It wasn't just the pace, though that was definitely a factor. I have never seen worse defense than how the Suns played in their first two games. They literally didn't play any help defense. They were giving wide open lanes and wide open shots all game. It looked like someone unplugged the controller on 2K from how they'd just stop defending. Caruso probably could have put up a big scoring night too if he got to chuck 27 shots.

tbh the suns have a better chance of being below average defensively than the lakers have. At least Jackson, Len and Warren could be decent defenders and Chandler still has the instincts.. On the lakers the only guy in the rotation that has any resemblance of a defensive attitude is Nance..

funny thing is this wasn't even lonzo's game. he's not a high usage guard that likes to score. he'll clean the glass, run a transition and make plays for the most part.
he's almost forced to be a scorer since the lakers have none who can create his own shot( 19 year old ingram is our designated closer ffs). not the biggest lonzo fan, since I prefer josh Jackson but you can already see his impact on the game, regardless of the competition.

I assume he ball dominates too much, looking to assist and rebound whore on defense (note: your PGs SHOULD NOT be rebounding. It's better for them to receive the ball on an outlet from a big to get into the offense as early as possible).

Yeah Lakers were much better with Ball off the floor. He can't shoot at all.
Speaking of cancer, that's what Jrue Holiday has been for the Pelicans ever since he joined the team. They had to bring in guys like Rondo and now Jameer just because Jrue can't run an offense.

There's nothing wrong with a PG rebounding, especially if he is good at it. That's why you'll see Dejounte in there. It transitions into offense immediately and gets another good rebounder in there to secure boards.

huh? say what? That so far im fine cuz its 6 games ...the guys,i mentioned i had concerns about and all the rookies have struggled to some degree ...most experts and myself said Tatum was most ready to play now and that seems to be the case ...if it were not for Simmons being lumped in with this rookie class Tatum was the roty favorite in my book.
im not in panic mode over Ball cuz my expectatiobs were realistic ...
Lopez is morebof a concern for me right now ...to win games he needs to be better.
Lonzo needs ti be more aggressive no respects his jumper ..

he was active defensively but I share the same sentiments with you and Killa K. you can't go out there playing like a 3rd string guard, afraid to make mistakes and miss shots. he's not even getting to the FT line, smh, and what irks me is we know he can score, not in abundance but he can contribute there and make the defense honest.

They're probably trying to develop his shot on the job. As we know, if a PG doesn't have a 3 point shot today, he won't hack it.
Also, players like Longo is why NBA teams desperately need to implement some kind of farm/development system (:lol D-League). There's maybe only 1 or 2 rookies per year who are truly ready for the NBA.

:lol Lonzo's on track for the worst single-season TS% in at least the last 50 years. If you're a guard who can't shoot in today's league, you're basically a dinosaur. Don't really care about how many assists and rebounds he pads when he can't shoot or score reliably. And with how broken his mechanics are, there's a good chance he'll never be able to do that. Which means he's not worth the #2 overall pick and certainly shouldn't be leading his team in touches per game and time of possession - especially by such huge margins.

Anyhow, it's doubtful Longo will ever be to able to develop an explosive dribble-drive game. He just lacks the natural athleticism. It's also doubtful he'll be able to develop a great off the dribble shooting game for the same reasons. Big, yet slower guards, like Lonzo have traditionally fared better in the post. When Magic lost a step, he went to the post. Kidd was a greater worker in the post (Kidd wasn't slow, but he used post-play to off-set his terrible shooting). Andre Miller could post. Gary Payton, a tall guard for his era, could post. Lonzo should follow that template.

He played for a big-name, elite college program that gets a lot of attention. His shooting actually looked decent against college defenses, with the shorter three-point line. He was also the basketball equivalent of all the read-option QBs who play in dumbed-down offenses in college football. UCLA ran an extremely simple halfcourt offense where all he had to do was pass the ball to whoever was coming off a pindown screen. This masked his inability to do anything more complicated than that in the halfcourt. And he had a couple flashy highlight-reel passes in transition. All of this was enough to fool Magic's dumb ass into drafting him.

I really have no clue. First time I watched him, I was unimpressed. I would guess scouts probably liked his size, length, and court vision. He also had a good 3 point shooting percentage in college, but it's obviously from a closer line and against players who will be accountants and lawyers in a couple of years. Kawhi's evolution has made me believe anything is possible. As we know, Kawhi was a very rough prospect with just average NBA athleticism per his position without a clue how to shoot, but he learned how to maximize his one advantage he had over other players: length. Lonzo has length over pretty much every PG, so it's possible he can turn that into an advantage on both ends. Unsure how he'll do it offensively other than becoming a post-up guard, which is antithetical to today's style.

