Anyone buying it?

Lame story Zelda is getting all sorts of 10s. I'm curious tbh. Would love tobplay it after HZD...but hard to tell of its worth it because Nintendo is so shitty with new content and never really delivers as far narrative goes.

By the looks of it though, Zelda probably has the best gameplay of all time...

There is no reason to buy it right now unless you really want to play Zelda. Otherwise you might as well wait a few months for there to be a full library of games and maybe a bundled game when you buy the system. Not to shit on the Switch, I'd say the same thing if there was a PS5 or XBox coming out today.

I dont expect nintendo to ever have the same potential as far as library goes as Sony and Microsoft. Developers hate them.

But word is, they're changing their approach with third party developers..mso who knows

They hate them because their consoles have been badly underpowered since Wii. And before that they used horrible formats in Gamecube (the tiny discs) and N64 (the cartridges instead of CD) that kept devs from being able to make their games as big as what PS1/PS2/XBox could handle. I don't see it changing with the Switch.

This is the third Switch thread on the front page.

In any case, I'm not an eight-year-old Japanese kid so I haven't been a member of Nintendo's target audience for many years now.

Yeah. Apparently game has issues performance wise and its significant. Reviewers didnt dock point from it though because its a "fun zelda" game while admitting there is performance issues.

Video gaming joirnalism at best. :lol

Some games get murderex for even having a slight performance issue. :lol

No shit, Bloodborne got hammered by reviews for inconsistent performance and load times, but I don't think it ever regularly dropped to 20 fps the way this Zelda does.

I got the Wii U just for Smash 4, and Smash, Splatoon and Bayonetta are the only things I've played on it. I hate the controller; it's fucking bulky and useless. At least with Smash, I could use the (16-year-old) Gamecube controller, which is kind of shitty, too, if I'm being honest. But I had to play through Bayonetta with that shitty fucking Wii U controller.

The Gamecube was the last Nintendo console that wasn't based on one big gimmick. They struck gold with the Wii's gimmick, then went back to the well too soon with the Wii U and paid for it. Now they have released yet another gimmick console instead of making one with actual controllers, that can perform on the level of the PS4 and XBone.

You don't have a 360? Bayonetta came out on that too, and it runs really well (the PS3 port is awful though).

I actually like the Wii U gamepad. I find it surprisingly comfortable for such a bulky controller. Hardly anyone ever used the second screen in an interesting way, including Nintendo, but the Off-TV Play feature is awesome. And it's executed a lot better than Sony's Remote Play on the Vita, which suffers from unplayable levels of lag and frame drops.

As for the Switch, Nintendo has lost their mind. This is another classic example of the old farts who run Nintendo only caring about Japan and failing to do their homework on the rest of the world. The fact that Nintendo is only releasing a handheld this generation makes sense once you consider that the Japanese are getting rid of their TVs entirely and have a significant handheld gaming culture. But then once you realize that the portable console market is shrinking everywhere else in the world, it's still idiotic on Nintendo's part.

The biggest disappointment is how awful the build quality is. Nintendo used to pride itself on making durable products. That's where the "Nintendium" meme came from. Now, the Switch gets scratched up if you breathe on it funny, the left JoyCon doesn't work right, some Switches aren't even reading cartridges, there's been issues with dead pixels on the screen, etc. I don't think I'll buy one until a sturdier redesigned model comes out.

Zelda is the most overrated series in gaming history imo...Nintendo needs to quit rehashing old ass bullshit and come out with something fresh. I imagine the only people who buy switches are 30 year old hipsters trying to relive nostalgia of their youth and little kids. Don't see who else would play this shit console. Definitely not with the cartridge connector on the NES that always failed within a year or two causing that constant reset loop every time you inserted a new cartridge and powered on. At least fixing that doesn't require any soldering though.

Yeah I hated Twilight Princess (most boring game ever), which the reviewers all busted in their pants over. There are three Zelda games I really enjoyed: A Link to the Past on SNES (by far the best in the series), Ocarina of Time on N64 (excellent but a little overrated), and Zelda 1 on NES. I think Breath of the Wild looks so shitty graphically. Graphics aren't everything to me, as I still love playing games dating back to even the 2600 days, but that art style looks like ass to me. Like it was only done that way to try to overcome the hardware limitations of the Switch and the Wii-U. And the Switch can't even render those shitty graphics at 1600x900 at 30 fps. That's embarrassing considering 1080p is 44% more pixels than 900p and we're nearing the end of the 1080p era for consoles. I imagine within a year or two PS4 Pro will be the only PS4 you can buy and same for Scorpio.

