Simmons is going to get at least $8 Million next season, and that's only because the Arenas rule caps his salary. But you keep changing the subject. You said Mills was worth that he's being paid now. That's completely not true. You're not going to find a proven guy better than Mills for that money. Can you luck into one or draft one? Possible. But you aren't going on the market with Mills' current salary and bringing back an upgrade.

Mills hasn't proven anything. He can shoot against back ups. If that's worth more than $8M to you, so be it. He'll get that money from some scrub team that has oodles of cash to spend because GM's can't pocket it. If the Spurs pay him that kind of money, they'll be doing themselves a great injustice. Whatever you think he can do, he can't.

Honestly, Chinook, if you're talking about building a Championship team with a salary cap, I don't think you can pay what Patty is going to get offered, and get Patty in return. I know you're responding to the comment about him not being worth more than he's getting paid. I agree that the market is going to make sure he gets a lot more. But I don't think it's a good investment. He'll be a high-priced backup, and he's not a starting PG on a championship roster.

I guess it depends on what the market really looks like this next year. But the Spurs have the reputation of being masters at the draft, and it seems like every year one or two teams sell a second rounder for cash that doesn't count against the cap. And Murray looked so much better after one season. I think this playoff run has given him a lot of confidence, and I'll be shocked if he doesn't just eat up the SL competition. The more I've watched Patty, the more I think he's always going to be one of the guys that brings you up just short of the goal.

Personally, unless he's a bargain, I'd move on from him.

I don't need someone to be better than Mills for the same amount of money. I just don't want to overpay Mills. I feel you can get someone much cheaper that is similar, maybe not quite as good, but I'd rather spend less money for someone not quite as good than to overpay Mills.

Exactly. This is my whole point. Let someone else have him.

Chinook, can you start a off season thread with the numbers? You are pretty good at understanding salary rules, cap holds etc.

I know Samuel went for us in the 2014 playoffs, I didn't know he was an actual Spurs fan, though. That's pretty cool if he is. I thought he'd be a Lakers fan? or is he a Lakers fan with the Spurs being his second favourite team?

Why at LMA? I don't think anyone expected LMA to have superstar level consistency even in the rosiest of scenarios. He was always just a fringe/barely all-star. I'm thinking maybe it was aimed at Durbeta.

Or maybe it's just a compliment without taking a shot at anybody.

Mills is a very good backup, I think for his size he defended Clay pretty decent, Livingston is just too long for him. I want Mills back and I hope we can get a Big that can play inside. I don't wanna see bigs posting up guards only to shoot fadeaways. Timmy never settled for a jumper when a small guy is guarding him. Damn, I miss Timmy's inside game.

He's always repped The Spurs.

Sigh. I can't believe how many people think Mills is a player worth much more than he's getting paid. He's just not worth what the likely market for him is going to be. I would rather not pay him at all and get someone else cheaper and try and get someone in 2018. You'll all want him off the team in a year as you'll view his contract like Gasol and Parker's if he's resigned for his supposed market price.

No Parker, no Kawhi, and no Lee...congrats, Warriors, on your fake ass win. Can't wait to see the Cavs humiliate you.
