look for a job in coaching.

Dairis is SG who can play also as PG.. He is good defender... Tougher than Davis.. Davis is just tall spot up shooter... But Dairis is doing everything on the court... Never gives up... He can do much more than Marco, but only if coach trust in him...
But need ti wait nex games... because very often latvians go tu USA and got over burned... and than can't show the best game...

Interesting. Is Davis soft? Do you think Davis is NBA ready (when healthy) what do you mean by over burned? Are you saying they get overwhelmed by the talent level they're not used to?

Peace

Peace From what i've seen Davis seems soft.. NBA ready? I think he can do something like Bonner..
I meant that they are too much thinking about how to prove themselves. You know, it's a big opurtunity for eastearn europeans..

Yep, and it should also be a good chance for LJC and Cady to play inside, as they should be facing a worse front court.

I want to believe that LJC just had a bad shooting night, hopefully he can get low and make some things happen. I suspect Cady will have a much more accurate game down low tonight. The guy just has an "it" quality to him.

I don't really care what the two do on offense, I only care how they fare in defense. I just can't see Cady posting up his man while playing with a team that includes Aldridge, West and Duncan.

LJC just needs to do more inside. I think he'll be good finding cutting lanes and in the PnR. With Cady being trigger happy, he should find plenty of space to go inside.

I agree, he's got to show the same instincts on offense as defense. If he can cut, catch, and finish in the lane, then he doesn't need a jumper right away to get minutes. Spurs need players who can attack. I still can't believe LJC is showing more promise than Kyle "Lottery Talent" Anderson!

Davis is just tall spot up shooter...

You must have not seen much of him last season then. He is definitely not just a stand still jump shooter. A big part of Baskonia's offense revolved around running him off screens. His one dribble pull up also looked decent and he threw down some nice dunks in transition.

Clearly he has to improve defensively but I'm not sure why you are so down on him compared to Dairis.

He has the quickness but does he have the footwork to do damage.. His IQ for the ball will need to increase and hopefully he'll have better hands in this game.
