BTW the market didn't go up yesterday because of Bernie/Biden news or good virus news. It went up because the fed indicated they would be proactive if covid19 started to hit the US economy hard. We could very well see negative interest rates if that happens.

There are still stocks that will do well in this period. I mentioned last week that if the virus hits hard Amazon should do well in my opinion. I own about 20,000 ADRs of a chinese company that is similar to Amazon and is big in home delivery. With the chinese economy tanking they are up almost 20% in the last month.

You can't push a rope.

Don't think that rate cuts are going to do much to spur demand that isn't there. Fed didn't push then negative last time, and will probably do a round of QE before that, IMO.

A lot will depend on how much China bounces back. A lot of business press indicates a re-thinking of supply chains. Good time to invest in Vietnam. The rest of Asia will benefit a lot.

That's gonna do well.

consumers tend to stick to online shopping after they switch to it, because of the convenience. This will see a shift in behavior in lot of places if that holds true.

Time to short brick and mortar retailers.

FWIW, I take a lot of walks when I travel for work, and often the companies I audit are close to big box stores, so I get to see a lot of different places.

Stopped into a Burlington Coat Factory in Abilene. That company is a goner, IMO, if the store I looked at was representative. Looked over their financials, and have to wonder at how they are making it work.

How deep do you want to go into it? Random and hater have knee jerk reactions when the numbers tumble. Does that mean the economy is tanking or what?

Stocks tank and explode during times on uncertainty, like elections or this pandemic. It's an ongoing speculation of who is going to suffer and who profits, a bad week means nothing but trends do.

Unless you see stocks in terms of trends for each sector, you're just acting like a day trader.

I'm far from an expert, I don't claim an economics degree but I don't panic or in hater & ramdom's case celebrate, over a dow index showing scary red numbers.

New York (CNN Business)The US economy added 273,000 jobs in February, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.

This was far more than economists had predicted. Leading the gains were new jobs in health care and social assistance, food services and government, where 7,000 people were hired for the April Census.
The unemployment rate fell back to the historic low 3.5%.

Aggregate employment rates don't give a good picture of overall financial precarity, declining fortunes and declining quality of life in the USA since the 2008 crash, that's all.

Wage growth has simply not materialized. When unemployment is low, the trend is for wages to go up, since there's allegedly more competition in the marketplace.

There's many reasons for this phenomenon right now, here's an article that summaries some:

Absolutely air boats. I feel like chunking a chain in the prop. Possibility of injuries way too high.

Traffic was considerably lower when gas was high in my experience. (Redfish Bay Area OfF Of 361)
Although they did end up ruining places for each other and cussing each other.
No need to cuss a kayaker. Just burn the shoreline in my entire path. hell go between me and the shoreline because you can and I can’t chase you down and ruin it for you.

The boaters and airboats way off in the middle of nowhere are usually very cognizant of your presence and take obvious precautions to be kind.

I think it's natural as the market has expanded to the whole world, and technology has made that possible. The US is largely noncompetitive in the vast majority of non-specialized areas. Retraining is hard, costly, and normally not covered by the market, especially for people of older age.

Demagogues are going to keep rambling against globalization because it's an easy target that resonates with the non-rich 70% or so of this country, but in practice, this is what capitalism evolved into. It's still about being efficient, streamlining costs, getting the best ROI, etc.

There's no easy solutions or silver bullets for this, tbh.

Honestly its already too late. The virus has been spreading in the community for over a month. Some of the experts on twitter have broken down the genetic forensics they use to trace the virus and in WA its been there for a long time. Since the number of cases basically doubles every 6 days, its already pretty high and I highly doubt if there's any major metro in the US without a good amount of cases. The simple math behind this thing is insane, and meanwhile people are still debating on whether or not to go to Cochella.

only mass quarantines and cancelations can slow this down

there are just a finite # of mechanical ventilators in the US

last I checked there are about 62,000 ventilators

lets not forget a good % of those is already in use by sick ppl so there could be only say 30k ventilators availanble

coronavirus patients who fall really ill need those for at least a week

The math is pretty damning.

For instance:

https://twitter.com/LizSpecht/status/1236095180459003909

If we have 400k available hospital beds nationally, and we end up with 10 million people in the country getting the disease (i'll add, these are pretty conservative estimates), then you only need a 4% hospitalization rate to fill those beds. Considering the death rate is thought to be somewhere between .5 and 3%, a 4% hospitalization rate seems really low. And considering 10 million nationally is really conservative and likely on the low side, Its not going to take much to hit the capacity of our health care system even if its operating at peak efficiency (which it won't be).

Exponential growth is a bitch. Exponential growth is what is going to happen considering we're not doing shit about it right now.

To some extent, yes.

No amount of cheap fuel though, will make a flight of a 737 with 10 passengers profitable.

We have been bailing out airlines for close to half a century by now. The industry as a whole had a negative net income if you look at net income cumulatively since inception of airlines, as recently as a few years ago.

This has all the indicators of a full blown global recession and not just a "correction". The bull market is done. It's been an amazing ride and I've enjoyed it so much but it's over.

You don't need a bull market to make money.

Poor people stay poor because they don't have access to credit and capital, you silly man. Also, because it's more expensive to be poor, in a lot of ways.

The best predictor of upward mobility in the US remains inherited wealth.

So no poor people ever make it out of poverty because they don't have access to credit and capital. So poor people stay poor because they are poor.

Genius

More expensive to be poor must mean it's harder thus more honorable an achievement.

Your bumper sticker logic is tiring.

You make blatantly obvious calls like the stocks will take a hit during a pandemic. Make a real call, like call the next big bank to go under or what's the first sector that'll make a stable rebound.

Anybody can guess a 2k loss will lead to a 1k rebound :lol

Hey look on the bright side, this was the only way Trump is losing to Biden.

On the other hand, Bernie looks a lot more electable and likeable in a scenario where millions of people are dealing with an economy in chaos and private insurance companies gouging the shit out of them on coronavirus treatment.

I saw epidemiologists saying USA will mimic Italy with a lag of 2, 3 weeks max.

The jump from 200 to 10,000 in Italy needed a 2,3 weeks.

It is pretty scary that we have a president who’s this incapable of calming the market down and he’s surrounded himself with retards who are equally incompetent. Even GWB managed to keep enough smart people in the room to stop the bleeding in 2008. After Trump’s speech you get the feeling there’s no bottom to this.

Before any Trumptards flips out at that, the market itself is clearly worried there’s no bottom to this.
