Right, and I think they will rebuild fully and be contenders in a few years. It's hard to argue with a track record like the Spurs have, but Horry is hell bent on doing it with his claim that they will never be relevant again.

What happened between Horry and spurs? Why does he hate the spurs so much?

What happened between Horry and spurs? Why does he hate the spurs so much?

He was a free agent in '08 and the Spurs decided not to resign him. Also, teams across the league called Pop ask for an assessment of Horry in the summer of '08 and Pop was honest by telling them that Horry was washed up. Horry knows of this, and it enraged him. Timvp broke this down a long time ago.

Guys help a bettor out here.
Who in the F is tanking and who is not?

While ago Orlando, OKC and Detroit were solid locks to tank 10/10.
They sure as h got off that wagon, at least for a while.

Trailblazers solid tanker after dealing what's his name. But then they pulled off a couple solid efforts a week ago.

So what the F is up? I bet against Detroit yesterday at the Heat. While it worked out is was def a sweat as it was tied as late as 4 minutes or so in the 4th.
What gives?

Craig CIA Pop you know he's gonna do what's best for him not the team. So while Chet Holgrem is a longshot, doubt he will try to improve odds.

Detroit isn’t tanking. They probably should be, but they’re not. And they haven’t been tanking all season. They were just that bad first half of the season, also missing a lot of guys due to injury. But they’ve been trying all year long, with few and far between results until just before the all star break.

Jerami Grant returned from a long absence. Cade Cunningham gradually got his bearings as a rookie, and the team began to develop a little chemistry. And Marvin Bagley has actually played well, giving them some size they’ve lacked. They’ve not only been competitive the last month plus or so, they’ve beaten some of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Boston ending their long win streak, Cleveland, Toronto, Charlotte, Atlanta. Close games, but games they deserved to win. The other night, they were playing better than the Heat, winning a close game without Cade Cunningham, and then Spoelstra put Max Strus into the game and he scored 16 points in the fourth quarter. A move that saved the Heat.

They’re not a good bet to lose. I mean, they’ll still lose their share. But they play hard. They’re playing better as a team. And if the opposing team does not play well, Pistons have shown they’ll surprise anyone. I wouldn’t bet on them to lose or assume they are tanking.

Raptors, down by 4 with 8 seconds left inbound. Pass ball around 3 times, literally running a weave as the game ending clock is winding down even tho the Lakers are barely contesting a shot.

2 starters out, 4 total regular rotation guys out. Played 3 G league players big minutes. And Ben McLemore couldn’t miss to start the game. That said, Portland isn’t exactly rolling out the 2016 Golden State Warriors roster on the floor either. So the Pistons shouldn’t have gotten down so big to begin with. But it was a game they got down big, made a late run to get it close, then lost it in the end.

Now a night later after F-ing me on a parlay:
Pistons 122

What changed?

The guys that were out played. No G-leaguers played. And they just played better, good defense, caused turnovers, and pushed tempo in transition. Held Trae Young in check.

They’re just not a good bet, either way. The players are playing hard. The coaches are coaching to win. But management sees that they’re on the verge of being out of the bottom 3 records, which significantly changes lottery chances. A couple of the guys who sat last game might have been calculated “business decisions” by the front office.

So the players who do play are playing to win. But it’s at a point in the season with the lottery in view where some of the starters and rotation players may be sitting games out, end of the bench players and two-way guys get playing time. So the front office may be making “tanking” moves. They’re just hard to predict game to game. That’s why they’re not a good bet.

The 1st 2 months of the season were great to watch as there was a good balance of offense vs defense.

But since then the bad officiating habits have been back, BS fouls being called favoring the offense.

Stern Jr must have realized he was losing ad revenue (more FT's = longer games).

I'ts a shame because that first 2 months or so were great.

They did and they didn’t. I think most Pistons fans are used to seeing this team get the short end of the whistle. Cade gets plenty of respect from opposing players but hardly ever the benefit of the doubt from the referees. But call it growing pains or whatever. If they started the season winning more games and were legit playoff contenders, maybe the officials would be more open to giving Cade some calls. But it has been a consistent theme, they don’t get a favorable whistle. That said, Pistons were en fuego in the first half from three and by a lot of different guys. They cooled off in the 2nd half. Until Cade went nuclear for like a 10 minute stretch.

It’s another game they were trying to win. Even played hack-a-Drummond. Just fell short against a team that should be playing desperately. Pistons could have won the game if Durant didn’t carry the offense. He was brilliant as expected. Idk what his boxscore line was, but Kyrie was pedestrian most of the game.

I don't know what's up with Freak and the Bucks but when they are on they beat the Suns again.
Don't even have the Suns as a lock for the West with Ja Grizzleys. Just can't count on Chrissy Paul either staying healthy or not ballhogging a game or two away.

Entertaining end to the Golden Phags - Phoenix game tonight, several lead changes in the final 2 minutes.
So much phaggotry on the court.
A key play was Donkey Green going up in the air but having no where to pass it to and travelling. I think he believed he could insert Klanus with the ball. But Klay was no where to be found so Donkey came down with it. Looked like a Jr. High play but hey these guys are human too. Kardashian-Booker had an obvious over the back foul after he shot a brick. Really dumb as the Suns had a 1 pt lead and were in sold position to get back on D.

Clitter Paul with some good shots late albeit pathetic D by Porter Jr. Chrissy also made his final 4 FTs.

I need to shower after watching them.

