Royals are AL champs until proven otherwise :toast. They beat the Jays in 6 games.
Have the Cards in the NL since only the Giants can beat them in the playoffs. They beat the Dodgers.
Royals beat the Cards again just like in 1985 thanks to another blown call and Cards meltdown.

Royals finished the season with 5 straight wins to capture homefield. They were resting guys throughout the month since they had a 13 game lead. They stopped coasting and took care of business when it counted. They're the AL champs until proven otherwise.

I've got:
Astros over Yankees, then Royals over Astros in 5
Rangers over BJs in 4
Cubs over Pirates, then Cards over Cubs in 4
Dodgers over Mets in 4
Gonna wait for ALCS/NLCS predictions until I see how each team looks.

Not really sure what the fuck the Jays were thinking in the past week, but then again Gibbons is a moron. Gave away the best record in the AL, fielded their second team on two occasions, didn't pitch Price at all...and started a pitcher on one day rest? Baffling. Won't be surprised if this bites them in the ass.

I think he was saving Price for Game 1 of the ALDS. But I'm surprised the Jays really let homefield get away after they overtook the Royals this past week. But I'll think they'll be fine in the ALDS. The Royals needed homefield more than the Jays.

Yeah, but IMO Price doesn't need 11 days of rest. And yes benching your starters for two consecutive games against the Orioles was asinine. The Jays were 53-28 at home and 40-41 on the road....so they're not much better (if not worse) than the Royals.
Pelicans78
10-05-2015, 10:38 AM
Shoot I didn't realize Price is getting 11 days of rest. Hopefully he's not rusty. The Rangers have a good offense.
I remember the Royals benching their starters for one game when they clinched the division. I think the doubleheader hurt the Jays in that sense when they clinched.

I guess it's one of those things that happens, but it's unfortunate that 2 of the 3 best records in baseball (STL/PIT/CUBS) will be eliminated by the time the NLCS starts.

Don't understand how people don't like playoff baseball. Where every single pitch matters and one bad pitch can do you in. The most unpredictable sport.

Game 2 might decide this series. I think the Royals will win Game 1 with Ventura starting and the Astros will win Game 3 with Keuchel. Key will be Game 2. Cueto has been up and down for the Royals. Hopefully he steps up in Game 2 and pitched the way the Royals expected him to when they traded for him.

congrats to the Astros on their first playoff win since 2005. The Astros hit 230 home runs this year , 2nd only to the Blue Jays. it will be a hard road to get thru K.C. but the young guys on this team wont quit. Congrats to Reed and Nolan Ryan to help bring in the best talent to what was a sad sack team. First 2 games in K.C...................

Gotta win game 1.
Game 2 is the real key for both teams. Ventura has been lights out lately, especially at home. Plus his stuff is clearly the best on the team and he was great in the post-season last year. Royals are expected to win that one. Astros are expected to win Game 3 with Keuchel at home. Game 2 is the difference maker. Cueto has been inconsistent since the Royals traded for him. If the Astros win that game, Royals will most likely use Ventura on 3 days rest for Game 4 assuming Astros win Game 3. If the Royals win Game 2 and end up being ahead 2-1 after Game 3, they will save Ventura for Game 5 at home on regular rest.

-Great game from Chirinos! That homerun was obviously huge but he called a great game as well.
-Diekman comes in and MOWS THEM DOWN 1-2-3 in the 7th and 8th. Huge.
-Dyson comes in the 9th instead of Tolleson and does a great job keeping everything low except one pitch witch was middle in. Not surprised Tolleson got the shaft considering the blown save recently.
-Hopefully Beltre is ok, he is the heart and soul of this team. Alberto did a terrific job on defense in a tight spot.
-Optimistic about game 2 with Hamels on the mound. He knows how to pitch to the Jays with his time in Philly

It's more about the playoffs being unpredictable and how baseball teams get hot and cold at certain times. This Royals team is better overall than last year's team, but they had a magical ride thru the postseason last year. The Blue Jays were the hottest team in baseball in the 2nd half but they slowed down the last week or so. Also the Royals had a huge lead all season in the beginning of September and started to rest guys this month and it cost them momentum which is why they had a month. Still one win today and the Royals are back in the series.

Blue Jays are the very definition of a regular season team, similar to the Yankees of a few years ago (2010 iirc). Heavily reliant on the long ball, overrated starting pitching, terrible bullpen, and below-average fielding.

Perez has been pretty great this year, especially at home. Plus they're up 2-0 with the majority of their offense sputtering. Toronto's offense is due to get going too, but it won't be due to Perez/Holland/Lewis sucking.

Banister is making a huge mistake going with Perez and Holland for 3 and 4 imo. Can't go with 2 lefties in a row vs the Jays. Lewis should be going.
Martin Perez vs RHH: .777 OPS
Derek Holland vs RHH: .858 OPS
Colby Lewis vs RHH: .717 OPS

Banister has made the right decisions most of the season, so I trust him now as well. Perez has been great as of late, so we'll see how he does; considering Globe Life Park is as hitter-friendly as it is, the Rangers' bats are gonna have to wake up if they have any hope of closing out the series in the next two games.

No he can't do whatever it takes since there's a rule. Guy thrusted both legs in the air and wasn't even close to the base path. Should have been called out on that play for sure but the umpire is retarded.

Ending the Jays' playoff drought was probably enough to save his job, unfortunately. I do think Anthopoulos is secretly hoping that the Red Sox or Yankees overpay David "The Choker" Price this offseason, though. Stroman is their real ace.

Gibbons doesn't have confidence in his ace, so he kills his confidence even more by allowing him a shaky relief appearance. But hey at least he steals the W from Dickey.

And ending the drought was achieved by Gibbons doing exactly what he needed to do - getting the fuck out of the way of his own team. Then he couldn't help himself the last week of the season and loses the #1 but playing second stringers 2 straight games, benching Price for 11 days and pitching Beurhle on 1 days rest to get a meaning less streak (which he didn't get).