The NES was a bit finicky, but the SNES, N64 and especially the Gamecube were durable as fuck. The show X-Play did a durability test with the Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox once. The Gamecube stil worked perfectly even after they dropped a ten-pound weight on it, hit it with a sledgehammer and dropped it from a two-story building. It only took minor cosmetic damage.

Their handheld consoles were also super durable. Case in point: the OG Game Boy that survived a barracks bombing during the Gulf War and still works:

http://geekologie.com/2008/03/gameboy-survives-bombing-still.php

Meanwhile, the Switch is brand new and is a rickety piece of shit straight out of the box. It's so obvious they rushed this thing to shelves for Zelda.

Nintendo Switch Owners Complain About Dead Pixels, Nintendo Says They're 'Normal'

Nintendo says the dead or stuck pixels Switch owners are complaining about are "normal (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/mar/06/nintendo-switch-dead-pixels-console)" and not defects. "New Switch players have taken to online discussion boards, including a 2,000-comment strong Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5xlxmj/nintendo_small_numbers_of_stuck_or_dead_pixels/), to complain of screen issues distracting play, unbecoming of a $300 handheld gaming machine," reports The Guardian. From the report: In a support document entitled "There are black or bright dots on the Nintendo Switch screen that do not go away, or there are dark or light patches on the screen," Nintendo said: "Small numbers of stuck or dead pixels are a characteristic of LCD screens. These are normal and should not be considered a defect." Customers wishing to swap their Switch consoles with defective screens will get no support from Nintendo. A similar issue happened with the Nintendo DS at launch in the U.S., but the Japanese gaming company eventually relented after complaints from buyers, begrudgingly offering replacements under warranty. Nintendo also warned users that using the Switch near an aquarium or within a meter of another wireless device, including laptops, wireless headsets, wireless printers, microwaves, cordless phones or even USB-3.0 compatible devices "such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc," might cause the Joy-Con controllers to disconnect from the Switch.

Damn I hope this fails and fails hard. I want the awesome Nintendo consoles that were at the cutting edge of gaming like the N64 and before, not this gimmicky crap they have been doing every release since and including the Wii. Wii is probably the second lamest console I have ever owned (PSP was the worst) and I'm not buying Nintendo shit again until they make something at least competitive with the competition. It's not like the current gen of consoles from Sony and Microsoft is anything hard to match, considering they're both using extreme low end cpus with the PS4/PS4 Slim/XBox One/XBox One S using very low end gpus while the PS4 Pro uses a lower midrange gpu.

Bomberman was fun 30 years ago on the NES but that shit is old and games have moved on. What can you do with that kind of game now? Nintendo might as well have gone back 35 years and brought back Mario Bros (the crappy arcade game that took place on one screen).

I mean, the whole point is that it's a highly portable console system. I think the graphics/capabilities are more than enough to make some incredible games for it.

If there was a tablet that could reliably run steam games, I'd be all over it, but there isn't. Even a surface pro is kinda shitty when it comes to discrete graphics and those things are $.

Yep. I've only played a few handheld game that were originally for a console that worked. God of War was great for the PSP. That being said, it was nowhere close to as enjoyable as on a TV. For the most part, handheld games need to be able to be played in very short spurts (bend over I'll show you a short spurt).
But puzzle games and short stage games are great in a portable. And 8 bit looking stuff is fine. I loved the fuck out of Hotline Miami I and II on the Vita.

So the PSP God of War games are good? I just picked up Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta for my PS3 last week since the Playstation Store had a package deal with both of them for $2.49 total. At the price of a hamburger I figured just pick them up and if I don't like who gives a shit, it was only $2.49. I used to have a PSP and I got it because it looked like it would be so cool to play GTA while on the bus to work but I thought it translated so badly. I have since played the Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories on emulator and they're pretty good, but GTA on a small screen is terrible.

Yeah....they are actually good on the PSP. That being said, there are some scenes wher he gets pretty small as the scene zooms out and tries to bring in a big area. But by far, one of the best translations for the PSP or Vita. Yeah...I did the same with GTA. Just didn't work. 2.49. I'd throw that away in seconds in an arcade. Can't go wrong there.

