I had planned to open this thread but i thought it's too early for that. :)
The biggest favorites are definitly Spain, Serbia and France. From Spurs point of view, would be interesting to watch France (TP, Diaw) and Serbia (Boban, Milutinov, Dangubic). Dangubic and Milutinov aren't sure for final 12 roster (I give 5% to Dangubic) but if nothing else, they will play in frendly games before Eurobasket. First matches Serbia will play at the beginning of August. One of preparatory games, i think, Serbia will play vs. France.

You Euros should dominate this thread with pics and news about your teams and whatever else you can find. :tu That's a nice thing of having the registration being open again. My favorite player is Teodosic. Made a fan of me last year. :tu

That was my plan :) I will try to cover better i can, first of all Serbia, then France and other teams. Maybe later or tomorrow (it's 1:25 at evening, morning, night, (whatever word you use for that) in Serbia) will put full rosters of all teams and other stuff.

Normally I wouldn't have started this thread but Bobo posted that pic and I didn't where to post it at. With training camps already starting for some teams, this thread is probably long overdue. :lol

Pretty much. But last year he's not went on World Cup (Mundobasket) with team, so can tell u exactly how many. But i expect from him to play at least 20 minuts per game.

If i had to guess maybe..maybe 8-10 mins. It also depends who is and who isn't playing. He should see the floor though as he will go through training camp. Remember when we signed Baynes mid-season, there was talk of how come he wasn't seeing the floor. People forget that training camp is imperative to the knowledge of the Spurs' system.

Yes, i know what do u think. I know that too, just...i can't admit it to myself. :D That's probably true, but there is still time for him. I really believe that he'll win Euroleague one day.
About last F4 and match vs Oly... it was Itudis's mistake more than Teo's. He was pull Teo out of game and not give him chance almost by the end of match. And a whole season was based on Milos and his game. With that move at the end, he betrayed himself, his game tactic and also Milos.

He got call from SA medical to come again in USA to do some extra tests.
Apparently, they were upset by the information that Boban played final of Serbian PO with broken foot. Thereby, Spurs are prohibit Boban any activity for 30 days, jeopardizing his appearance at Eurobasket.
"To be honest, i'm afraid of their stance. They will maybe make a problem, because it's obvious that Americans (he thinks on Spurs medical) exaggerate. If they stay with their stance, Boban's appearance on Eurobasket will be questionable", said Djilas (president of Serbian basketball federaton).
Obviously just a ploy to get Milutinov on the roster. :stirpot:

Does that FibaTV still exist? I remember using that years ago to watch one of the World Championships. I think it was 5 or so years ago that I last used that.

"It showed medical examinations in Milan, which are oversaw by the doctors of San Antonio, and after which he signed a professional contract. Also, Boban is reviewed by our medical committee headed by Dr. Radovanovic and have made all of tests, from scaners, MRI to all possible examinations at which all the results were negative.", said Djordjevic.
However, the problem still exists, because the famous NBA team was explicit to Marjanovic appears to additional inspections.
"From the medical team San Antonio we have received email request to forbid Boban to train for next six to eight weeks, and we went out to meet them to appear on Thursday in Los Angeles for an examination. We do not know on what basis did that request because with Marjanovic, I repeat, all right. It is not force majeure, but a force. It is absolutely something more than a basketball, something you can not influence", Djordjevic said.
BTW Aleksandar Djordjevic is legend of Serbian, European basketball and currently head coach of Serbian NT.

It's very surprising that Spurs didn't know about that broken foot when they signed Marjanovic. A broken foot, if it's really that, is a career altering injury for a basketball player.
Spurs are strict rules when it come to injuries and NT:
1) They don't let a player go with his NT if he isn't 100% healthy and if there is a risk to aggravate a previous injury.
2) They only trust their own medical staff.
Spurs won't change their mind about Marjanovic. He will need to come to SA and be evaluate by Spurs' doctors. If his foot is as good as new, he will allowed to play the Eurobasket, otherwise he won't.
Bruno
07-27-2015, 10:45 AM
If they want him to travel to LA, it's likely to be seen by the same doctor that did the surgery and Ginobili's and Mahinmi's ankles (Richard Ferkel). He is Spurs' specialist for the ankle/feet issues. And if what Serbian NT staff is true, it won't be a that big deal and Marjanovic will be cleared to play for his NT in a couple of days.
Boban may not necessarily like it, but it sounds like good due diligence to me. The Spurs just invested good money in this guy and are counting on him to fill the Baynes role, and they should be absolutely positive he is healthy if he is going to play Euroball. If he's not healthy, then like Bruno said, they will treat it just like they would any other Spur.

