Brandon Jennings was dropping 20/20 games before he tore his, and look at him now. Is he even in the league anymore?
Here's an article I remember reading from a couple years back that paints a pretty grim picture. http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/basketball/news/history-not-kind-for-ruptured-achilles-recovery/
I'll take this please:
Wilkins is the obvious best-case scenario, as he kept a string of seven-straight All-Star game appearances alive in his return from the injury in 1992-93. He actually averaged more points in his first season back, improved his shooting, continued to get to the free-throw line, and barely saw dip in his rate stats. He stands out as the outlier, and is basically the only player to return from a ruptured Achilles at something close to his previous form.

I am not sure if this is an argument that Simms did better because he scored more points.
Simms had more fouls, those fouls hurts us against GS
Simms also had more turnovers, while fewer assists than Kyle. And boy those turnovers did hurt us
Kyle had more blocks, rebounds, and overall played more within himself. One is better on O, and the other on D, with Rudy Gay, I think we have addressed our Offensive needs, Kyle might be a better choice against some teams.

Could not be a more perfect gif to sum up how I'm feeling.
There's no way Gay is going to effectively play SF, tbh..I'm sure they'll try it, but it'll fail..even prior to the devastating injury, nearly 40% of his minutes were at PF in today's NBA..with the injury undoubtedly taking away some of his physical gifts, he's definitely going to fit better at the 4..
So at PF we're looking at Pau/Gay/Bertans?
Would prefer Bertans as a stretch 4.

Nah, it's an argument that Kyle outplayed Simmons. Rate stats and advanced metrics have Kyle as the runaway winner. The difference in their defensive impact is huge.

Nothing on the stat sheet says he's past his prime. 30 should still be the guy's prime. Even if he diminishes some physically he's always been a good athlete. Obviously the big injury is the risk and I'm sure it's a calculated one. It also probably cut his cost in half, shit likely more than that
very much agree. no team could have never gotten this player and at 30 years old for this money unless health played a big factor

Ouch.
This doesnt mean shit. Psychological issues are more deterrants than anything after a serious injury. Rudy gay is a volume shooter and not a dunk machine. Hes here to knock down jumpers. The only Superstar i can ever remember achilles tear in prime was dominique. He came back as good as ever. Who else kobe and billups who were at the end of the road? He will be fine.

Wes Matthews was kind of respectable, this past season IIRC..his 1st season coming of the injury was absolutely horrendous, though..
Regardless, he's nowhere near what he was prior to the injury..

Game 1
Kyle - 4 points / 4 rebounds / 2 assist / 1 steal
Game 2
Kyle - 8 points / 5 rounds / 4 assist / 2 steals / 30% FG
Game 3
Kyle - 6 points / 9 rebounds / 5 assist / 1 block
Game 4
Kyle - 20 points / 7 rebounds / 2 assist / 4 steals
The Kyle played great or whatever against the GSW has been sooooo blown out of the water. He played like a serviceable NBA player... I get it though... that's a huge jump from the bum he has been over his career, but let's pump the brakes a bit.According to advanced statistics, he was the Spurs 2nd best player in the playoffs.http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAS/2017.html

This will be the most difficult test for the Rudy Gay challenge, tbh..it's a curse that has haunted every team he has played for(Sacramento didn't change, though)
2005-2006 Grizzlies: 49-33
2006-2007 Grizzlies with Rudy Gay: 22-60
2009-2010 Grizzlies with Gay: 40-42
2010-2011 Grizzlies with Gay missing the 2nd half of the season and playoffs: 46-36, famously embarrassing the 1 seed Spurs
2012-2013 Grizzlies after trading Rudy Gay: WCFS
2012-2013 Raptors with Gay: 34-48
2012-2013 Raptors with Gay: missed playoffs
2013-2014 Raptors trade Gay: 48 wins, HCA in playoffs
2012-2013 Kings without Gay: 28 wins
2014 Kings: 28 wins
2017 Spurs: 61 wins
2018 Spurs: ???

Just have Murray come off the bench.

Yes, I'm trolling a Spurs fan board because I don't watch basketball.
He was more effective in his time on the court than Simmons was. The ONLY thing that Simmons has over Kyle is Games 5 and 6 against Houston when he was a better match-up against Harden. Kyle's a better rebounder, help defender and passer than Simmons is. To say otherwise is to be misinformed.

Yes. With that wingspan, and if he regains just some of his lift he should still be able to shoot over most players pretty easily.

Great. He's still coming off of an injury that ends careers. Regardless of solely relying on athleticism, you do realize that a blown Achilles destroys shooters' ability to shoot, right?

Brah if guys with physical limitations like Neal and Roger Mason Jr. can light shit up in SA just imagine what guys with some talent and measurables can do. Post-injury Rudy will still be more athletic than those guys ever dreamed of being, tbh.

broken bones are a different animal than a torn tendon. recovering from a broken bone is incredibly routine and in fact they heal stronger than the original bone. that's simply not a comparison. the only time a broken leg becomes seriously problematic is when you have artery/nerve damage

broken bones are a different animal than a torn tendon. recovering from a broken bone is incredibly routine and in fact they heal stronger than the original bone. that's simply not a comparison. the only time a broken leg becomes seriously problematic is when you have artery/nerve damage
Really? Even when it's that severe? I'd imagine there's a shit load of screws involved. My brother broke his leg when he was young and he still runs funny to this day. Granted that was in the early 90s and Mexican healthcare. :lol

His shooting was actually his biggest asset, last season, especially as a 4 IMO..37% on 4 attempts and 1.06 PPP as a spot-up shooter..unfortunately, the Achilles tear will probably kill his J(based on history)..