At some point I realized that I needed to bring down my expectations on the PSP. Started focusing on puzzle based games and 2D stuff. Ended up getting the Vita when it came out. Enough decent games to me,e it worth it.

Three things are stopping me from pulling the trigger: the %50 markup that the Switch is going for currently, the issues that have been reported with the consoles, and the fact that I am currently alternating between playing FFXV, Dark Souls 3, Nioh and Persona V, so another game on my plate is not a good idea.

I probably should just get BotW on the Wii U, since mine is collecting dust, but I don't want to. The console has no other game worth getting currently, so I might just wait for a while. Funny thing is, I've probably played fewer than 10 minutes total of Zelda games in my entire life, and I'm seriously considering getting a new console just to play one. :lol

But here's my theory. Young adults end up getting married and having a kid(s). Buying a Nintendo Wii or Switch (or whatever) is an easy way to justify buying a video game system.
"Honey, it's for the kids". And most dads don't play so many video games that there will be enough good games on any of the Nintendo platforms.

And keeping Mario and Zelda around means that when this next generation of kids grows up, they'll buy their kids some kind of Nintendo product.

And keeping Mario and Zelda around means that when this next generation of kids grows up, they'll buy their kids some kind of Nintendo product.

i can totally see that being reality. makes sense to me.

now i just want to play waverace64!

Skyward Sword HD remake... get in here jeebus (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=22786)
Y'know, I got maybe.....45 mins into that game before I turned it off for the night.....and haven't turned it back on since. Which was around 6 or 7 years ago, whenever the fucking thing came out. I couldn't do the shit wii controls dude. Then I hear it's not as open world as it was made to seem and the dungeons were repetitive....

Probably won't buy it unless it's HEAVILY discounted. Like 20 bucks. But I'd buy the shit out of the other zelda remakes if they get released on the switch. And I'd give my paycheck away for an ocarina/majora's mask HD remake. Not just on the damn 3ds.

The 3D can actually be really good in the New 3DS XL with the face tracking so that it doesn't go out of focus. Of the games I have played I'd rank the 3D from best to worst as:

1. Mario Kart 7 - Essential. The game still looks good in 2D but is night and day better in 3D
2. Zelda A Link Between Worlds - Essential - The game looks amazing in 3D but kind of crappy in 2D
3. Mario Gold - Pretty good - The 3D effect looks great looking down the fairway
4. New Super Mario Bros 2 - OK - There are a couple of things the 3D looks great in but there's not much difference one way or the other
5. Super Mario 3D Land - Nothing special - It's sometimes cool for height but I have found the 3D very underwhelming in this game
6. Bravely Default - Bad - I turn off the 3D. It doesn't work well at all with some of the dark environments unless you're playing it inside with the brightness cranked up.
7. Shin Megami Tensei IV - Bad - Same as with Bravely Default

If you don't want 3D there is a 2DS tablet and then the New 2DS XL which is a New 3DS XL without the 3D and with weaker speakers. There are a few games like Xenoblade Chronicles that require one of the "New" models (eg New 3DS, New 3DS XL, or New 2DS XL) because of the stronger cpu and more ram in them. Same for the SNES Virtual Console games, which won't run on anything but "New" models. Honestly though, the 3D is worth spending the extra $25 on just for Mario Kart 7 and A Link Between Worlds. It's pretty impressive in both games.

Sounds good dude. 25 extra bucks isn't anything in the long run. How much are the virtual console game on average and is the library decent? I loved my old SNES and am kinda bitter my brother has hogged it over these past few years. the SNES classic is still a bitch to get ahold of and I've been jonesing to play some old games.

They're $8. Super Mario World is hard to play on a New 3DS XL but otherwise the VC games are really solid. I highly recommend the SNES Classic. I wasn't even considering buying one since I got a Raspberry Pi for old school gaming, but I ended up getting an SNES Classic from my brother for Christmas and I have to admit it is way better than the Raspberry Pi for SNES and NES gaming (you can dual boot the SNES Classic and NES Classic on the system since the hardware is the same). You can readily find the SNES Classic for $100 or so on craigslist and I have seen them at Gamestop too. I was looking because I was briefly thinking of selling mine until I saw how perfectly it plays Super Mario World.