It's problem this shitty statement now. Not injury. Here is what Misko Raznatovic (https://twitter.com/MiskoRaznatovic) (Boban's agent) said:
http://i.imgur.com/aUZfCkr.png
Which mean:
1. Last week, Bobans successful past medical tests in Milano, organised by Spurs. Afther that, he joined Serbian NT.
2. After media reports about Boban's playing with stress fracture, SAS send another request for new test in America this week.
3. After results from those tests, will be known Spurs stance about this unfortunate situation.
4. Last test of player, done by our (Serbian) doctors, show that the injury is fully rehabilitated. So we can hope for the best.

It happened in 2009 when TP had a sprained ankle he had to leave the French National Team for a few days, got cleared to play, sat out a few friendlies and then played the eurobasket. So I believe Bruno is right if his foot has indeed healed he will be able to return to the Serbian team.

If you are interested to watch as many games as possible I would definitely recommend getting a subscription. There are only so many group stage games that can be televised. But if you just want to see the later stages of the tournament it's probably not necessary as some kind of US broadcast should be available.
One thing to consider is the time difference, most prime time games over here will be taking place in the afternoon for the US. So having the ability to watch archived games might be more useful to you.

From the other tweets, Marjanovic foot isn't broken and there isn't sign of a fracture. His foot is just quite swollen. Marjanovic will travel to SA where he will meet another specialist Tuesday. Spurs will bring that specialist to SA just to see Marjanovic. We will know after that if Marjanovic will be able to play the Eurobasket.
So, it's a good news and Spurs are taking this issue very seriously which is understandable with the potential consequences of a foot injury.

Russian basketball federation is a huge mess with a fight for its presidency and that's why they are banned.
Hwoever, Russia should play the Eurobasket. FIBA is just putting pressure on them. If they solve their issue in the next week, they will be unbanned during FIBA next meeting.

"Our team was informed on the medical conclusion - that Boban Marjanovic should not be allowed to play at the European Championship, and coach of the national team of Serbia Aleksandar Djordjevic will not be able to count on the center of Spurs."
But, this is unofficiall info, and we are waiting for Misko Raznatovic, Boban's manager, or someone from Serbian NT.
/EDIT
It is official (http://www.kss.rs/saopstenje-kosarkaskog-saveza-srbije-povodom-zabrane-nastupa-bobanu-marjanovicu-na-ep-2015/) now. :@

Misko Raznatovic on twitter (https://twitter.com/MiskoRaznatovic):
We are totally disagree with the opinion of San Antonio and it is the absurd. We're trying to prove that the MRI results of feet are the same as two years ago, and that what they saw was not a result of injury, but the natural structure of the foot of 222cm tall human being.
If we succeed in our efforts, which are the maximum, we are ready to go in war, despite a very difficult text of the contract between FIBA and NBA.
I trust him.

I'm not sure at all Spurs will appreciate Serbian federation publicizing these kind of documents. With Marjanovic, Dangubic and Marjanovic, they will likely interact quite a lot in the future and they surely aren't starting off on the right foot (no pun intended).
There than that, it sounds like it's not a serious injury and Spurs are just taking their usual very safe road when it comes to NT. When there is some kind of doubts, players aren't allowed to go with their NT. What will be interesting is how Marjanovic will react to that. NT might be important for him but this year is also crucial for his career. With a good rookie year in SA, he could land a $10M+ contract next summer.

Basketball Australia is excited to announce that NBA Championship-winner Patrick Mills has been added to the Australian Boomers’ team to take on New Zealand in the 2015 FIBA Oceania Championships.
Mills comes into the line-up following a left ACL tear to Dante Exum in last Wednesday’s game against Slovenia, reducing the Boomers to 11 players.
Talking from the United States, Mills said that he was excited by the opportunity to play for automatic qualification for Rio 2016.
“I’m looking forward to joining my Boomers teammates for this very important qualification series against New Zealand,” he said.
“Playing for my country has always been an honour for me.
“Obviously my shoulder injury last year meant that I had to continue intensive rehab and quality training over the past few months. I've done that and will be ready for the Oceania Championships.
“My focus now is helping my Boomers teammates qualify for Rio 2016.”
The unfortunate timing of Exum’s injury in what was the last match of the Boomers’ European Tour meant that any replacement player will not have been present for the four Internationals against Lithuania and Slovenia. These extenuating circumstances have resulted in Mills’ late call-up to the Boomers team.
Boomers’ head coach Andrej Lemanis considered the options which included going with a reduced team of 11 or, bringing in a player at this late stage just days out from the series against New Zealand’s Tall Blacks.
Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Lemanis explained:
“The caveat is always what’s in the best interest of the team. This group has spent time together building a synergy and adding a piece to that obviously needs to add value so we need to work through that.”
Having spoken with Mills over the weekend, Lemanis added:
“Although Dante’s injury is still fresh in our mind, we need to adapt quickly and move on as our focus now is on beating New Zealand.
“Patty is the best-placed player to come into the team quickly,” Lemanis continued. “He’s an elite player, an NBA Champion and seasoned at International play and importantly, knows the Boomers’ system and style of play.
“If we were going to add a player to replace Dante, we needed someone who can help us beat New Zealand and that is Patty Mills.”
Just 500 tickets remain for Saturday’s double-header, dubbed the #homecoming, at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena where the Jayco Australian Opals and the Australian Boomers play New Zealand. If sold out, the all-important games will result in one of the largest crowds for a basketball match in Australia in over 15 years. The event will be broadcast LIVE and FREE on the Nine Network’s Gem Channel.
The Boomers will join the Jayco Opals on Tuesday August 11 from 4pm at Melbourne’s Southbank, Queensbridge Square, in a not-to-be-missed fan event. Several thousand Boomers’ and Opals’ supporters are expected to be out in force to welcome the teams to Melbourne ahead of Saturday’s game at Rod Laver Arena.