Lonzo posted up on only 0.8% of his posessions in college, tbh. It's never been part of his game. He's too weak and too soft, and it's just not as common for point guards to post up anymore. Westbrook and Livingston are the only ones who come to mind that do it on a semi-regular basis.

Indeed. Post play is dead at all positions. That's why the future for Longo looks bleak. If this was 2001, Lonzo would be the hottest rookie in the NBA. An indefensible 6'6" postup (he would've developed that skill back them in lieu of chucking 3s off a broken shot) guard that would kill in that half-court/slow-it-down era. His vision would be a huge asset in threading all the packed defenses in that era. People were sky-high on Livingston before the injury for the same reasons, as I'm sure you remember. But the modern game has made his strengths into weaknesses. "Court vision" isn't as important today. Spacing is big enough that any average passer can find guys anywhere on the court.

I’m pretty consistent, trolling aside, he’s not ready yet but there’s little evidence to suggest he will not be an impact player. His offense will come along. Come on guys, the kid just turned 20. He has a target in his back with an enormous amount of pressure to revive the Lakers of all places, since day one.
Best thing that happened to him was LiAngelo fucking up. Hopefully this will shut Lavar up.
How are you feeling about your "guarantee" RoY for this bust?

And he’ll get there. His shooting woes is all mental. He’s even missing his freebies and wide open layups. Bump this next year and I’ll accept your apologies, sir.
His shooting woes are not all mental. His mechanics are terrible. They have to be completely rebuilt if he has any chance of even being a passable shooter at this level.

:lol He's an impact player... it's just that his impact is negative.

That's not a good excuse for how awful Lonzo is. Jayson Tatum is 19 and way better than him already. De'Aaron Fox is 19 and way better than him already. Lauri Markkanen is 20 and way better than him already. And that's not even getting into Ben Simmons, who's only a year older than Lonzo but is already so far ahead of him, it's not even funny.
He has a target in his back with an enormous amount of pressure to revive the Lakers of all places, since day one.
He and his dad forced their way to the Lakers on draft day just like Kobe did. This is what they wanted. If Lonzo can't handle the pressure, then he only has himself and his loudmouth father to blame.

The "target on his back" is much more about his dad not being able to shut the fuck up than it is about the pressure that comes with reviving the Lakers tbh

Keep lying to yourself. When you're pushing historic ineptitude, you should be more concerned than not. This is WAYYYYYYYY below expectations. He is shooting at just an inexcusable clip and the best thing that can be said about him is "he sucks".

Barkley was on point...........he has an awful shot. Takes him to long to get a shot off, unlike Curry who has a quick release. He dribbles, lifts and moves the ball from right to left across his face over his head and then lets it go. Very awkward. I kinda feel sorry for Lonzo. If he had a decent shot he would be a great player. I dont know with that crazy shot though.

Wow, can't believe people trying to sugarcoat this turd. I could see if he's hitting a respectable % from the line, but he's got big-man ineptitude from the line. Unacceptable. There really isn't any light at the end of the tunnel based on what he's shown thus far. He's just flat out awful.
After his stellar 3/12 and 1/7 from deep.... how low can he go?
FG%: .292
3P%: .220
FT%: .500
good point, will make sure to include FT% going forward...

No. Lavar is the reason that Lonzo was picked so high and by the Lakers, put pressure on him and made other people hate him.
MICHAEL KILLED HIS DAD, LONZO GOT KILLED BY HIS DAD!
I don't buy this crap that Lonz0 is some humble kid just bc he's not as loud as his dumbass dad. All of them played like douches on the court, jacking up shots like crazy and not caring about defense or getting teammates involved. Then theres the eyebrows, fancy cars, etc. That screams entitled, douchey teen to me, tbh.

Youngest player to record a triple double.
Plus 3 blocks and 3 steals.
And YES, it's a mental/confidence issue not his shooting mechanics.

i think it's impressive that with all those very high picks, the lakers still don't have a franchise player.. especially when there have been so many from 2013 on..

Lakers fans should be more excited that he managed 19 points on a strong percentage. Who gives a fuck about assist and rebounding stats in today's game? It's so easy to whore for now.