The SNES Classic's emulator is the only one I have ever found acceptable for Super Mario World. That game is so sensitive to input lag, and playing it on the SNES Classic was the first time I have ever been able to make the running jumps I got used to doing on a real SNES. The SNES Classic controller feels just like the real thing. I can never go back to my Raspberry Pi for SNES and NES games after using the Classic. It's still solid for Genesis, MAME, Neo Geo, and so on, though I haven't tried the Sonic games on it yet so maybe those would suck too like Super Mario World does.

My nigga. Yeah I've seen them on amazon and the sort for around $100 so I might pull the trigger on one of those soon. I know they're gonna make the NES classic again but we all know that shit is gonna sell out super fast again. I'll look around this weekend and if I don't see a SNES, I'll just pay the extra $20 and get it online. I've also been contemplating just getting an actual SNES on ebay or wherever, but the nostalgia for old school games is still incredibly high. Might wait a bit for it to die down, as fads always do.

If I was going the cartridge route I'd have to seriously look at the Analogue Super-Nt. You get a hardware SNES and Super Famicom with HDMI support and no worries about a yellowed console chipping apart.

https://www.analogue.co/pages/super-nt/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2eW-Enj2cA

They also made a hardware NES/Famicom with HDMI a few years ago, but that was $500 and a lot of the best Japanese games of the era came on floppies for the Famicom Disk System; eg Japanese Super Mario 2, Doki Doki Panic (Japanese game that was reskinned into American Super Mario 2), Zelda (better sound than US Zelda), Metroid (better sound than US Metroid), etc.

I wouldn't buy an NES Classic unless there is a new revision with longer controller cables. The cables are a little short in the SNES Classic but they're really short in the NES Classic.

If you buy an SNES Classic check the youtube channel ETA Prime for how to add more SNES and Super Famicom roms and how to dual boot the NES Classic games on it. The only downside of doing this is one of the cool menu features that demos games while inactive only works on the original 23 or so games and sometimes when powering down you'll have to turn the system power back to on then off to shut down. These are the two mods I did to my SNES Classic, and playing some of these missed games like Turtles in Time, Final Fantasy IV, and some Japanese Super Famicom games on the official Nintendo emulator is great.

I haven't bothered with trying to put Famicom Disk System games on though since I'm doubtful the official Nintendo emulators that come with these systems would play them.

Fuck yeah this sounds like the way to go. I don't wanna have to rebuy all those cartridges I used to have at inflated prices. I'll have to remember to mod my shit when I get it. But for now, I think I might get the 3ds first so I can have some shit to play during slow times at work. Phones just die too quickly playing games on there and I know nintendo handhelds are pretty good with battery life

For SNES and NES games the SNES Classic is far better, at least comparing the SNES Classic to the Pi 3 with an XBox 360 controller. Maybe one of those iBuffalo wired pads would bring the input latency on par with the SNES Classic's, but SNES Classic with those wired SNES controllers is excellent for NES and SNES games. The wireless 360 pad just kicks the shit out of the PS3 DualShock3 though, wired or wireless on the DS3.

But for the fact you can emulate countless more consoles IMO the pi is way better choice. Also pretty sure you can conect nintendo type controllers to the pi

Im pi biased thou. I just setup 2 pis w/8TB drives each as NAS and mirroring each other

An 8TB NAS that costs less than $10 a year on power :wow

There is definite lag with a 360 controller. In Level 1-2 of Super Mario Bros you know the part where you go down the pipe into the area with coins right after the 1-up mushroom? If I run full speed on my Pi + 360 controller setup and let go right before he hits the pipe he still goes into it. On the SNES Classic Mario won't go into that pipe if you're not still holding right when he gets to it, which is exactly how I remember it behaving on the real NES. That's a 100% reproducible spot showing either the default NES emulator is worse than the official NES Classic emulator or the controller has more lag. Super Mario Bros is still very playable on the Pi with a 360 controller as long as you set it up to use the left thumbstick instead of the horrible D-pad, but if you get used to playing it on the NES/SNES Classic and go back you realize how much looser the control is on the Pi + 360 controller setup.