Aha so Donkey did indeed have a plan. A good one.
Did you also see Porter fail to guard Chrissy Paul in a critical late possession? Paul, as he likes to do puts his rump towards the defender while standing still and pounding the dribble. (This is not porn). This time he was well outside the arc and all the way over next to the sideline. Instead of playing him straight up or forcing him back to the middle, Porter completely played Paul to his (Porters) left side thus allowing Paul to simply spin and go to the right and then all the way for the layup. Why the hell Porter played it this way is beyond me. I suck at video clips or I would post.
Would make for a good discussion.

See below Jamstone post.
Also key point is the 9:22 - 9:23 point.
Chrissy slowly switches dribble hands as he slowly spins around. Porter (or any other NBA player) need more a picture frame to discontinue trying to overplay Paul to his left? It's basic basketball defense 101.

Passing wise I can see the comp for Bird with Jokic …
Bird was more fluid than him to me.
Being able to use footwork is similar but I think Bird was underrated as an athlete
Especially for a white guy in the 80s
He wasn’t fast or quick but his ability to read the game made him seem faster much faster than Jokic.
Jokic kills you more surgically and methodically but what a beast in the block mid or high post.
His bag of moves and counters are superior to Bird’s … bird didn’t use as many moves but you could not stop his best two or three

There were awful refs back in the day too, but it seems all the officials these days suck.

officiating in the NBA is just beyond pathetic. and i dont know if its necessarily that the refs themselves are incapable of making proper calls, as opposed to being given entirely too much leeway on their interpretation of rule enforcement. the inconsistency is whats most maddening imo. a team that is more physical shouldn't be given any more slack than a team that generally avoids physicality. luka getting techs every time he drops an f-bomb or less, while draymond clearly drops 5 or 6 during a screaming tirade and gets no tech is beyond me.

the other aspect is the rules needs to be readjusted. some of the issues really arent the refs fault, the rules are just written in a way that allows players to find loopholes too easily (swingthrough and unnatural motion fouls) or are stupidly inconsistent (continuation - it makes no sense that you can get fouled on what clearly was not intended to be a shot, but a player can then take an extra free two steps and shoot it and either it turns into FTs or an and-1; but then its not allowed when a player does the same things at the 3pt line? its completely stupid and needs to be adjusted imo). also i definitely agree with JVG that intentional fouls to stop fast breaks need to be more heavily penalized (1 FT and the ball)

Chris Fall

It wasn't great defense, but it was also a defensive scramble that kind of got out of whack when BOTH Brown and I think it was Claxton went to challenge Smart on the shot fake. Claxton left Horford and Dragic had to rotate. That left Durant to cover for Dragic on Jaylen Brown at the top of the key. Kyrie was playing safety as his guy was in the far corner.

If Durant slides to cover Tatum on the cut, Brown has a wide open jumper top of the key. If Kyrie does a better job denying the pass to Tatum, Derrick White has an open corner three. That probably would have been the better option. But I don't even think Kyrie knew Tatum cut.

Not great defense. But I credit Smart on the pass and Tatum on the cut more than I blame the Nets defense. 2 guys going after Smart caused the numbers advantage. It was basically 5-on-3 because Brown and Claxton were out of the play once they both jumped at the shot fake.

Fun game. Great finish.

Jokic literally has a 20 win team supporting cast without Murray and MPJ. They have no chance against the top teams and GS is a bad matchup as it is with all the action they run on the perimeter. Gordon is shrinking big time, not that he’s that good anyway. Imagine having Aaron Gordon and Will Barton as your second and third best players in a playoff series.

Having said that Warriors with Draymond and Steph healthy are good. Probably the biggest challenge to Suns in the West especially with Memphis being a fake 2 seed. Dallas with a healthy Doncic would have been a dark horse with their defense + shooting + Luka going playoff mode but doesn’t look like Luka will get healthy enough to beat the Jazz but we’ll see.

I think he would be a good offensive assistant coach in Phoenix or GS

Brooklyn needs someone more creative, because game 1 was ISO Kyrie or iISO KD

I don't think a Luka-less Mavs will win a game in Utah. If he doesn't play G3 and G4 the Mavs will be coming back to Dallas down 3-1, even if Luka comes back that's a tough ask to win 3 in a row against a pretty good team.

With a heathy Luka the Mavs would have taken this series in 5, maybe 6 max imo.

Yeap. With no Luka, Utah wins game 3 and 4. I also dont see Luka even being 100% for game 5. You can see at the shootarounds hes not moving that well. So idk if its even smart playing him while he is like 60%. I know he wants to play, but risking another injury is stupid.... anyway im sure he ll wanna play game 4 if they lose game 3 and then we will see what he can even do.

KD also a diva but he strikes me as one who would try to cooperate with Nash. At least to an extent.

Iggy has an obvious clear path for a dunk.

whats the mavs fans opinion of giving Brunson a max? I'd still rather have him go, and invest into a solid big or anoter shooter that can create his own shot, cause both he and Luka need the ball, just as Dinwiddie. So idk if id feel confident going into a championship push with Luka, Brunson and Dinwiddie as my top 3 guys. Also lol at Dwight Powell. tbh Luka messed up the flow a bit. Jalen was doing great because he attacked the bad defenders. Luka is too focused on creating a reaction from the paint man, instead of just dominating his defender to create a hard reaction from Utah. if he just focuses on scoring on his man and passing out of hard doubles, Mavs will be fine.

Feel good that the non jokic nuggets actually played like actual nba players for once. The warriors are just tough to beat especially when green can get away with so much on defence. I still think the Celtics can match up with the warriors very well and wanted to see a how a Thompson green tag team can do to slow down Tatum. Tatum is playing like the best player in the league right now against the nets, but a more disciplined team like the warriors or Miami may be able to slow him down which at that point brown and smart would have to step up.