This reminds how ridiculous it is that the Oceania (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_FIBA_Oceania_Championship) region (aka Australia and New Zealand) gets a berth for the Olympics while Europe only gets two (direct) berths. They should adopt FIFA's approach of putting Oceania and Asia together.

No, keep the direct spots. New Caledonia and Guam are legitimate competition.

China, Iran, Korea, Philippines would all be tougher opponents than New Zealand. But I agree that Australia should beat all those teams handily. It just feels like gifting away a spot right now.

Utah didn't use their pick to draft him, they traded for him (I don't remember what was the counterpart, but it was something like a bag of burrito and 2 pictures of Jeff Ayres).
If the spurs really wanted him, they probably could have find something to outbid the Jazz.

Easy assumption, but not really, having in mind the Spurs don't buy draft picks. There's nothing to suggest the FO have even had the money needed to buy the pick at their disposal even if they wanted to do it.

It's funny, every time I see Gobert block a shot I hear Mutombo's voice "Not in my house!".
What you say is true, Gobert already has comparable per36 stats with Mutombo, a little bit less rebounds, a little better FG%. But Gobert just turned 23 whereas Mutombo came to the league in his prime at 25.
I heard Gobert is working on his offensive game with Dirk Nowitski's shooting coach, and if he can develop one or two go to moves he can be a perennial All Star. Imagine if he develops the sky hook? Unstoppable.
Right now, he's so impressive defensively that he can already make a career simply on that.
It's frustrating to have missed him for one spot in the draft but you can't blame PATFO for not getting every single steal in the draft either... The worst is, you know they know, and they're frustrated too.

Well, these are friendly preparation games. Some teams are trying more than others. It's kinda like the NBA preseason when Spurs lost against Alba Berlin.
Regarding Parker, he is looking good/healthy but he hasn't played really well so far except that last game against Ukraine. FNT coach is limiting his minutes and Parker isn't trying too much right now. The goal is to be ready for the Eurobasket that start on September 5th. What Parker will do at the Eurobasket will give a strong hint of what to expect from him for the season.

Yep. He's Montenegrin, but play for Spain. He is in Spain for years (in Real Madrid in 2005) so Spaniards saw that as an opportunity to naturalize him.
There were stories and debates about him and his playing for Montenegro, but, this guy is an idiot and he don't know what he want of himself. When Spanish NT has written-off him from (couple of times) he started with stories about playing for Montenegro. When Spain call him again, he run to them. So, as i say, he is not most normal guy.

That three point shooting is a great sign. Makes me happy to see that. He needs a reliable three now in older age.
It's good indeed but don't forget it's the FIBA 3pt line.

Serbia destroyed Israel (http://www.eurohoops.net/2015/08/eurobasket/117891)
Once again Serbia was impressive during the preparation period winning 85-70 (http://live.baskethotel.com/ibba/?&lang=1) Israel in Tel Aviv. Nedovic was the leading scorer with 16 points being perfect until few minutes before the end.
Nemanja Nedovic scored 16 points with 2/2 2ps and 4/5 3ps missing his last 3p shot. Next to him Simonovic added 13 points, Raduljica 11 more (4/4 2ps) and also Erceg scored double digits (10p). Bogdan Bogdanovic was out and Djordjevic used 13 players.
Dawson was the leading scorer for the hosts (20p) and apart from him only Eliyahu distinguished (12p, 5 rebs, 5 assists). D’or Fischer was out of the roster for Israel. Yaniv Green came back to the action after eight months and this was his 180th game with the Israeli NT being second in participations.
It's good indeed but don't forget it's the FIBA 3pt line.
How much closer is it? I wasn't aware it was closer.