This is the pipe I mean:

I have repurposed my Pi from being mostly an NES/SNES emulator to being mostly a PS1 emulator. Most of the PS1 games I'm interested in don't require the kind of pinpoint accuracy SNES/NES games often do, so RetroPie with a 360 controller is excellent there. Though it does require a hell of a lot of tweaking since some PS1 games require the OG PS1 digital gamepad while others support the DualShock. And then some games supporting the DualShock still use the D-pad as the main control, which sucks on a 360 controller until you go into the config and force the left thumbstick to emulate the D-pad.

Got Zelda, Mario Odyssey, and Mario Kart.

I've never played a Zelda game in my life despite having an NES, Super, 64, and Wii. So wasn't sure if I'd even like it but it's excellent.
Mario Odyssey is as well.

Well this Zelda is very different from any of the others. I think it's wildly overrated since the combat sucks and there are I think five short dungeons. But the aimless exploration on it is fun. Library is still really weak though, especially if you don't count Wii U remasters like Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, and Mario Kart 8 and don't give a shit about Super Mario Odyssey (which is amazing IMO). Though if you want to play indie crap from the depths of Steam for double the price the Switch is good for that too.

That sounds tempting, but the original Persona 5 is so goddamn long to begin with. Whatever, I'd probably get it regardless, since I bought a PSVita just to play P4 Golden (I have no other games on that console).

Muramasa is really good on Vita too. LOL I bought a Playstation TV just for P4G and Muramasa. Even with it jailbroken those are still the only two games I ever play on it. Supposedly Hifumi was supposed to become a party member in P5 but Atlus scrapped the idea because it was making the game too long. If they add her and another dungeon I'll buy it for sure if it comes to PS4, though hopefully as a DLC rather than another $60 game. And I imagine the time in the game would get extended by a lot just like in Persona 4 Golden vs PS2 Persona 4.

The good thing is that most of the really tough parts are to get to additional treasures and can be skipped. It only comes with 29.8 GB of storage, with 5 GB of that used for the OS. He'll need a microSD card if he wants to buy digital games, some AAA cartridge games such as LA Noire or NBA 2k19 that have big installs, or if he wants to put CFW on and pirate games.

Nintendo really needs to have a big 2019 with the Switch considering how strong Sony's 2020 lineup looks with The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, and Death Stranding plus the PS5. So probably Metroid Prime 4, a new Pokemon RPG, and a killer 2D Zelda to sell systems. I doubt Bayonetta 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses, or Shin Megami Tensei V would be enough to ensure big hardware sales next year.

Damn I highly recommend the Sega Genesis Classics collection. Gunstar Heroes on a handheld with a screen this nice is fucking epic. So is Sonic 1. Pretty solid collection with Sonic 1 & 2, Phantasy Star IV, Golden Axe, Comix Zone, Shinobi III and Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage 1-3, and I forgot what else. Wish it had Castle of Illusion though.

Was kind of thinking about getting this just to have on the handheld. Seems like a lot of entertainment for the money.

Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped a Skyward Sword HD remake. I think that's the only Zelda game I played for an hour, stopped, then never played again. I just didn't care for the motion controls. In any case, they need to hurry up and release everything they had on the Wii U. Nobody bought that fuckin system yet it had all the classic games to buy.

It has been rumored for a while, but then it was rumored heavily that there would be a Nintendo Direct today too and no dice there. It would still have motion controls I would guess. Though Switch's motion controls are a lot better than Wii's. Also they're releasing New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe tomorrow. I thought the game looked kind of crap from the reviews I had seen on Wii U but it's pretty cool so far on Switch.

There are only four more Wii U games I'd care about seeing on Switch: namely, Super Mario 3D World, the remaster of Zelda The Wind Waker (though I still enjoy playing the Gamecube original on my BC Wii), Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Thankfully most of the rest of the top end of the Wii U library is on Switch now.

Did you ever get an NES/SNES Classic? The SNES is hard to find now but I still see the NES Classics available. What's really cool is NES Classic comes with the Famicom Disk System BIOS so you can add FDS games to it too, such as Zelda 1 with much better sound, Metroid with better sound, Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic (the Japanese game Nintendo romhacked into Super Mario Bros 2 for the US market), the original hard as fuck Japanese Super Mario Bros 2, and the somewhat different Japanese Zelda II.