No one would be happier if it pans out than me. But the excitement here over a player who has relied on his athleticism to score and who's coming off of a career-ending injury is totally misplaced. People need to adjust their expectations here.
Because no one who made it to the NBA, made it due to there lack of athleticism right!!! Come On He is not a franchise player we all know that.. Let the fans including myself be excited for once this offseason.. Shit its been so bad I have been watching the SPURS summer league games.

They were that much better is the simple answer. We jumped to a big lead against them in our last meeting of the regular season and ended up getting our doors blown off.

Since it's effectively a one year deal, it's hard to complain. I certainly have my doubts about how much he'll be able to contribute. But Pop will protect his minutes and gp...I think there's a good chance that factored into Rudys decision. Also, he won't be the focal point of a defense for the 1st time in his career. Sure, playing 9 out of 12 times vs injured teams and facing no competition in a weak league during the last 3 seasons, thats what you call best ever?

Spurs get lucky with both injuries and get great post-seasons out of Parker and Gay along with Green and LMA having contract years and Kawhi continuing his march to the MVP, and you could see something amazing happen. But that's like a one-percent chance of happening.
So you're telling me there's a chance.

Imagine going from playing next to one of the shittiest players in his generation in Cousins to going to one of the top franchises in professional sports.
Gay is kind of the SF version of LMA. Gets his numbers but not terribly efficient or a good playmaker. Hope the spurs find a way to maximize his potential on the bench the same way the grizzlies did with Carter and GS did with iguodola.

Something's got to give when you're going for a guy still in his prime who can score 30 and possibly be the sidekick that Kawhi needs.

Probably finished as a notable player, but pretty low risk at that price(along with having limited options, at this point), tbh..not a fan of this signing, overall, though..
Sucks for Kyle, tbh..
He's 30. How is that finished?
Whatever, I expected to log in and see that everyone on ST hated the signing.

Yea, low expectations too, but if it works out, very high reward.
I had much higher expectations for RJ , as I'm sure everyone did. They moved Bruce for him, had to be a big deal
Bruce at that point in time was almost unplayable due to his lack of offense and his defense wasn't at the same level to make up for it.

Spurs needed someone else who can create their own shot. Gay has proven over his career he can do that. He will take a lot of the pressure off Kawhi. Love his length and size as well.
So you're saying you love this Gay dude's length and size. Interesting...

It's been so strange watching the Spurs transition into a team with several 1 on 1 players, tbh:lol never thought I'd see Rudy Gay in a Spurs uniform..
It's pretty obvious what they are doing, they invest in "Mature" Rookies that can contribute right away for cheap, G Hill and Blair were of the very first few of the kind, Kyle Anderson (to me he played better than Simmons against the warriors), Dejounte, which is why they drafted older rookies, with NBA bodies or skills.
They also invest in 1 on 1 players, Boban, Pau, D Lee, D West, Dedmon, and now Rudy Gay, which can play for cheap but has the potential to make the difference in a playoff series, preferably against the warriors.
It makes sense and it gives them the flexibility to add another max player in the future, next summer at the earliest, and that only if you like Cousins. But the Spurs have proven time and time again that they are willing to take their time and signing Rudy Gay makes me believe that he is in pretty good condition. Like David Lee, and the others were.

Exactly. The Spurs needed a playmaker, or a penetration guard, or a true 3-point shooter, Gay isn't any of that.
Where will be Spurs ball-movement when the 3 main scorers -Kawhi, LMA, Gay- are iso-players/mid-j shooters??
Can't believe the way that Pop is building this team...It's very disappointing.
Hope the spurs find a way to maximize his potential on the bench the same way the grizzlies did with Carter and GS did with iguodola.

This cracks me up.
***NEWSFLASH***
This just in
In an unprecedented move, the Spurs announced today that they have signed washed up, broken down, should retire already Rudy Gay. Gay spent time in Memphis failing to live up to his hype, but was a name on the roster. He most recently did a stint in Sacramento where he was completely without a playoff appearance.
It's uncommon for the Spurs to target washed up, broken down players as San Antonio is the target destination for most of the top tier NBA players, so the Spurs have their pick. They chose Rudy Gay because he fits right in with the Spurs culture. After sucking so hard for so many years but having some Youtube type "great moments" in the process, Rudy has gotten over any idea that he will ever be a vital part of a championship team, or that his play will, in any way, stand out above anyone else. "He's a system guy now" according to San Antonio head coach and president of basketball operations, Gregg Popovich - "He's the type of guy you can scream at when Tony dribbles the ball too long, or when Pau doesn't rotate on defense" Pop said, "He's more over himself than almost anyone we've ever signed, short of Antonio who was a blob of jello when he came here".
The Spurs hope to compete with the notion that they cannot beat the Warriors by having some eyebrow raising moments in the regular season - leading some Spurs fans to prematurely proclaim "J.H.U.T.T." and "We STAAAAAAACKED". Worthless sports blogger and internet troll Joe (goes by TheGreatYacht) is expected to proclaim how great Rudy is, how he's going to change the face of the franchise just a month or so prior to joining Dabom and Assholisac in running the Gay meme into the ground along with Today's NBA.
Popular Lakers/Warriors fan hangout, Lakersground.net is expected to host several "how did we miss this guy" threads before midseason.