I got both. I think I paid like an extra 5 bucks for the SNES and got the NES for its retail price; both on amazon. I'm gonna get me a little 32" tv, put it up in my room, and those two will be my "eh, fuck it" systems to play. I've always wondered about that SMB2 game, the original version. I've seen gameplay about it and it looks interesting; I never knew the SMB2 I had growing up wasn't originally a mario game. Granted, it stood out like fuck due to it just being absolutely bizarre compared to every other mario game I had

The story behind the two SMB 2 games is really interesting. God the Japanese original SMB 2 is hard as fuck, at times it can be almost as bad as some of the Kaizo Mario romhacks. Check this shit for the story of the two games.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EUYSN5aFcE

You can use a program called hakchi on your NES Classic to add Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic, though it can be a pain in the ass to find the right rom. It took my fifth attempt before I could get a rom that worked on the NES Classic emulator. Plus I got rid of some of the crap games like Ice Climber and Punch Out With Mr Dream so I could put the entire Mega Man NES series as well as Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Damn the controllers are absolute spot on for both.

Not sure if anyone here played No More Heroes (from Suda51) on the Wii but it was fantastic. I missed the follow up but they are about to release Travis Strikes Again on the Switch. It's part of the same story but clearly not meant to be taken as the third in the series.

Game play is completely different.

But I think I'm going to give it a go based on how good the first one is.

I think it was made around 2013 and you could order cartridges of it from the Atari Age store to run on actual Atari 2600 until Nintendo found out about it. There is some really cool homebrew written for the 2600. Here is another cool game called Halo 2600 written by a former VP of Microsoft's game publishing division.

Most of the NES Classic library is already on Switch Online for $20 a year. But you can mod an SNES Classic to dual boot into the NES Classic OS using hakchi2. Hell you could install the Famicom Classic OS onto the SNES Classic also (I have on mine before but it takes too much space IMO having three OS on the system). I have about 45 SNES games and maybe 55 NES/Famicom games on my shit. If I put more it would fuck up space needed for save states and I'd rather have the save states than my 100th to 130th favorite games on the two systems.

Switch with the joycons isn't nearly as good as NES Classic with the NES Classic controller for NES games. Neither is Switch with the Pro Controller. Also you can use an NES Classic controller on the SNES Classic, as SNES Classic and NES Classic are the exact same hardware but in a different shell.

You're asking the legality of pirating games? Come on rob, I never ask about the legality of you being on our side of the river. If you like Nintendo's games then Switch is awesome. If you like a handheld with a nice bright screen then it's great too. Though it is at the same time bulky and yet fragile feeling. It's large but skinny as fuck. If you take it on the go better get one of those $20 cases you see at Target or Gamestop.

Switch is a fucking expensive console IMO. You pay $300 but you need to drop at least another $25 or so for a minimum 128GB microSD card. You only get about 26GB free storage out the box and if you want to play 3rd party games like LA Noire or NBA 2k19 then half the game will be on the cartridge and the other half will be a download. Better spend another $10 on a screen protector, because the dock will also scuff your screen in the corners (at least it did mine before putting a screen protector on). And then if you want a good reasonably sized controller to use it in docked more you're talking $70 for the Pro Controller. So honestly Switch is a $405 system to me. Or $425 with the carrying case. Oh and plus tax of course.

Plus Switch games are much harder to find on sale than PS4 games. PS4 you shop around and you can get great deals like Horizon Zero Dawn with all the DLC for $15, God of War for $25, Persona 5 for $25, etc (not even counting Black Friday deals). On Switch man you might find Mario Kart 8 for $45 or Super Mario Odyssey for $50, but even the Black Friday best prices for Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were $35 each. Switch has some really good games though nowhere near as many nor as high quality as PS4, and they're significantly more expensive. The price makes it a little tough to recommend if you don't put CFW on and pirate. You'll need to do a lot of research to do it properly though, there are a lot of details and you have to pick up a system from before Nintendo patched the hardware flaw you use to exploit the system and install custom firmware. If you're interested in a hacked Switch though last week I was at the Best Buy in the Forum and four of the six Switches they had out had serials indicating they were hackable (all four with gray joycons, the two neon joycon Switches were unhackable).

Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are definitely the class of the system. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 are fun for a few minutes at a time and Bayonetta 1 & 2 have some pretty cool action, but nothing comparable to SMO and BOTW. New Super Mario U Deluxe is kind of disappointing; Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is a much better 2D platformer. Pretty bad news for Nintendo. They really need to knock it out of the park in 2019 because everyone is going to be waiting for and then buying the PS5 and the next XBox in 2020. But Fire Emblem Three Houses, Yoshi's Crafted World, and Pokemon aren't going to be enough IMO. They might be stuck having to do a price cut to the system if Pokemon isn't a 9.5/10 level game.

I don't keep up with the hardware sales but I'm sure you're right. Along with BOTW and Odyssey, Prime was the other game that helped me justify buying the system. And I figured there would be enough good indie games to fill in. Which so far, I haven't found anything I really love. Pokemon doesn't really do anything for me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLIv_UXI_So

What was the studio previously doing this? Was it Bandai Namco? They fucked up

That's the rumor. I wonder if they fucked it up or if Nintendo just has extremely high standards for this series. Either way they should have had Retro Studios develop it from the beginning. Supposedly Retro Studios made a demo for Prime 4 that Nintendo was impressed by.

Started back on Odyssey. It really is fantastic.

I also bought a game called, "Velocity 2". Fastplay game that alternates between side scroll platform and top down space shooter. It's a lot of fun. Controls are excellent which makes the game. I'm through level 26 which is maybe halfway. Most of the levels take about 3-5 minutes. But I'll probably go back and replay them when I'm done to shorten the times. Lots of checkpoints so when you die, you usually start back just before that spot.

Very enjoyable.

Started fucking around with my Switch again and RetroArch is a pain in the ass. Constant crashing. I don't even want to bother with trying N64 on this with how unstable the program is. I'll stick with playing N64 games off WiiWare using my Gamecube controller. Probably wait until N64 is supported in the official builds instead of dicking around with the nightlys.

I gotta do some tweaking of the retroarch.cfg file to see if I can get N64 working better on this. Gotta say I'm loving playing old school arcade games like Shinobi, Ninja Baseball Batman, Ninja Turtles, Simpsons, and Rastan at full speed on a handheld through Final Burn Alpha on Retroarch. I'm having no luck getting Golden Axe to play though; shit crashes every time, and crashes are annoying on CFW since you have to go push hekate through the USB-C again to get into CFW.

Nintendo Direct tomorrow at 4PM CST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k0rZguK7EU

From rumors going around I'm guessing the lineup will be something like:

1. Final Fantasy VII releases tomorrow (they have already shown the game in one of their commercials)
2. We get a release date for Fire Emblem Three Houses
3. They show a few minutes of Yoshi's Crafted World (since it releases late next month)
4. Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster gets announced with a release date
5. SNES games coming to Nintendo Online (since Nintendo is complaining about people not buying the full year plans right now)
6. Pikmin 3 port
7. Some kind of Zelda announced. Probably either a new 2D game or a remaster of Skyward Sword.
8. Super Mario Maker 2

Turns out Final Fantasy IX is the one that got released today, with VII coming on March 26th. Fire Emblem in July. Yoshi got shown off as expected. No Metroid Prime Trilogy nor Pikmin 3, and no SNES Online. The Zelda turned out to be a remake of Link's Awakening, which should be a must play. Super Mario Maker 2 comes out in June. But to me the highlight by far was seeing Astral Chain, which kind of reminds me of the legendary NieR Automata. I can't wait to see more of this game.

What are the first nine letters/digits of the serial number on your Switch? E.g. like XAJ100480. That will tell you whether or not you can hack it. Also what firmware are you on? If you have a hackable system on 6.2.0 or earlier you can setup CFW immediately. If you have a hackable system but are on the current 7.0.0 firmware you'll have to wait for the new CFW to come out. 7.0.0 has already been cracked so I doubt you'd be waiting more than two weeks for the next CFW supporting 7.0.0. If you don't have a hackable system you'll have to wait for the Mariko Switches to release to have any shot at CFW.

They had a Mario Kart 8 bundle for $300 but it was only on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. But I don't think they're ever going to do the kind of sell at below cost bundles like we have seen Sony and Microsoft do the last three years for BF. Newegg occasionally runs some bundles like Switch + Pro Controller + Smash + New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe + $50 Newegg gift card for $450, but New Super Mario U Deluxe is kind of stale now. Sometimes they'll do that one with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze which is a great game IMO. Sometimes Google Store, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc will run say 20% off coupon codes but you'd have to be following Switch deals pretty closely to get one before they sell out when those kind of promotions are going.
